Looking for Ideas for a New server

Hi, I am considering creating a new private server in the next week days/weeks, depending on the amount of time I got. But I don't want it to fail or at least I want to enjoy my time, and make everyone who tries my server enjoy it.
I have a few ideas on my mind, but first and foremost i'd want your opinion because it matters.

The only thing I am sure about is I want to make this server pre-renewal, so only Trans jobs. The rest I don't really mind and will go for what the public agrees on being the best/most effective and popular.

1) Max level/ Max Job level.
2) Exp Rate
3) Drop rate (Normal Cards, Mini boss, MVP cards)
4) Easy access to Zeny? (Gold Room?)
5)Costumization?
        - Extensive? Lots of costums, new stuff, new effects of cards, new gears, new weapons.
        - Medium? Balancing it out.
        - None? Normal RO
6)Main map? (New one? or any in specific?)
7)Events?
        - High? Easy way to gain cool stuff.
        - Medium? Work a certain amount to get cool stuff.
        - Low? Work very hard to gain cool stuff)
8 ) Unfro ? (I'd prefer unfro, but again YOU guys decide)
9) Max Aspd?
10) Main currency? More than 1 currency? (Such as Zenny, coins, or anything like that)
11) Max Health?
12) Max stats?
13) Quests in order to create equips/ get new cards
        - Hard? Work a lot to get the good equips but feel extremely satisfied and proud. Might be the only one with the specific gear for a while ;)
        - Medium? Balance out work
         - Low? Easy quests, still takes time but you for sure wont be the only one with the gear.
14) PVP shop? (Yes or No, simple as that)
15) Guild package? (Yes or No)

For now that's all i could think about, if you guys have any ideas/advice go ahead!

I hate to sound negative, but why are you making the server? You don't seem to care about anything other than it being pre-renewal, so you come across as not being passionate about making a server. You'd honestly be happy with a high rate server of 500x rates just like you'd be happy with a low rate server of 3x rates? You must have some sort of idea or passion about the server you'd like to run. If you don't care what the core aspects of the server are like rates, level of customization, max level ,etc. then what is your reason for making the server? Just food for thought. You should really only be making a server if it's something you're passionate about because it takes up a lot of time if done right and you'll need reason to keep it online for more than a month.

Now, if you're trying to get an idea of what kind of server the community is looking for, you're going to have a hard time. There's going to be answers ranging from don't make one, to low rate official, to highly customized high rate. A better idea might be to look through the "server seeking" section of the forums to see what a lot of people are looking for because that might be an area that's lacking in the private server community.

For me personally, I prefer lower rates and official settings (max aspd, level, etc). I could go either way on the level of customs depending on how well their done. The eAmod Battlegrounds is custom compared to officials, but I think it's well-made and wouldn't mind something like that. An item collecting quest that gives you wings is something I would dislike.

Honestly though, you should just make a server that you're passionate about making. Pick rates and settings you like and go from there. You'll have a much better time as an admin rather than trying to cater to everyone's demands because everyone wants such vastly different things. With the settings and rates somewhat set in stone, you're able to get more feedback from the community that will actually be playing there. You wouldn't want a bunch of low rate players telling you not to have customs on your high rate server where customs are generally more accepted.

That's exactly what i am going for. I want to know what the community likes, of course i have preference as I have been a player for the longest time! But thanks for your input i'll keep it in mind, if nothing works as I planned. I am passionate about it, and i really do not think its a question of passion but rather a question of not wanting it to fail. I've seen hundreds of servers fall after 1month. Thats really not what I am aiming for. But anyways you make some valid points so I might review my post. Thanks again !

A lot of players are looking for a good mid-rate trans server right now. I could give you a couple of ideas, or a whole identity for a server if you like. My ideas are based on research and majority of people will like it. You can ask me for more details.

