I've had my eye on two emulators for a while now, and at least one is almost done.

Not much longer.

There were a few bans today in one of the server i play because of insults today, out of which like 75% were br  :-\
I've only met 3 non-noobish attitude BRs but mayb that's just bad luck

devow

isnt the solution easy, ban the ip of br/pinoys? since playing on a server is not a right, admins can choose who plays on their server. and if that still doesnt solve the problem, ban anyone not talking in english (or server language).

Well we do allow BRs to talk in their language just not in the @main, then they start cursing english people with the few english word they know .... so ya.
But there's still good BRs it's not like you can know all of'em

Well considering most servers now a days are (approximately  - rough figures) 60-40% Brazilian and Philippine players to rest of the world, I tend to see alot of players cursing, rule abusing and generally being annoying. But of course we cannot just single them out as the "bad players" and simply IP ban the whole lot of them.

Judging them by their stereotypical behaviors, no offense - makes you almost as bad as they are. Think about it just for a moment, they see you as another player who "hates" them, and inturn - "curse you out" which, naturally, causes you to retaliate with other profanity.

You (Directed at nobody, using it in the first person [Read above]) see them as a Brazilian/Philippine player who is obviously about to do something wrong, so as soon as they make a minuscule mistake, they are immediately reported to the closest Game Master, Administrator or equivalent.

I am in noway saying that everybody is this way, just using it as a small example , and being Game Master myself - I get numerous reports about this kind of thing happening. Most of the time I just hand out warnings since they are normally small things - but I believe that no matter where they are from, all players should get the same punishment whatever it may be.

In no way should anybody be refused service from a server just because of where they are from. If you cannot escape prejudices on an online game, where can you?

Prejudices are one thing, yes.  Stereotyping is very, very bad.  However, if you don't speak the language that the server rules are written in, you should still be accountable for breaking those rules.

Back when I was just a player (days I never want to see again), I saw someone who didn't speak English breaking some rules, blatantly.  I don't know what language they DID speak; I just know it wasn't English.  I basically said "hey, please stop doing that, or I'm going to report you."  His response was "huehuehuehuehue."  A GM came along, and I saw a lengthy exchange where the perpetrator could not (or would not) speak English, and the GM eventually just... went away.

If the GMs speak only English, they can't enforce rules on those who don't speak English.  If said non-English speaker breaks the rules because he doesn't know the language, the rulebreaker simply has to be banned.  Ignorance is no excuse for ruining someone else's game; especially when most rules are pretty much common courtesy and common sense.  It's not racism or "Hitler-esque" to make your server "English Only!"  In fact, if there's so very many Brazilian and Pinay players, they probably have more than a few servers in their own language they can feel more at home at.

It basically comes down to rule enforcement; if the staff only speaks X languages, only players who speak X languages should be permitted to play on the server.

There's usually a player around that knows BR  ::) or they could use online translator

But is that really worth it?  It seems like too much trouble.

When I see a game that's in another language, especially if that game requires me to communicate with others, I simply don't play it.  If I see a Malaysian server, I don't even give it a second glance; I don't speak the language.

The whole basis of MMORPGs is that you are playing the game with others.  I find it disrespectful to storm onto a server that's obviously run by people who speak one language, then flood it with your own.

Pow

Very true, but that is why at the server I help out with, we employ people from each main language.

Of course the main server language is English, but having trustworthy people who speak English as their secondary language, and their native tongue as their primary language set - really does help and gives a community... a sense of community.

Man, I don't even know where to start. Rofll I'm not racist either, at all, but I can say that sometimes they get annoying. I usually just ignore it though.

Actually, this is a question I'd like to ask, because it caused problems in a server I was playing on. Say a pinoy group makes a guild "Pinoy Powah" or something of that nature. C'mon, you've seen them before, even it it's just a party named as such. If I make a guild called "Pinoys Suck", it is offensive, yes. But wouldn't the "Pinoy Powah" guild be considered offensive in the same manner? That is to say, that they are implying racism in that only Pinoys are welcome among them and they are superior to other races?

I only ask because I got kicked for being in a party called "Pinoys Suck" and arguing with the GM. >>

It all depends on the context they are using it for. I mean, if they are just using that name as a "tag" for their nation, for prides sake - there is not a problem with it. Some could argue that its meant in the context of another well known racially prejudice group (No names since it offends people) , in which case - it should not be taken lightly and punished accordingly.

"Pinoys Suck" is a blatant derogatory remark, whether harm was intended or not. The gm was well within his/her rights to remove you from the party and disband it.

I wasn't asking if the GM was right or wrong. I know it was wrong, and I said so. I was just asking, since he said that my statement was completely wrong, and that the people in the "Pinoy Powah" guild weren't doing anything wrong.
