you're right. based on the reviews from their RMS page.
http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=serverstat&serid=15591&itv=6&url_sname=404RO&page_num=1
it looks like the server is dying or already dead.

Peanut

Yes, Really Sad story to see How many New Server and how many Servers die...

yC

That's quite a fast one .. why open when the server wont last for even a month -.-.  Delisted.

Peanut

Yes, i don't know why Peoples Open a Server and then Close that fast.
Maybe GM abusing so no one Join? I don't know.

Let's not be so harsh...!

Of course it's sad to see such a young server die, but after all, sometimes things don't work out as intended, and sometimes running a server ends up being much different from what was expected... And at least judging from the reviews, it doesn't seem like the staff was the root of this server's problem.

A server dies quickly when staffs are not dedicated into their server.

True Story. But if i want to Open a Server i'm looking for a Good interested proffesionel Team.
And not Randoms. Sorry But it's true. But most Hoster think Hey let's Open a RO Server and we get 1000 Players.
But they don't Promote got some Bugs want to be a Legit gamer. Nothing of them work good so Close.

With this server, they opened to cater to a specific playerbase, then one of the GMs turned around and said "we don't need you anymore" to their initial players.

So they quit, the population dropped to like 10, and it is where it is now.  The Admin was like "the server is not dead, just down for maintenance" but that was a while ago, and now the forums are down too.

Peanut

Really Sad Story. It's like Okay i don't get 100+ Players so i don't want to host this Server.

lilsword

It's because their main  reason for putting up a small server is to earn, and not making a big and good community, that's why servers with such owners dies really fast.

Peanut

True Story i thought so too
I didn't wrote this because not all Server thinking so. But Most Hoster's are doing a P-Server to Earn.

Actually this server didn't have any donations at all and wasn't opened for money. It was just something a guy put together for a forum all the people frequented on. It mostly ran on player suggestions of what their ideal server would be and nerfed a bunch of things on that as well adding cooldowns to healers, changing line of sight for monsters that people complained about but was ignored. They also had a bad GM that alienated most of the playerbase with bad bot checks by following people around and harassing new players instead of doing more discrete checks, and also jailed most players when they complained about changes or muted them when they had valid points. After a while, they tried to go public with the server to see if they could make it grow since playing on a 20-30 person server wasn't that fun, but they alienated their initial userbase by saying they're not catering to their intial forum/userbase anymore and that they're disassociating themselves with them which got people really pissed off. After more drama, s*** bugs, lack of direction and everyone hating the GM and the absent admin, the server died.

lol DontShootTheMessenger, did the forum survive or it died together with the server altogether, if so there's a lesson learnt =/

The admins said they would bring the server back after some work, then shut the site down completely a few days later.

It used to be http://404ro.no-ip.info/

Peanut

Most Admins start to lie because they don't want to get Raging Players.

Well sort of. New forum associated with the server died but the original forums where everyone came from is still there. But no one posts there anymore since most people got enough of their nolstagia/drama fix for another 10 years haha. You can just google 404RO to find the 'sekrit' forum and how it started and died anyways.  All the drama is pretty well documented since its public. /heh

Basically, don't open up servers if you have no strong ideas of what you're going to do or if you have bad leadership and bad staff. The admin was absent the whole time anyways and only did damage control when things got out of hand but never acknowledged the problems like getting rid of the bad gm.

Playtester

That is the general problem of RO. In theory we would only need like 8 private servers to cover all the different type that players want, but since the staff isn't perfect and servers don't exist forever, there are always soooo many and it's hard to find out if the staff is competent or not at first look.

DontShootTheMessenger

Usually by the time you notice all the problems wrong with a server, you're already too burned out to pick a new server or play the game anymore. Last few servers I played had a broken donation system with rampant MVP cards, but a competent staff. Now I'm playing a decently balanced server but the team is corrupt, absent, and incompetent.

Playtester

Well, over time you'll learn how to tell it better. Also I found it's a very good idea to always wait and carefully read everything the staff posted on the server information and on forums and only join if you have really good feeling and as long as you don't have that just lurk around forums and see if it gets better. I'm also getting burned out if I switch servers, so I'm only really joining one every so many years. ;-)
