well for me yes... after establishing your char through hard work, the donator still wins the game... so i regret spendin my time on those servers...

It depends on the server, many servers don't have donation items that unbalance the gameplay by giving a definite advantage to the donators over the non-donators.
By the way, why did you have an urge to go and reply to like twenty threads? Specially ones that are months old... isn't there a rule against bumping old threads?

There are servers with no donation rewards, or ones that don't make non-donators a disadvantage.

Depends on the donation items. As long as I can get my hands on the same items ingame, without too much work, I don't mind. Same goes for vanity gears. But servers you can donate to get MVP cards and such on are no-no's for me.

donator or not, you are all loosers if you never have fun playing the game. but to some its an ego trip. they have to be a somebody somewhere even if its just an online game. oh well...

the real winner on a donation server is the server owner. zenny (or anything  ingame) cant be used irl, but real money does.

I somewhat agree with devow.  There's no real "winning" in an MMORPG, particularly if you don't participate in any PVP (like WoE).

The difference is that in an MMORPG there is no definite set goal, unlike traditional games where there's a clear plot/story and an ending, MMORPGs are kinda open-ended, so it is up to you what you do at the end.
Usually players end up splitting between two ideologies: Those who just play to have fun, and those who make it their goal to be better than everyone else (because it seems eventually there's really not much else to do, unless, perhaps, if you just try to become the richest person in the universe). The ones that play to have fun you never heard of, since they don't reach max levels nor are involved in all of the game drama...
I particularly don't care for "being the best", I just play to have fun. But I need more time to play as of late :< Oh and I would not 'donate' to a server with donation items, ever. I'd only donate (once I have sustainable income so I can actually take the luxury of donating) to a server where the donations are actually spent ONLY in hosting the server. I am not even sure I'd want to pay the "GMs" in charge of improving the server or making events, since that is stepping dangerously close to the greedy ground where the owners just want money for themselves.

The real reason it is is because of previous servers scamming money via donations.
Or other servers with way overpowered players that become uber via donations...
aye Donations can be a double edged sword, they help maintain a good host... however they can unbalance a server
if you don't have the right kind..
