Most of the issues that players report usually involve mere database number tweaks or very simple script adjustments, which can be dealt with and applied in a couple of minutes.

Some "very" simple script adjustments are not so "very" simple at all. Though this is also the dev's fault for not making sure the script works perfectly fine.

Which is why it is imperative to launch a beta test first before release a server, however, the problem is how to get beta players to test out the server lmao.

OT:

IMO, toxic players will always be there, drama, pvp, woe, crying, sucking it up to GMs, blames etc, they're all gonna be there. All you have to do is deal with it. So it is better to make sure that everyone knows that you are lenient to these kind of things, but if it is already too much, then you will have to punish them. As one have stated above, you should always draw a clear and definite line.

No, terpsichore is right. Most things I see people report are a joke to fix, you just have to, you know, actually know what you're doing. I laughed pretty hard when Zinnia took 2 days to fix the 1024 "problem".

Doing Tripper's job.

Zinnia

Every infra is different. If you're able to do it on debian it doesn't mean you're able to do it on jessie with your servers under docker containers. But welp.

Why disable RMT?

Here's something:

Enable RMT BUT the catch is as follows:

- GMs offer RMT, yes, GMs/Admin will be the one being the middleman, and they will pay you some for a "secure" transaction. Instant profit.
- Any non GM/Admin RMT transaction will not be given support. You provide them with unique tickets or unique IDs per transaction.

LOL, really though, RMT has been a part of RO ever since it was conceived. I don't think it can be stomped one way or another.
Actually, this already exists and it's called credit coins [or whatever you wanna call them]. Players inject money on the server, get <insert server name> coins, use them to buy all they want from the server right away and happens in a lot of servers.

PS - I know people who've neighbours that traded MVP cars at the official Brazilian server for really good stuff like new cars, tvs, playstations and so on. RMT is a cancer hard to deal with unless you try to make it a part of your server to an extent.

Triper, if you're a server admin. How would you deal with these? (I am wondering, really)

I think the less you talk around me, the better you're going to look. I randomly stumbled across a "Max concurrent connections: 1024" in the source code(or conf files, can't remember) the other day, and that's when I knew. It took you two days to change one number and type make clean && make.

There really is no shame in admitting you had no clue, because I wouldn't know about it if not by pure chance browsing the server files as well. But it's when you try to pretend you're something you're not and lie that you're basically forcing my hand into revealing you for the scum and fool that you are, and I can guarantee you that using the truth against liars who lie in front of me is my favourite pass-time.

So I'm just saying it for your own good, since I know you're a chronic liar. Stay away from me, and I won't be forced to azblast you.

Blinzer, not trying to defend Zinnia but sometimes even if you edit the conf files it'll still stay as 1024. You'll have to do some tweaking, especially for Linux-based OS.

Oh, I am sorry but Solace's my first server and it was closed with proper notice. How did Sarah server ended again? The admin just neglected his role and then 1 day players can no longer connect, right? Man, don't get me started. I have more stories to tell to the people of RMS. Believe me, that server will keep dying because HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF (deal with it).

oh really? how about the first time your server solaceRO closes without proper notice making the former players despise you, leave the game and scatter from other servers? then you decided to revive it from the land of dead servers trying your luck to net and gain some new players again to the extend that you offered freebies as a compensation for the first shutdown incident of your server but sad to say no one took the bait again and learned the lesson not to trust your server as well as your gm skills? how can you explain it then? not good to talk crap with other people while yourself is more of a crap as a gm lewl.

1. If you are to check our Facebook page, you'll see how our team announced the game's closing date. It was after the poll ended. Former players never despised me or the server (where did you even get this info.?)
2. "Leave the game and scatter from other servers" I don't even understand what you're trying to say here. Rephrase your sentence, maybe.
3. "then you decided to revive it from the land of dead servers trying your luck to net and gain some new players again to the extend that you offered freebies as a compensation for the first shutdown incident of your server but sad to say no one took the bait again and learned the lesson not to trust your server as well as your gm skills" The server closed only once fyi. Where are you even getting this story?
4. "not good to talk crap with other people while yourself is more of a crap as a gm lewl." Criticism is different from talk s***. I criticized Sarah's GM based on how he have handled his previous servers and how he lied to his players before. If you are to ask my players in SolaceRO, they know how I've managed SolaceRO during my time.

Kmart, it's not really good that you are coming up with stories that did not even happen. Just like your server's owner, both of you are good at bullsh*tting people and your players are actually believing what you guys were saying. Well, what can I expect from a butthurt player? You just joined this forum to as* kiss Sarah server and bash all the people who are opposing you, right? That's literally being butthurt and also sign of being a loser. Not trying to brag or something but your grammar is as bad as your personality. I am done with you, low life.

(To Triper: I apologize if this response has violated the forum rules)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Your fact is just as easy to solve as everything else I said, so the only thing you did here was ruin my swag(other than risk me making you like a fool too)

lucky for you, i happen to be in a very good mood right now

Understand that you can not please everyone. Players are going to quit for a plethora of reasons. Some are going to try and take others with them. Let them. You're server will survive.

Of course you have the option to go into damage control mode and go overboard with the muting, banning, filtering every word that could even remotely be used inappropriately, disabling the main channels, etc. But instead of a handful of disgruntled players leaving and convincing a few others to follow, you'll be left with a server full of pissed off players, and the irony of realizing that you were the most toxic factor in the equation all along.

When I say toxic, I'm referring to anything that dissatisfies your players to the point of leaving, or is detrimental to your server as a whole. This includes the actions of server staff.

If a player is trash-talking others, but no one is taking it seriously or affected by it, is this toxic to your server?
Is a player toxic when they're trash-talking your server, but no one is listening because they're too busy enjoying your amazing server?

You deal with toxic players by identifying who is actually doing real harm to your server, and addressing them accordingly.
There should be a clear protocol for your players to follow in order to report harassment.
You don't always know the context of your players' interactions, so I'd avoid intervening prior to a report (unless it is clearly harassment).

Speaking of harassment, here's what iRO has to say about KS:

Quote from: http://irowiki.org/wiki/Kill_Steal
Gravity Interactive officially categorizes Kill Stealing under Harassment. It is not uncommon for mistakes to happen, and there is a threshold for determining if a behavior was harassment or KSing. A single incident where someone comes up and takes a whack or two at a person's monster is usually not considered KSing. A person who makes a habit of attacking another person's monsters is KSing. To successfully report an incident of KSing one needs to include multiple screenshots of the offender attacking one's monsters on a few different occasions. One should also try and have before and during screenshots so that the GMs can clearly see that the offender was attacking the monster.
