Author Topic: Killing for Zeny&Exp & GVG Town Capturing. Has it been done? Should I try?  (Read 2010 times)

Well as the title says, I was wondering if any server has the feature of letting you "grind" on people as opposed to monsters.

In addition, I've seen lots of faction based servers that allow factions to capture towns, but what about town capturing for guilds instead of factions?

Lastly, if the answer to any of the above 2 questions is no, do you think it would interest a lot of players for me to try creating this myself?

Ultimately, I'm looking to play on (or if one doesn't exist, MAKE) a server that lets me kill people to level up, has a heavy pvp focus, and is heavily guild based.

I am already doing a similar idea, join my team.

“The school of the undefeated East!”
“The winds of the king!”
“Look! The East is burning red!”

Well, if you wanna do something like this, be ready for a LOT of drama.

I've thought of this idea before, but what really worries me is not drama, but how would you prevent leeching here?

Sure, kill people around your level to grind, kill those even higher level to gain more exp. But... unlike pvm, here your "opponent" could be just a friend (or bored) and will just sit there waiting for you to kill him for easy exp. Worse, what if somebody just sets up a "dummy", high level character which everyone is welcomed to leech from by killing it?

Earning exp when killing another player is pretty easy (nay, even trivial) to add, but how do make sure the exp is justified and the character actually earned it? (rather than, say, two characters who just ctrl+click each other all the way to L99?)

So ultimately, if safeguards can be put into place to prevent people from abusing killing for exp/zeny, then it can be expected to be successful and interesting?

Something like you get some exp taken away or drop something when you got killed?

I think such project need a lot of people to actually stay online at all time to be fun.  That part could be hard to execute if you exclude gaining exp from monster out of the game.  You can't start as a novice and start killing other novices to level up hmmm how starters survive...

This would be easy to solve. PVM must still exist, but if you really want people to level up from PVP, you must make the rates quite differently (eg: levelling from PVM should take ~5x times longer than levelling from PVP). Additionally, I would allow people to PVP "anywhere" with level restrictions (eg: you cannot attack someone >5 levels below you unless they attack you first).

Having people "drop something" when killed may be too risky. I am not sure you could get any viable population if you'd only appeal to the kind of people who played Diablo with perma-death on (not as drastic, but close). I think the best way is to drop generic stuff that sells for money, and then get your gears from traditional stores.

But as before, you'd have to watch out for people farming from each another...

Well if it's possible make it so you can't kill or at least gain exp and zenny from the same person in a row, and you have to kill like 5 more people before you can get zenny and or exp from that character? This could potentially also be a safeguard against harassment and drama.

Would the entire game be a PVP zone or would there be "safe zones"?

Offline Sarin

Disabling multiclienting and no tolerance to those who break the rules would be a very good idea in this setup.

Offline saiyushu

Looks like this idea is pretty popular    xD

@Cuddle FIsh & Sarin
Definitely using you 2's advice

@Yukiiko
The entire game except for hometown (prontera I guess) and Event Maps would be a PVP zone

Though there's still definitely an issue of how to get the novices leveled.

Well if you were to consider Skotlex's idea you could give each new character a char bound BM so novices can level up on monsters and later on join PvP.

Offline saiyushu

@xyuki
Sorry, what does BM stand for again?

Offline MeowyMeow

Battlemode.
