FluidRO stealing web contents from TalonRO

As the title says, I am not sure why I am encountering these plagiarists (thieves) recently.

Look at how similar their navigation bar is and the style of the section after the top slideshow.

Coincidence? I don't think so, take a look at these background images:

And I am sure I've seen the images in their "Information" (#information anchor) section somewhere. Especially the "Rates" image, I'm sure I've seen it before

I'm not too bothered by these kind of servers anymore to be honest. Most of them don't live longer than a month anyway and this one won't be different.

Same thing with this other new server, ImperialRO, who is using an custom map we had made for us exclusively. Sucks to see someone else use something you've paid a lot of money for, but then again, that one will also die in a month or two, without a doubt.

On topic:  The site is similar but at least they put a lot of work and it's not a 100% copy and paste theme. I actually like some parts of their site more than Talon's.

Btw what is the limit of one can copy other's work ? I play many servers and meet lot of similar works 1 and another.

There's a fair amount of sites with exactly the same splash design, it seems to be a premade which is then modified here and there at an additional cost, but nothing drastic.

You can't "steal" a website design like that besides saving the background image and other plain elements.

TalonRO ran a contest to have players design art for the landing page. Those are not "random artworks" they're art works players on Talon put a lot of effort into that are now being used without permission.

Decided I'd have some fun with this one, so I donned my sexy detective cap and went to work.  After a brief investigation, it seems that they've done more than just copy the general design of TalonRO's website, but they've also copied many of the descriptions featured on TalonRO's website too!

Surely they wrote up their own server rules though, right?!  Of course not, because that would be too difficult apparently.  Those were taken from [ForsakenRO's forum!]

Not a good start there, FluidRO.  If you're too lazy to write your own descriptions for your website/forums, then what does that tell us about the effort you'll put into running your server?

It seems you guys forget that private servers are nothing more than a stolen game. It makes no sense to complain about stolen parts of a website. It's just like a thief complaining that someone is stealing just like he does.

Man, you guys are stating the obvious but ignoring the obvious at the same time.

Obviously there's nothing anyone can do legally or action wise against the server for stealing content. But, if you take a minute to look at some past posts here on rms, you'll see that putting information on shady or downright dishonest activity by servers/admins is part of what this section is for. Look at the entire thread about RebirthRO and Ancy for instance. Or the fact that servers and admins can get blacklisted if they're deemed a hazard to get involved with.

So yeah, people should discuss or spread the word when people do stuff like this. It goes towards the integrity of the server administration and the way they go about business. Are you willing to play on a server that blatantly steals content without providing credit? Or one that seems to have put together it's entire site/forum by throwing together bits and pieces of work done by other server creators?

Worst case scenario, they'll probably milk hopeful players looking for something fresh and new, then shut it down after weeks to months without having done anything creative. Best case, they don't seem to have any creativity to begin with so maybe they never get a good server going and the whole thing just crashes and burn. Or they could actually make a good server. Who knows. The theft speaks to non-professionalism and ignorance though.

Do not tell people what they can and can't post around here.

Yes, this topic is somewhat common, and yes there's nothing RMS can do about it.

However! Just like Robert said, this section is used for alerting other players of the shady practices that some servers carry out.  Potential FluidRO players should be aware of the unprofessional antics of their admin, so that they can make an informed decision of whether to dedicate their time (and money if they're in the habit of donating to servers) to that particular server or not.  After all, most players would probably rather settle for a long-lasting server that's run by a professional and passionate GM team, rather than one run by a group of people who feel the need to copy content from various other servers because they can't be bothered to write up their own descriptions.

For your information that background was first used by DoM in 2015 during the Teaser. So from September to December 2015.

BalikRO admin used it as well starting from November 2015.

TalonRO used it later.
