Well,from a player standard. You are playing a 1x,you don't want to see donation i agree with that. But the cost was too big and we only payed for a sure 6months !
if there had to be donations what would they be?

Back in the days donations were just donations.. no strings attached. People who loved the server would just donate to see it flourish and live on, without expecting anything in return.

Have times changed so much that a server can't get that kind of donating quality people without needing to give them some kind of incentive so it stops being a real donation and becomes instead an economical transaction?

You really should first check how much you can manage 'for free', how big a population you can get, how many loyal players, and so on and so forth... and depending on the quality of your people you'll see just to what extend must you give them something in return to get them to donate just the right amount to remain afloat... (hence, asking for donations too early on will really require bad bad things to be given in exchange...)

PS: This is just my theory, my visualization of reality does not has to hold true.

Skotlex i BOUGHT 3 servers
So i will have 2 Zone maps on 2 very good servers (Dual core xeon crestwood 3.2Ghz,4 Gb ram each) entirely dedicated. So i'm sure i can take on as many RO players are it can get. And if there is a need to, i can just add another server selling my flash websites

the only acceptable donation items on a 1/1/1 server are those premium headgears/items that are not obtainable ingame, like drooping alice, refined elunium, lv10 blessing scrolls, etc.

I would have to agree with Skotlex that a donation should be gift from the individual to the server without any expectations for something in return.  However seeing as how many people have left official RO's because of monthly payments, I would expect the majority of the private server population to be not so charitable. In any case, I like the no stat gears thing, because kRO and jRO has released a lot of headgears that are unattainable through playing the game normally, ie: nekomimi, so perhaps you can release those without stats. Or maybe just give donators a virtual sticker thats says "I donated."

All that aside I noticed that you are currently running 3 servers. I would image the upkeep cost would be huge for those (though two are ethena which runs at a fraction of the cost.)

Well yeah to be sure i won't have to close the server or anything like that instead of "renting" the servers i buy them.
Even if they aren't successful at RO I'm sure they will be better at something else.
And as you said the Aegis new server, will be running on 2 servers <:O and maybe on 3 later if necessary !

I do not donate if there's any kind of reward involved. As soon as I see a server with a "donation system" I decide I won't spend a buck on it. If I donate, I donate 'cause I like the server. Not to get some no-effect headgear or a random amount of OBBs. But then again, I'm a known hater of donation based servers, and tend to argue against all sorts of donations as soon as I get the chance.
