Which ones are they?

And well, do you think that well-populated servers are good? Is the current population something you always check before starting on a new server? Is it possible to have a really good server with a low population?

Sarin

Well...

I don't like high population myself. Whenever players online go over like 200, it is getting crowded for my taste. It's a matter of personal preference...I personally prefer, when hunting for something, that there is as little people around (outside party) as possible. And I don't like too crowded WoE...when there are bragi'd AoEs and stuff flying all over the place, so you gotta rely on high overupped stuff and full defensive gear to survive, it's not the kind I like....I prefer to keep it personal.

And yea, it is possible to have a good, low population servers. I'm playing on such.

Metafalica

150-200 is perfect, although I can live just fine on a server with 50 people, if it has something to offer. I'm also fine sticking with new servers with no members, as long as I see some potential in future players joining and making the community better. =)

fluidin

as much as possible. i ****ing miss the days on ero when there were 400 people in one castle. the fun part isn't the fighting, it's being part of the woe council, leading your own parties, strategizing, and generally knowing that you are a main factor in the flow of thousands of warring players.

when i want to go up close and personal i join pvp.

yes, it is possible to have a really good server with low pop. depends on how low tho. i would say at least 40-60 actives are needed.

XileRo is the only HR I know that has a reasonable PvP system. I did watch the RWC like you said, all I see is people spamming the room like every other gang fight there is in RO.

Maisumi

I think the most populated servers right now are EssenceRO, EternityRO, RebirthRO, and XileRO (not too sure about XileRO).

Not all well populated servers are good. You can see such in many servers with populations of 200-400. I am perfectly happy with a server of around 200-600 players. I can go a tad less, probably 100, if the server has really interesting features that I don't see in any other server.

Radprofile

Populated servers sometimes are the hard ones to play, the people who kill you in pvp it's the same that kill you at woe and the same people that owns most part of the castles and the same people who kill most part of the Mvps lol! that's why I think that a server with 100-150 players is just fine.

Actually I'm playing on a server with very low population for the same reason : "potencial". I have a couple of friends there BUT right now they don't connect so much because the University stuff.
The population Issue is really a problem on "new" servers, because people who search for server says: "I want a server with a average population" But if the server is "new" sometimes there is no population at all, so when players notice that just 1-5 are connected ... they leaves, even without give the server a try.

How can you materialize 20 or 30 people at a new server if everyones argues about "there is nobody online"?

Personally , I like to start first at new servers ( even if they are empty of players ) because I can hunt for MVPs and equip without problems xD

These are the good players, lol. If anything, one should learn to emulate them.

A guild who is active in all 3 areas of PVP/WOE/MVP will be either be the dominant guild of the server or at least (in the case of officials where there are large numbers of good players), a competitive guild.

Maybe, but sometimes they are just the most old in that server, and because they have more equipment or resources so they can easily beat you. Is not impossible try to emulate them , but if you enter at a server with 500 or more people , the chances of obtain drops from MVPs are rare, the veterans of the server have control on them, and they can kill them more easily ( they have a guild , better equipment , more friends with same resources as them ). So this means that you need REALLY extra effort to : 1) make your own guild with some people to try to emulate them, 2) try to gain respect from them and enter their guild xD

Slug

I can live with a 200+ it's annoying but if you were they're long enough you really don't want to leave.

Btw. What was iRO's max of people online like 2-3 Years ago. (When I was playing)
I mean I liked how that was. it was packed but everyone was Around like you know travelling and stuff not warping so you meet alot of nice people lol. I like that in a populated server not @warp @warp @warp.. Random guy: "Hai!" Warper: "....Fgt." @warp @warp @warp.

SilverStream~

The entire game world is so big, that 100~300 wouldn't be enough to fill it up.

Having 2000~3000+ active players fills a server so that almost wherever you go, there are people there, which is how it's supposed to be.
They didn't make the game so 10 of the 15 towns would stay completely empty, and the rest were filled with 10 players each, or less.

this. nowadays servers are so sparsely populated the only places you'll find more than one person on at the same time are pront, leveling/leeching areas like thor, pvp, and woe castles.

jro's 40 or 50k players across 20 (iirc) different servers is pretty damned nice tho.

They are also filled to the brim, and I love that.

iRo Valkyrie has atm the highest population of players of all the three servers, check the image link for the player database.
Iris currently has.. almost none playing.  It's more like that talonro server.  Very few people, they all are elitist players with masses of god items, and not many play at all.  Most have moved their accounts and characters to one of the two other servers.

Valkyrie has 58k accounts(registered by the ropd bot so maybe more), we expect that 10k of those, are bot accounts.(yes, 10k o.O), because it's just.. so many.  I saw over 100 bots in alligators one day.  The players that are on are many, so many you can't sit down and count.  But if we break it down, it doesn't have more than around 8k active single accounts.  Seeing this is because almost all, have multiple accounts because it's free to register and make new accounts, you just need a new email and it's done.