Max Level/ Job Level: 99/70

Exp Rate:  ( The EXP rate must be somewhere between 50x-100x for a mid-rate server. But I've seen a lot of server with higher rates that people most likely to solo level or hunt. If you did you for much lower rates like. 50x, players will be forced to play with other players just so they can level up. It's up to you to find a good balance between a high enough exp rate for players, and Low enough Xp rate for players to feel the thrill, and grind. )

Drop Rate: Should be x20 for normal items. and for equipment x30-50. :) You still need a good enough drop rate for players to grind, and at the same time, the thrill of finding such item. This is also for economy purposes. If items are that easy to get. Economy = Fail

Main Map: It really depends on what is the theme of your server. if your theme for a server is like nature and stuff, then your main town should be designed after your theme.

Events: I suggest you don't go crazy for the events. There should be a number of Hourly events but not so many because player will not appreciate all the time if your server has all of the events every hour. Rewards should be minimal.

Max Aspd: 190 or 191.  /ok

Main Currency: Should be zeny, or a RO coin (e.g. Poring coin, or whatever)  so that they can be traded for certain game items and can be traded by players for zeny. 2 medium of exchange is enough for a server. 3 or more medium of exchange = whack economy.  /wah

PVP Shop: Hell no, Personally, i've seen a lot of server with this kind of feature. aaand players will abuse this.  /...

Guild Package: Yes, you need a good enough guild package to attract guilds and at the same time, it should be balanced enough that the guild pack wouldn't ruin your economy, it is not biased guild package, and it is fair.  /ok

and Last but not the least.

Your server should have a Great Web Design, (Great web design attracts a lot of players)

Good Ragnarok Gameguard for bots, nodelay, rpe,wpe hacks.

I'm sorry to say, but tons of servers out there with "Great Web Design" only last for a few months or so. Most of the themes are recycled or pretty much just the same theme, just that some of the images are removed or replaced with another and set another color for the overall theme.

No, it is not required to have a great web design to have a great server.


I'd suggest a low rate server with unique features to differentiate yourself from what is out there already, but sadly, most RO players don't take custom stuff kindly and pretty much shun it because they are not used to it. Sucks, but you have to be bold and be stead-fast on your decisions and how 'you" want your server to shape up.

Friendly advice, listen to advice, but always mix it up with your own plan for the server and see if it fits perfectly, if not, do not neglect the advice, rather take it and meld it into your own plan.

A good, original web design doesn't by default make a server any good.
There are benefits to taking the time to put together a functional, professional-looking site. And consequences if you don't.

Many potential players dismiss a sever if their site is non-functional, filled with spelling and grammatical errors, lacks information, is plain ugly, etc.
If server owners can't be bothered with the website, why assume they bothered with the server itself?

Your site is a great way to make a good impression to potential players, and to showoff how great your server is.
Players usually need to use the site to donate, submit support tickets, and use the forums, so it's important for it to function correctly.

A great idea would be to setup 100 floors of tower dungeon from sword art online.
To go to higher floors, you would need to defeat the boss of the previous floor.

Another great idea would be to implement Kirito and Asuna NPC.
Whether they be quest npcs or item seller npcs is up to you.

An even better idea would be to make Kirito and Asuna Mercenary,
so players can use these mercenaries to help them level up easily.

But the most important idea is your website name should be something like sword art online ragnarok
so many anime fans would join your server.

Why am i giving you all these ideas for free?
Because i can imagine the costs to setup such a server, LOL.

Why are people making/looking for ro servers with the same, repeating bull c**p?
It's always pre-renewal with trans classes most of the time. Most of the servers out there are like this if you haven't noticed.

It's really sad to see the lack of passion nowadays when it comes to creating ro servers.
And it really sucks seeing so many horrible looking servers with the same features, some downloaded scripts and the same websites repeatedly.

Amen. It makes me wonder why they make them at all. Likely just to grab a few donations before they close.

I don't think the website itself can make or break a server, but as mentioned, a site that's just a copy-paste RO template or numerous grammatical errors can be a turn-off. Look at EternityRO, LLRO, LegacyRO, etc. Those servers all had super high player counts with the simplest of websites. You don't have to have an amazing web developer or site. I think all it takes is originality and a server worth playing. Because originality shows people that you actually care about whatever it is that you're doing. That goes for the website, features, etc.
