Hi there, I have an issue when taking screenshots.

Whenever I take screenshots there's a 1-4 seconds delay after each shots or when I take screenshots I can't move for like 5-7 seconds the client lags.

My hardware:
core i7-720QM
nvidia geforce gts 360M 1GB
6GB Ram
native screen res: 1920x1080
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Game Setup:
3D Direct Hal or my video card
res: 1024x768x16 or 640x480x16

I tested with another laptop a sony vaio with:
core 2 duo 2.1Ghz
3GB ram
integrated graphics
OS: Windows vista home premium x86.
So far this vaio doesn't give me that lag problem when taking screenshots.

Any idea of what it might be, if it's a 64bit problem or anything else?

DarkDevine

This could be a 64-Bit problem, 32-Bit applications run slower on 64-Bit systems.

Also, did you know that tests proved, that the i-family of intel processors is slower than multiple cores?
An i-processor is better if you do graphics design like in Cinema4D or you're streaming videos,
for things like gaming a dual/quad-core is much more effective because it can handle stuff parallel to other stuff better.
TotalRO - 10x/10x

how many cores does i7 have? from what i know 6? no? pls enlighten me

@DarkDevine

I'll try using win 7 ultimate 32 bit with vmware if that's the case.
But RO is the only game that has this problem, I mean the main problem is when I take screenshots. I shouldn't lag that much.

@scrollLock
this lap quad core, has 4 physical cores and 8 logical cores.

Hope vmware helps me to identify if it's really a 64bit problem.

@Kratos:
This will create more lag lol.
Live with it or don't play RO (or don't just buy every stuff that is released because you have too much money, go for quad-core)

@scrollLock:
One core.
The difference is, the i is for intelligent, the processor handles stuff based on the kind of stuff, like if you are making cpu-intensive graphics, it concentrates it's resources on it while slowing down other applications.

It sounds nice, but it really isn't. The i-family is somewhat a downgrade of a quad-core CPU, depending on what you use your PC for.
If you're graphics designer or coder working with IDEs like visual studio, you're good with a i-family CPU, if you're gamer, you should rather stick to quad-core.
TotalRO - 10x/10x

Kaezar

x64 here as well, dual core

Now that you mentioned it, the client does freeze up slightly when taking a screenshot. Around 1~2 seconds freeze here upon pressing the print screen button. I had thought it was always like this even in my win xp. Don't the others also freeze a bit?

the i7 720QM is a quad core.

My laptop is x64 too, and yes it lags when taking an SS

So far I have no problems with any games I have played, just with RO, and the only problem I have is with the screenshots.
As I said, it might be an OS problem, but I have no way to verify this info.
I asked Ultramage from eA forums, he said it might be related with the native resolution, but he's not sure.
I can live with it, but there might be a solution :P

Oh and vmware doesn't like RO.

Have you tried setting RO to run as 'Affinity'? It doesn't require much processing power, anyway.

How many cpu should I set, I have 8.

By the way I found that task manager has low priority for RO, even if I change it to normal it reverts back to low.

@Kaezar can you confirm this? or anyone with x64 that have this problem.

Thanks!

If you haven't known, RO has been around since the what? 90's? So what you need to do is, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, It should open task manager, Go to process tab, Look for your RO you play, Right click it and set affinity to use, single core, Uncheck every other box.

Why? Plain and simple, Games made from 90's DONT support Dual,Quad,Core2Duo Or whatever core your computer has to offer. RO was made for the settings to run off a Pentium 2 or Pentium 3 at best. You will notice when you change it to 1 core, your RO skill spam is alot smoother and you don't lag like crazy when skill spamming. Plus, bmp format for effects is a bad bad idea. But 99% of RO's sprites and all are based of BMP's i don't know why, but i think its to make a lag free 3D gaming. As for the screenshots thing. Its very common, If your THAT concerned about speed on screenies? I suggest Fraps or Wegame or w/e.

PS- Its not a x64 or x32 problem. And i wonder what gave you the idea that changing priority would speed it up? Changing priority means that the computer will look forward to what data processing should go first, Active window and setting it to high makes no difference. Affinity sir.
