ok! soo a private server (not open "yet") is currently considering adding a Top-Up system where you pay for game time. though i know this is very far from Donation because basically what they are doing is asking for "Subscription" just would like to hear everyones opinion about his case :D

the Admin of the said that he will contact Gravity if the server ever flourish and if financial state of the server increases

Duckshooter

I usually prefer MMOs with monthly payment. You (usually) dont have OP donation items and the people who play really want to play. Sad thing is that I dont think a private server with be able to accomplish this right now. RO playerbase became too small, to spread out and too picky with server-features

Neffletics

That's bullsh**. If they ever contact GRAVITY, I bet they'll be sued for copyright infringement.

They've been aiming so high lol.

RO is way too competitive for a server with subscription to work. It aims for 30 players at most, no more.

Zinnia, people in the Philippines were actually believing that they're the "official" server. God... these... people... needs to maximize their internet access and do their own research.

Also, when you try to correct them, they'll see you as a hater or "bitter." So forget about "being concerned" because they'll always get the wrong idea.

yeah neffletics is correct, i've warned the person claiming to be the "Admin" and told him that his creating a "private server" and not an "official server" why implement a top-up system? i also hinted that by doing so he and his staff will be put into legal action once Gravity finds out what they are planning to do.  They think that they could be an official server by contacting Gravity and making puppy faces  /omg

the admin is just sooo stuborn and has lots of pride in him  /...

Even if GRAVITY grants their request (just imagine) they would have to convert their database to be compatible with Aegis. And running Aegis will cost them fortune unlike Athena that doesn't require giant dedicated servers. Also, they'll have to pay yearly for the license (since it's a franchise). A franchise includes the license for the game and their partner client-side protection, nProtect GameGuard, and combined both will reach 10M+ PHP.

These guys are dreaming too much.

Exactly!  /heh i can't grasp where he got the idea that he could turn his private server into an official server with only 800+ currently registered heck the server isn't even open yet  /heh he hasn't replied to my comments after i told him that i was just stating facts on the things he claims he and his staff could do

800+ registered users doesn't guarantee 800 players on the first day. When we started SolaceRO, we had 3,500+ accounts registered but only 800-900+ players joined the first day and population slowly decline afterwards (we banned RMT and toxic players is one of the factor). Anyway, you should not waste time convincing them because they will believe what they want to believe. Even if you're telling the truth if they're blinded by their own ambition, they'll just keep insisting that they're right and you're wrong.

And to their followers, they're learning the lesson the hard way. I mean, it's good that they do not believe what other people are saying easily but they should at least notice that the admins are bullsh**ing them.

Well, I'm pretty much alone with this (in the west), but I actually like the concept to pay for playtime in MMORPGs. If I have time to play anything at all, I'm a casual gamer who maybe plays 2-4 hours on the weekend and not more. So P2P MMORPGs don't work out very well for me, because I end up paying $15 and only end up playing a few hours. It always doesn't seem to be worth it for me and it's also unfair because other play 100 times more and pay the same.
If it an MMORPG was all like "$1 per 10 hours playtime", I'd actually think it's a good offer.

In RO... I always wished for the subscription model to return though. I really really HATE multiclienting and how everybody just plays alone these days with his 5 slave accounts. After renewal and Anubis, removing the subscription system was probably the update that ruined partying the most. In P2P I basically just had to log in with my priest and within 1-2 minutes I alread had a party going. These days I need more time finding a party than I actually play with party.
You can make a "no multiclienting" rule, but it's hard to enforce. If it was just "feel free to multi-client but pay extra money per account" that would be easier to manage.

But yeah a subscription system for a private server is fairly illegal. You can't disguise that as "donations" anymore. The bigger problem, however, is probably that you won't get any players.

The best ways  to discourage players from multiclienting are (based on my experience):

1. Get some client-side protection.
2. Remove exp sharing for idle party member.
3. Hex your client and remove shift+right click auto-follow.

I did this on my server and it actually worked (although some persistent players are still doing micromanagement with 2 laptops just to party with himself)
My players thanked me afterwards because they met more people in my server than in official. Because interaction between players are normal in our server.

As for the server with top-up cards, they have players but their dream to be the official server pisses me off and I feel ashamed to be in the same country. Subscription is good but their goal is dumb. Idk where they got the idea of contacting GRAVITY, be official server, and all those crap.

yup i am ashamed as well  /heh i really don't know where he got that idea  /hmm he thinks that he could talk his way to gravity and ask them for an Official license  /heh the ideas his coming up with are outlandish  /heh but i can't stop him from dreaming big  /heh i like how he wants the server to be like the old days but the things that he wants to implement and the things he wants to do are just out of the picture. 0 out of 100% chance that i would happen

though i like the idea of having a Subscription because servers were really maintained back then you could see the quality of work they do. But because of F2P s*** things were implemented /sigh

AnimaRagnarokOnline

Lmao, I think I saw this on facebook once, they were preparing "Load Cards" in advance I presume? They had designs and etc. Lol, good luck on implementing it.

Gravity's gonna be up their donkey the moment they do.

I remember this one a decade  ago in the Phils. Level up! Official Phi.l Ragnarok which has 3 servers which used a subscription model.

They used to have 3 servers with a population of a whopping 20k on average, one server can get up to more than 60-70k on a single day
when ragnarok was popular. I used to play that in 56k connection with lag issues, spend over 10k php  in subscription fees. /sob

The decline came when other online games crop up, when private servers became popular. Then they used php to by ingame items and the economy went downhill.

Oh, Level Up made billions of pesos for this game.
