Convenience

There are 2 things that frustrate the hell out of me when I start playing on a new server. One is the lack of some manner of quick transport to fields (field warper, @warp command, etc), even more so when there's a town warper that does the exact same thing the damn default Kafra NPCs do, minus the small 800-2400z teleport fee. The other is the lack of the @storage command, which I've only seen missing from the @command list of a server twice, and I've played a LOT of p. servers.

Part one I don't understand is what makes walking everywhere "fun". It's the most boring and usually time consuming part of the official game, aside from grinding. So what is it, the 'adventure element'? Way overrated imo.

The other part, the @storage command, I don't see how that could be a negative element at all. All it does is alleviate the nuisance of going back to town EVERY TIME you need something out of storage, usually gear or skill items that send you overweight otherwise.

I can see how these would be out on like say, 2x to 10x rates, but their absence on anything higher just seems like nothing but a pain in the donkey. To me the point of private servers is to play without the annoying aspects of Ragnarok getting in the way and fudging things up, such as fees and the simple lack of convenience. When it gets to the point of asking yourself what the difference is between the server you're playing and iRO, there's a problem.

I hate servers with too much convenience. Dungeon warps to all levels, @storage, @gstorage, @load, etc. all take the fun out of the game. If you're wanting to just dive into a quick PvP / WoE / BG scenario, then I guess it's fine, but if you want to keep the essence of the game and retain the desire to actually earn items, privileges, and satisfaction, then it's not a good idea.

Doing dungeon quests aides the economy since not everyone'll have the patience to get cards like Vanberk, etc. due to a quest (excluding the 500M requirement anyway). @storage makes Snipers OP in PvM especially at Mavkas, Iaras, etc. where they can just pop open storage for unlimited arrows and space. Inflates the economy. @load is ridiculous, too. Playing the game without crappy "conveniences" helps to establish a base of organized players, and not just a pack of lazy bums expecting everything to be handed to them.

On a WoE Server, all that's useful. PvM, grinding, self-satisfaction, and actually earning things isn't the priority. Trolling and beating the crap out of people is, so obviously you'll need to quickly get all your crap in order to reach the "top" and start doing that.

Meanwhile, other servers lean towards a more party-based, "earn your s---" environment. I prefer that. WoE's still there, PvP's not a gangrape, and it's actually interesting.

I'm sure tons of people have a variety of opinions, though. That's just mine.

I'd like to see more MRs take an LR approach - no dungeon warper, no @storage, no @go, no resetter, etc. - but I doubt to see that. I want a tough system, but eased grind.

lol I remember the first 2 days I played RO, everything seemed so atmospheric and s***. taking the airship from Payon to Einbroch, or even once walking from pront all the way to aldebaran exploring the maps, I even remember looking up long routes to walk and explore more, or even accesing Niffelheim through the suicide jump shortcut, pretty sure barely any players remember that lol, RO certainly feels like a different game the first day you start out, or at least it was that way for me. I think I started in one of the least "convenient" servers out there, euphRO. I guess I went through the full experience in that place, opened up my noob guild with a Knight guild-master char, partied, grinded s*** with 3x rates without commands like @storage ,hunted stems and mats for EDPs as means  off selling them to players for zeny, always thought I would never be interested in pvp, etc. but man if I were to still have to play RO like that, well I don't think I would even be playing lol.
All I care about these days is playing fun Battlegrounds, when I have time do WoE and rarely d*** around in pvp if battlegrounds are dead.
so in a nutshell I'd say a lot of people end up gradually getting tired of going through the entire build-up process over and over again with every server they play on wiping or dying. LegacyRO was the last low rate I ever played, remained there with friends through 2 wipes and made quite a few trans chars. LegacyRO was like...10x? best low rate I ever played lol. but yeah I feel to lazy to play "real" RO servers these days, I already had my fair share of "the experience" all I want is do BG/Woe/pvp, without a reliable warper with access to all fields, @storage and stuff like that I don't see many players, including myself, even still playing RO. funny enough among my group of friends who started out on euphRO i'm the only one who still plays  :-\ maybe it is time to quit.

They should probably add @lvup and @item while there are it.

"The school of the undefeated East!"
"The winds of the king!"
"Look! The East is burning red!"

I just love when people people make leaps like this. If someone starts a discussion about certain server features (from a mid-rate perspective) some noob troll who loves lrs (I love lr's myself) comes along and fills this template or something similar: "If you are going to do ___ might as well do ___" (which is ridiculously game breaking). @item? Please, if you are going to troll, try to be a GOOD troll, not a fail one.

