New Player Events?

well i'm curious as what u guys think of the kind of events where the GM's try to bring in new players by introducing item give aways for new players that join the server, but i mean like.... not anything over powered just some lil junk so they can start off on the server with a lil bit of an edge =P

Example: Here

(Your pool doesn't make much sense)

It's lame.

LoL i will have to second his statement.
Anyway, im in favor of that kind of stuff to help newcomers, since hardly people help the newbies.
But that topic you linked is plain stupid, the items they are handing out are mid-game gears, not something to help starting players.

Poll*

And yeah, new player events...I'm not too much for it. If new players are given something once, they'll just keep relying on getting stuff from other people. The only things they can maybe win should be a couple of healing items maybe, but not much more.

Right. Poll. What the hell was I thinking.

Anyway, there are two ways of doing it. I guess I wouldn't mind giving everyone a slight boost at the beginning(Though it's debatable since the beginning is the easiest part). The problem is when server's been running for some time and suddenly the GMs decide to bring in new people and introduce help like this.

Oh I have to point out one thing. "an anonymous source will be providing free gifts"
Seems to me it's not a GM, it's one player or guild who is handing out the gifts.

Yeah lol, There isn't any uber stuff there and if you have been playing in server a year now, you might have a lot of stuff to spare.

And another point. Most likely all of those items aren't going to be given out. Since I doubt not that many players reply in topic.

Poll? What poll? oh that.. Well I'm enjoying event. I was looking for a new server to start playing again and this server gave me a nice exp boost to make some basic characters faster than usually.

I was little worried about paradisero would be over customized, but now that I started play there it really isn't that custom at all.

Excellent events, thank you paradisero. I'm going to enjoy my stay in this server.

I think it's a nice initiative if it's a player providing the items. If it would be GM then older players would whine that it's unfair.

The only incentive should be the game itself. If a person needs to be bribed I'm not sure you would even want them.

I say that with full knowledge that pretty much all the servers have higher level characters who will do it anyway and I am always happy (and frankly it works and I feel indebted) to get the stuff. So really on top of it just being bad form for a GM to do it probably isn't even needed.

Seems a little desperate, but pretty good. But new players won't have to work for equips. >_>;
