Hypocritical Players

So I've been trying to find Mid Rate servers like many others after the one I played at fell. But I would like to just point out the hypocrisy in our players and I include myself.

We often complain how that there is no 'decent' server and if you're trying to find one it is simply not there. However, let me tell you that I've supported this one server where everything was stable and it was all good(well it's not perfect but..) but then people left (another server, most likely with their guild) which affected the BG and WOE scene and population steadily decreased until owner said it was enough and he closed it. To my astonishment, I see said players who left go around here(on this forum) saying that there are no decent mid-rate servers left. We have ourselves to blame and I keep getting annoyed when people say that. It's all there is to it, In The End it doesn't even matter... and we're all to be blamed.

There are too many servers. It's not a secret, it has been like that for years.

Setting up a server became too easy, suddenly every usual, casual player is a GM as well and everyone thinks they alone are in knowledge of the holy grail of RO.

There should be one big Low-Rate, one big Mid-Rate and one big High-Rate. End of it.
But that will never happen.

Things like voting and review sites didn't really help that situation, they gave the platforms for crappy servers to spread.

Now, when every crappy server out there has like 5-10 players, all of those could fill one or two bigger, good servers.

Conclusion: Stop making servers. Stop thinking you know what's best for RO players. Play the f*** game.

That it's the fault of people who do nothing but expect everything is news to no one.

Pretty much this, every new server is from a person looking to milk the playerbase, that's what killed the game and is why some say pservers killed RO.

Well, that's not entirely true. Honestly, if it weren't for pServers, RO would've been dead 6 years ago already.

The only thing that kept it alive was the customizing. Gravity kept on making it worse.

But it is true that greedy admins destroyed the private server community in general. Many people left because of lost work and lost lifetime on crappy servers that went down and never came back.

I agree with dark especially with greedy admins. Someone made a similar server to their previous one just to gain profit, just because the one they had was dying. Instead of improving it they basically copy pasted everything and re-named it ragnachan. Admin became active for 3 months then just stopped taking suggestions for updates.

The problem is not that there are too many servers. It's the players who keep buying into cash grab servers like ragnachan. They didn't even try to hide the fact that it's a copy of their other failed server (although in their mind it was probably a success.. lots of money for zero effort)

The answer is to stop donating. If there's nobody to exploit, the remaining admins will be the ones who are really passionate about RO.

Bc that's what most pservers offer, a p2w approach, even though most only give hats these are often the only way to make unique builds (sometimes there's no way to even get Sunglasses[1] outside of the 'donation' shop).

well the current Mid Rate I'm playing only has cosmetic items in the donation shop and all the usual "donation" headgears are only available via bg badges

Err, how does this even have anything remotely to do with logic? Fault is something very subjective. And certainly you can blame someone for doing nothing. Like if you know a criminal but don't go to the police, it's certainly your fault he isn't caught. Though I guess it's comfortable just blaming the police for not doing their job.

Anyway, I think this is simply because half of the population on RO private servers wants only to play on a fresh server. So even if the server is perfectly managed, you will always have this loss of players after a few months, there's nothing you can do against that. Also there are plenty of players that only want to play on a server with 100+ players.

And you know what? The server owners that want to milk money aim for exactly that audience, so they get lots of players early.

If you just go by server specs and how well-versed the admin is with programming, there are actually quite some great servers, but they are always at 0-20 population, so most people just ignore them. And of course that's understandable as a big part of RO's charm is from playing with others.

There's nothing you can do to change this situation now. There will always be tons of servers running so people can always switch if they want and there won't be a million new players coming to RO now.

Exactly! Players are always aiming to be one of the pioneers. Why? On my observation, these players are after the server's non-existent economy. In short, they'd like to get rich and strong before other players get into the server.

Hypocritical Players..
My server has only cosmetics in the cash shop and still players cried about it. They want items in the cash shop that give you advantage, which I can't understand.

Hail kr1s..

Of course I don't make much money with selling cosmetic headgears or clothe colors as an admin - but eh, idgaf. I'm not here to become rich with RO.
I play this game since I'm 12, I'm 23 now that's my half life. This game has given me so much, I met so many nice people and all I want to do is to give people a non-greedy server which really puts effort into the project.

The sad part is just that, as Kolby and DarkDevine stated, there are way to many servers and to many owners that open servers for a few months to get a lot of donations, close and repeat. MR players also have always been extremely resistant to changes and if they join a server that's different, they try to change it by suggesting the "common staple" features/npc's - and leave because the server ends up being "like the rest".
If they'd just stay on a server that seriously puts effort into developing instead of leaving after a few weeks those servers would survive so much longer.

Feel free to keep any mistakes I made, I'm not english native =D
