Getting started . . .
« on: May 17, 2010, 11:28 am »
Hey there, RMS staff.

I'm brand new to the RMS test server and pretty new to RO in general, but so far I haven't had much luck getting the client started properly . . .
I have downloaded and installed the Ragnarok .exe from Gravity's iRO site as have I downloaded and installed both your kRO client and your RO Renewal client (the latest versions). I also put the contents of the unzip'd .rar translation files (from KR–>EN) in the data folder, which contains the proper server connection information (copy–pasted) in .xml format. I let my iRO client, my Sakray client, your kRO client, and your Renewal client all update themselves at launch.

Problem #1: Despite this, my installer for the kRO client had buttons that were gibberish (got past this and installed it anyway after looking a bit at the forum), and the buttons at login (where I would put my game id and password if I had a kRO account) are still in Hangul, which I can't read  :'( ha ha.

Problem #2: This may sound utterly stupid to the more experienced of you lot, but I have been unable to get to the server select screen that so many of you have mentioned throughout these posts. I would assume this would be before the login screen. And yet, the login screen ids the only place I have been taken upon game start up.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me,

Cheers,

greenbicycle

I don't suggest using the iRO client, just download the renewal client from this site.

also, can you tell me if your data folder (the kRO one) has an sdata.grf?

sdata.grf . . .

The kRO directory on C: has a file titled "data.grf" but it isn't in the data folder that was made upon installation (if that matters).
Should I be renaming "data.grf" to "sdata.grf"?

Thanks for getting back to me so fast by the way.

Yea.. update kRO, rename the data.grf to sdata.grf and try again.
If it still doesn't work.. you might not have the latest client / renewal client?

Oh my! In the end it still didn't work (ha ha ha).

I un-installed everything and made sure to get the most recent client. I'm trying to be a bit more organized this time. Everything's updated and all of the right files are there. But I've run into a different problem this time: When I start Ragnarok Online.exe from my desktop, after the little hackshield logo in the bottom right of my screen goes away, the program hangs up in a window with no center . . .

That probably sounds funny. The window has a picture of my desktop (the picture) inside it and shows the loading hourglass when I mouse over the window . . . hmmm.

I feel like I'm getting closer!  :D

lol that's odd, if you run the RMS client there should be no hackshield loading
