beginner weapons

Hello guys i am currently working on my low rate server and do you think giving them newbie basic weapon is a bit too much?
and if i were to give them some,I am confused what items to give:
Swordsman: katana?
Thief: damascus?
Mage: Staff?
Acolyte: Rod or mace?
Merchant: axe?
please give advice on what is good for beginner weaps not weak and not OP

I think that when a player does the training grounds quest properly. They will get a reward like what you stated regardless.

There is a 1st Job Training Quest for each of the basic 6 first jobs that gives some basic equip.

Okay, so I just visited a really classic looking server, which just throws you in with almost nothing to start with. Even players.

What I find most difficult is that with rates as low as 1~3x and with no proper starting equipment is a real pain, but of its own, fun.

I mean, starting off with an archer who can't afford arrows, I ended up selling my bow and buying a main Gauche to grind some mobs outside of Payon until I  could afford to buy bow and arrows. It was fun switching from bow to main gauche when running out of SP for DS. Yes I only use DS to conserve arrows LMAO!
