How to help server grow?
« on: May 24, 2009, 11:58 pm »
I was pondering over how I can contribute to a server's pop growth as a player....
What I've done so far is voting for the server and writing reviews...
any better, more effective ideas?

I'm playing on Ymir-RO, and although the server is a really professionally set up server, and well maintained, but the pop is growing too slowly. I can't understand how other servers can get 500+ players?? How do you get the flow of people into the server?

1) Put a banner that advertises your server in your signature
2) Get active here on RMS forums and stay active forever
3) Start suggesting your server in the "Server Seeking" area (Make sure you suggest properly)

That's one idea.  Also it normally depends what sort of time on the year it is.  The best time to open or advertise a server is usually in the summer... Which is here!

As for Ymir-Ro, you would have to erase the past  ;)

As a player, you cannot really do all that much, it's all in Ymir's hands. Most servers with such high player numbers have either been around for a very long while, or had excellent server starts and little to no screwups since.

Players will usually have a hissy fit and leave with major changes such as wipes, major downtime, etc...

Go where no server owner has gone to before.

Simply set up your SIG and mention the server casually in any and all places where you have an online presence. Most people agree the RO scene is getting old and new players are hard to come by, which is why it might be best if you have online buddies (ie: online social circles) where you can find fresh blood who'd like trying out a new "free" game.

Anime forums would probably be the best place to start such a marketing campaign.

very good suggestions guys. :)

Past of Ymir-RO is really the past now.
I'm thinking of how to find new players.
I myself was very cautious when Ymir-RO re-opened, but ever since the reopen, it has been up and running EVERYDAY, nearly glitch free.
I personally felt it has turned a new leaf, and is now an excellent server....
BUT!!
BUT!! where are the players?

so,... anyway,.. yeah. i'll probably have to make a Ymir-RO sig for all and any forum i participate in. :)

Not in other server's forums, that will make Ymir look bad.

Honestly, i didn't think of it because I never thought people look at signatures.
I personally don't bother with any signatures at all (unless its a hot naked babe).  ;D

man I've got the same problem you face, the server is great primer and I'm playing even more so that players are missing and what I see are 500 + servers on opening by ae. as is the dissemination of these guys?
I do not understand and now I think servers are growing fast are LR

There are the people critical on just how long it takes to level up a character, or those who usually base it off of first look and population at the time or in average. The best a server can do is find reasonable ways to get their name out there, and the less trouble by doing so the better. Being that it's a school year, the chances of a great increase in players might be slimmer for small servers, but It's best not to give up hope. The more a server shows activity and nifty updates to keep themselves alive, the better. X3

Use banners, be friendly, recruit irl or internet friends.
'effective now, ***** is butthurt because his server sucks without competent players to make things interesting'

Spread it by mouth, and be sure to talk to everyone about it ONE by ONE.

I wanted to stress out the ONE by ONE basically because posting it or doing a group message about it would help it out, but talking to them one by one, enticing them to play and then letting them do it as well makes a bigger population

Trust me on this. :P