Reminds me of just like last week where I suggested that Satan Morroc be added to endless tower on eRO forums and some downs kid comes and says, "How about, every Player start with a Mvp Card hu? Learn to play just." If RO was filled with idiots like this guy, most servers wouldn't have warpers/healers/would be x1/they would the exact official cash shop/etc. Believe it or not, @storage and @warp are VERY small changes to the game. Much smaller than having a warper or an often abusable healer. Resetting your skills/stats? WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Let's make 15 of every char for when we get new items because they will ruin our multipliers. Oh wait... most pservers don't last years like official servers do so making 15 of every class is pointless? Let's do it anyways.

No offense, but neither is a small change at all, both those commands affect gameplay a lot. Out of the top of my head:
@storage makes weight limit useless (giving a rather large boost to classes like snipers, as said earlier) and turns PvP/WoE into a whoever has more supplies stored wins (if you have a weight limit you have to use supplies in the most effective way, having more won't always mean a win), not to mention it is a really abusable command for afk farming (I won't go in detail).
@warp is even more of a broken command (It's way more convenient than a NPC warper btw), which gives an huge lead to ranged and a specific one hit skill (asura), not to mention it can make characters invulnerable and removes the need for teleport/fly wings (Not that it'd be a problem with @storage though). Besides that, unless severely limited, having @warp opens up a lot of exploits from people being able to access spots they shouldn't be able to.

Working with the constraints given is part of what makes games engaging, the more you remove constraints, the less fun and meaningful it is to do something ingame.

Mushu

I'll give you the @warp command being broken, but it's just as abusable as a healer as healers make champions like 10 times easier to play. I've never been on a server with @storage being enabled in PvP/WoE. Only a shoddy server with a 13 year old admin would have that command enabled in those environments.

Usagimimi

I know a few servers that have enabled @storage in WoE scenarios because the "WoE" community says that they won't play without it.

Which is sad.

I do not see where you're getting at with this.

Try to make it less about you and more about me.

But this reminds me of just a few days ago where I suggested @lvup and @item to be added onto servers for convenience. And this kid just gets off on a rant about his own personal encounters and trolls me. Talk about being rude.

Those commands are useless when there are NPC's that do the exact same thing.
Take standartRO and gwRO for an example.

Reminds me of this one time where I suggested on the forums that because Ninja suck in WoE they should get the @nuke command, but wait I didn't suggest that because there is a difference between convenience and idiocy.

LeaLea

The fact is, those commands are spoon feeding. I personally hate spoon feeding on MR's. People who EXPECT things like @warp and @storage on a server should go play a HR, 99% of those spoon feed you a ridiculous amount as is. What's the point in playing if everything is handed to you on a plate?

leokimah

People play the game for different aspects.

I personally do not care for the social/community, partying, pvm, mvping, and pvp part of the game it was fun while it lasted which got really old for me about 2 years ago.
I only care for WoE that's it. The faster i can get into it the better.

@storage is pretty much a standard command on anything past 50x. On lower rates it kinda kills the point of playing a low rate imo. I've never seen @warp on servers with rates lower that 500x and tbh i never liked that command O__o

I bet you would've suggested it anyways and run circles in your argument to prove that it is the right decision. Then, if any luck, you would sit down, take off your glasses, sigh, scratch your ass, drink your substitution beverage to alcohol (orange juice), concentrate all your mental power, shit yourself after, and finally realize that there is. a. difference. between. class imbalance and convenience. omg, rite?

And if the stars were to be align at that exact moment, if only, you might have come to realize the point I was trying to make earlier, and we probably wouldn't have this discussion. Other than that, its only you.

However,

This fine individual, someone who have probably given more thought about this than you, is right. But both argument (The OP and Xico) in this thread is still valid, except yours.

For me it's about how the game was originally. I'm the type of player who will often walk to a dungeon instead of warping there, I'll sometimes do the job quests even when there's a job changer, etc. But having a warper (especially one that is limited) and such doesn't change the game too much, because even in official versions Kafras can warp you places.

Whereas @warp and @storage change the game a bit, in my opinion. @storage especially, since the weight limit and inability to access storage easily are designed to present a certain challenge/planned annoyance. I don't think there's anything wrong with having to go back to down for at most a couple minutes to put some stuff away. Most players could use the break anyway.
