eAthena Renewal Branch
« on: Mar 08, 2011, 04:37 am »
Hey Everyone,

Just letting you all know, I'll be adding a lot of stuff to the eAthena Renewal Branch soon. Instead of sitting around waiting for others to do the job, or wait for aegis files to come out. I've taken matters into my own hands and am getting the stuff the old school way (with lots of screenshots, zeny, and characters on official servers).

So far I have a pretty big list of files I've already changed, ready to be added. But they need to be worked on a bit first. Already have changes to 1-1 job change quests, the new novice grounds fixed up a bit, renewal formulas (not in ReAM or 3CeAM yet), fixes to a lot of the 3rd classes, official behavior of official features in RO. Next comes Eden Group Quests and 3rd job quests.

Heres to hoping this kicks things into the way they used to be~
(where eA had the latest stuff in testing regardless of how "hard" or "annoying" it is to add).

:)

In case you don't believe me:

So pretty much you're going to be scripting all the renewal NPCs?

“The school of the undefeated East!”
“The winds of the king!”
“Look! The East is burning red!”

So pretty much you're going to be scripting all the renewal NPCs?

And working on renewal mechanics within the source code.

This is interesting, because for a while I've been trying to grasp what is the state of affairs in eA regarding renewal.

It appears that during my absence there's been much promising and little delivering :/ Worse, I can't even find any relevant information in the forums that actually tell me what is going on.

I am quite surprised eA Renewal has taken so long to get done... too much competition and greed on the development front from private servers, it seems?

Soon I will be having to add renewal stuff to my server, so I'll be coming back to eA to code again, it'll sure be helpful to know beforehand just what is going on by then xD;

Did I hear good news Skotlex?

I don't know, I just think the two branches should stay as separated as possible.  Never merge them please maybe just abandon one when the time comes.  Because some people have no clue will just update update update and then create more help topic in eA than anything.

    This is interesting, because for a while I've been trying to grasp what is the state of affairs in eA regarding renewal.

    Basically whats happened is any of the following depending on the person:
     * Opened their own server and won't release the new stuff because they want it for themselves so their server is more updated than others.
     * Lost interest in developing Ragnarok after episode 12.
     * Got tired of the dev drama
     * Got a real life.
     * Went to work for Gravity or a company with an RO license.[/list]

    So in summary, eA has been pretty much stagnant and hasn't seen much progress since I stopped being active (or earlier)? o.o;

    Or at least, renewal-wise. I see there's been a lot of activity in the trunk branch since a while ago, and I am still reviewing the updates as I am migrating my server's codebase to trunk.

    I am not exactly surprised by the level of selfishness that has powered this... back when advanced classes were first added, there was little progress and much of the same stuff (everything getting implemented on private servers and not doing any sharing) until a few developers (including me from back then) started actually working on adding the new classes to eA.

    Ah well... I hope I can juggle my long list of hobbies to include working on eA as well ;x I am also gonna need to get updated on just who is left in the eA team... I don't really see much mention of these things in the forums :B'

    Aw, I don't know anybody from that list xD Except Ultra-Mage and Lone-Wolf, that is. Looks like I am gonna have to drop by the forums and re-meet the new team :B

    Afaik Trunk/Stable development headed for a change, A+ for the Core devs. I noticed one core developer working his/her a** off to fix bugs etc but renewal branch remains almost unchanged or almost undeveloped.