Chaos is in the middle range with not too few and not too many players.  As loki, everyone has god items and whatnot.  Low populated, not too many are on, and it's more or less like a huge private server, except it's an official so no pserver custom crap.

Loki is the premium server you would want to play on, if you transferred from valkyrie, but you wouldn't do that either, because like the other premiums(Iris, Chaos and Loki), it's filled with god items, powerful gear, elitists and more.  However there are many fun people and it's a great server to play on.

Still with all the players on Valkyrie, I think it needs more people.  It's almost at what I would love to see, a server filled to the brim with people(not bots), and I mean, there are a lot.  There's also the limitations of no Deviling cards, gtb or creamy so it's really something.

Being populated so that the world is filled up is great.  Often you see people claiming areas or houses ingame as their base, because there is just so much space available.
If the original developers were still working on it, we'd have play bought houses, proper pvp(not the hax thats done now), and it would be a magnificent sight.  Sadly it's not like that, and the game is growing old.. Renewal will most likely fix that.

Check out the imagelink for the player database.  That's a lot of accounts on the valkyrie server.

Yes... all the big populated servers I've played have been horrible

Though if I look at it, theres always a few groups of stupid people on any server I play so a server with 20 times the population would probably have way more then 20 times the stupid people(Because anyone else is going to be driven away..)

Thats because on most superpopulated servers there are a ton of people pointing errors.

My bad, in my dimension, errors doesn`t fix themselves out of nothing.

Can try JokerRO- nice and balance lv 255 and 100% easy lvling....other then that all are balance and GM are friendly...more and more player now so try

for me when choosing a server, i really dont care for the population that much well at least not yet..i look more for the game play and rates. Then when im all settled, the urge for the need of more players come..but hey, they will increase eventually right? :)

crysiscore3

One important difference in numbers is between sites that are lax on botting, and those that either discourage it strongly or really do prevent it altogether.
Most servers have a lot of them running around.

When they do, I like 250 or so people online. On servers mostly lacking bots, I like closer to 100-150 online.
It makes WoE big enough to have medium sized parties.
On smaller servers(50bot 30 actual) you usually have two uber guilds duking it out over one castle. When you expand the server size to about triple that size, the fights get smaller, because there are numerous guilds fighting for a lot of different castles(assuming the GMs open enough up, but close enough as well).

I really don't care for 500 people online though. Cities often lag a lot, and it feels too crowded.
Thinking of making your own RO PServer?
Read this first.

lol yeah. i've been on servers like that. What's worse..they even gloat on having a lot of players. well in fact, bots take over half of the population.

kochiro

230 Peak today :) no bots :p

Judgement

I preffer joining servers with huge population so that it gives me motivation to work on stuff.  Especially when it's a low rate.

AnthemRO is a low rate with it's population going from around 350 to 500 throughout the day, and no bots. :P  As for duel cliented vendors it reaches to maybe around 40-80? :x

The discussion about the officials makes me not want to join those servers much. Lol.
Super Smash Brothers 64!

ZellDincht1226

I don't mind where I start playing, mostly because of the fact that over the years I've worked so hard for MvP cards and such on such low drop rates (below .50%), and after I obtain all of this, the server likes to just die.

So basically, I'm not gonna work hard for crap anymore, whether it be MvPing all to myself, or having to fight for spawn times like I used to.

Bennuo

I prefer servers under 1000 people. Otherwise, WoE is just too much.

Shinae

I prefer 100-400 online. When it gets over 400 it's getting too crowded for my taste. I enjoy hunting in peace and farming some MvPs etc. I can play server with other population too, but it requires it to be a great server otherwise. One of my old time classics had only 10-90 online and I played there for years.

Also I probably leave server soon after start if I notice it's poorly GMed. Spam and/or bots running around freely etc.

I always check how many there is online when I choose a new server. Sucks downloading new client and noticing after that server has 0 online.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Prophet

I prefer 200-500 players on, including Dual Clienting. Over that lags my computer too much.

vendors :
Merchy class Vending skill
Pubs

PVP Peak Hours
there are about
60-70 PVP players at Morocc PVP map (not counting other PVP maps)
PVP off Peak Hours
30-40 PVP players at Morocc PVP map (not counting other PVP maps)
PVP off off off Peak Hours
15-25 PVP players at Morocc PVP map (not counting other PVP maps)

well bots and dual clients are available
But Admin and Sgt. Rave are always hunting BOT Harvesters.
Banning their bot accounts together with their main accounts.

1k+ population isnt entirely that bad
the PVP community in MyRO almost never falls to 0
theres always someone to compete with in PVP or DUELs
MyRO Population is spread in different Towns or Savepoints
So its not that crowded in the Main town of Prontera or other towns
You can go Save Point Hopping to meet other people.
But at Prontera Vend Spot it could get real crowded.

MyRO Doesnt have auto trade nor the auction feature nor the money / item sending feature
meaning most pubs are Real Players waiting or AFK/BRB/DND
Only the Vends are possible to be BOT vends.
