A friendly grim reminder
« on: May 02, 2017, 04:11 AM »
Greetings everyone!

I just want to tell you guys a friendly reminder. But before that let me give you a background of things:

I am a server owner just like most of you guys, been this way for 3 years now. On my 3rd year of being an admin, I decided to give it all I've got for my community because they deserved the best.

I spent at least $1300 in exclusive custom made items/stuff/monsters and the biggest main town ever with a Colosseum. It was probably one of the greatest maps @Olrox ever made. @Daifuku's logo on our main town stands to be the best there is and we are all proud of it. @Haziel's custom items made us stand out and made us feel unique.

But see, all of these client side things needs to be protected by encryption, right? I knew that before even trying to get these things into order. It is beyond frustrating seeing all your stuff gets stolen by other servers even with encrypted stuff.

Goes to show that GRF Encryption is no longer secure. Now before you say I don't know how to encrypt, trust me, I know.

This is why I wanted to remind you guys, that if you decide to get services for client-side stuff? Before you throw in $$$, always remember this risk.

This risk of getting your s*** stolen. Because it sucks.

Trust me you don't want to get into the same position as I am. So as long as there isn't an awesome way to secure, hold your $$$. But if you know the risk and still want to push forward? Get the services of the people below because they are the best.

Good luck out there!

Special thanks to the people who made our stuff, @Daifuku, @Haziel, @Olrox, @Hyvraine.

This ends my reminder/rant.

And for the server who stole our stuff, f*** you BrillianceRO, Andy Chandra.

Sad but true, what can we expect when the game itself isn't belong to us to start with.  Whatever you see online can be copied, pixel is never secure.

It's not just people who rip things from your GRF. We have also spent thousands of US Dollars on exclusive maps by Olrox. Instead of someone ripping them from our GRF,  Olrox actually resold it.

Wait for real? Olrox resells maps even if you paid for the exclusivity fee?

@Tensei how did you know that people can Decrypt the GRF? so basically even if you secured ur GRF as much as possible, still someone can bypass it?

@DeePee yes, most of your exlusive maps are somewhere. Olrox used to resell Exlusive Maps. like from HeRO the Poring Island it was exlusive now its resell.

I'm truly sad about this reminder. expected of this bunch of idiots stealing some s*** without spending $$$$.

Please remenber if you Didnt buy the license out of the korean dudes, you arent really a Owner or have rights to Exclusive anything, you just buying a cloned thing out of a dark ally online hahaha

but remenber Even if they didnt crack their GRF how things are made are limited for RO, the game himself is old as salt lol so if you see it you can pretty much re-make it to the T whitout that many problems

These maps are not made by Gravity or anyone affiliated with Gravity. They are 100% custom maps, the TalonRO one has custom textures and included a lot of work from members of the team. These are not maps shadily stolen from Gravity only to be sold to servers. Servers already HAVE all of the official maps.
But more importantly, why do people insist on jumping into these topics to say stuff like this? We know Gravity owns Ragnarok, no one has forgotten that. This is more about the lack of respect within a community. No respectful server owner is going to go out and steal from the others, in the same way you won't see Talon or Nova's GMs going out to advertise on each others forums. Think of it as honour among thieves.

To a point this people are only doing, what people did to Ragnarok they call it poetic justice lol

Now on the topic of "No respectful server owner" Most server owners are cool from time to time but they arent know as  "respectful" you can surf the forum you will see claims from DDOS each other, steal money, sell sex?, sue each other, steal complete servers, find each other IRL etc etc all kinds of petty stuff sell nudes alot of creazy server owners out there lol, you can pretty much get all kinds of drama out of any open server out there lol

Client s*** will always get stolen. I had the same discussion with Daifuku at the beginning of the year, I don't see point in protecting/encrypting client stuff.
Just make your server better/different on the server-side.

I don't see point in protecting/encrypting client stuff.

It prevents amateurs from getting into the GRF.

For everyone else, you got to figure out where they hook the decryption process and put the key. Probably, the clues are in some DLL, but I wouldn't know that, I never crack a GRF before in my life.

There are ways to add more obfuscation layers, but that just means more technical headaches or bandwidth down the road. Either way, it ends up in memory on the client side.
