Yes, I realize this is my first post, but I am infuriated and wish to bring this to the RO private server community's attention.  "Decker Kai," the owner of "InvokeRO," which is apparently very new, has accessed personal information from at LEAST EuphRO's community.  He acquired a list of email addresses used to sign up for EuphRO accounts and solicited them with advertisements for his own server.  The email contains no text, but an unnamed html attachment.  A quick Google search turns up that it is apparently a real server in the works, but this is an incredibly maddening and shady way of advertising.  How do I know this?  I signed up for an account with a student email address which absolutely no one except school officials, professors, etc, know about, and yet here I suddenly get the first ever solicitation.  I have never used the account to sign up for anything else.  Several other different email accounts I used to sign up also received the invitation, though they were found in the spam folder.  Several other players whom I am good friends with also received the message, as well as other players when a thread about the situation was posted on Euph's forums.
My colleague registered on Invoke's forums and made a thread about the situation.  The forums were immediately protected, the thread was deleted, and my friend was IP banned.  He received a PM from the owner clearly suggesting that the accusations are true:

"If you want something talk to me trough PM's if not i'l ask you to leave.
Our opinions about how to advertise are not the same it seems and i don't disagree with you but that's a choice we made here."

I regret that I do not have an actual screenshot of the PM or the thread because it was deleted remarkably quickly.  I'm not one to stir trouble or throw accusations around, but I am extremely pissed someone has the audacity to pull a stunt like this to try to gain players and to solicit personal accounts.  Yes I realize no information is perfectly anonymous on the internet and I can just as well choose to ignore the email, but I refuse to let someone who just started a server try to gain support with s*** tactics like stealing information from another server.  This also poses another question, have any of you players from other highly populated servers been solicited with this message?  I realize not much can be done about this, but I frown upon this practice and discourage anyone from joining that server.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.

EDIT: Also, I apologize if I posted this is the inappropriate forums.

I put some work on that banner :)

And to answer Yeshaih : I agree that the advertising tactic is cheap. but you should remember that Euph RO, Anima RO , Xile RO, Project Ro they all did it at one point.

Also i didn't ban him for that topic.
i Banned him when he started shouting nonsense and talking with words such as f*** and f*** and f*** and f*** on our forums and trough PM's to me.

Yeshaih

That does not justify what you did whatsoever.  You accessed a database you had absolutely no right to in order to solicit people.  I demand you immediately cease this practice; I should not see one of your emails in any of my inboxes OR spam folders ever again.

I don't recall any server EVER doing this.
Just InvokeRO.
You tried to defend your spamming, now you want to say other servers have done it, regardless if they have done it, it is wrong.
Btw, your site has been suspended.
Edit:
http://www.invokero.com is suspended, http://www.invokero.net is not

Ratch

Zone, you do know how, it is euphro's own fault for giving them information, to be honest, it wouldn't be sent if it weren't for people at euphro anyway.

Zone

Regardless, he is the one emailing people spamming their inboxes.

Kaid

How funny, an EuphRO fanatic & an AnthemRO one.
I will let you both imagine how i got the mails but that's not really the point is it?
Also Yeshaih : If i did hack your sql server then maybe i'd have closed euph ro? who knows xD

Go read this:
Servers that Email Players
. The general consensus is they are wasting their time, no one worth their salt should pay attention to any unsolicited email.

(RMS reviews)

Kaid

Does a solicited mail exist?

NikitaDarkstar

Actually Kaid, how you obtained hte information about me and several other pepole would be very iteresting to know. (And no I'm not an "euphRO fanatic" or what have you.)
But even if it would be interesting to know how you got the information, it dosn't matter as much as what you're using it for.

But I guess you don't mind giving your own server a bad reputation, cause thats really the only thing you get out of e-mail advertising.

PS: Zone, there are a few servers who did this, UnityRO and Eden I think it was (the servers created after euphRO's wipe) has done it, aswell as a few others that I didn't bother trying to remember, but this really is the worst example of e-mail advertising I've ever seen, the others atleast put some effort into their email.

It's the opposite and since you don't know what my e-mail looks like you shouldn't say such a thing for your statement is absolutely biased.

I am not a EuphRO fanatic; I disagree with many staff and server decisions, but I am a EuphRO player (and surely you obtained information from not only EuphRO) and I do not consent to this.  It is interesting that while you have clearly revealed you used iniquitous methods on this thread, you banned players on your forums and deleted the posts to cover it up.  Undoubtedly whistles and sirens blared when someone brought this to your attention.
Your banner design is completely irrelevant in the matter.
Obviously you have no intention of discussing how you obtained the information, which is equally irrelevant because it is already understood that it was accessed in an disreputable manner and therefore that does not refute the issue.  Interesting, you bring up SQL hacking, why might that be? Sir, are you trying to threaten our security (again)?

Your justifications are unambiguously trounced and moot. I do not expect to ever receive an email from you, your server, or anyone affiliated with your server or any other server for that matter again.

Edit: I did not add the description for this thread, the mods did.  I am more concerned about the privacy infringement and illegal access of information from another server in order to solicit email advertisements.
Regretfully my screenshots were resized and unreadable, but you do not really need screenshots to glean from in order to distinguish the malpractice taking place here.  If need be I will gladly crop them with some spare time later.
