Title: [TuT] How to properly report stolen content and prove it is yours beyond a doubt
Post by: Zone on Jan 23, 2010, 05:50 PM
For checking if your content was stolen and how to report it: http://www.loriswebs.com/stop-stolen-content.html

And for the fun part :D

There are many ways of adding identification to your content, whether it's HTML, Images, Sprites, ACTor files, or Executables.
Even if you lose the originals, you can do things like embedding information into the files.

Hex editing, Resource hacking, Cryptologic Stego, embedding files into other files.
I know last year I was going to make a guide on setting up encryption for GRF files and allowing them to be read from your clients, but because this is the internet and I live in the United States, I cannot show what I do because of Encryption Export Laws. Read This (http://www.bis.doc.gov/encryption/default.htm).

Anyways, Everything I am going to tell you is publicly available.
Hex editing: Simply find a hex editor, XVI32 is a free hex editor. Insert text
Resource Hacking: Get resource hacker, for executable files. Edit and compile script in random place
Debugger: Get something like Ollydbg add comments
Command Prompt + Winzip/7z/rar: Bind files using command line.
Stego Tools: Just google this, there are loads out there.

!!Make sure to insert information where there are empty spaces.!!

Also, SSI is a good thing to know.
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/ssi.html
<!-- special message -->
These are good to hide in long codes for functions.

For images you can also use embedded watermarking.
Exif modifiers are another good set of tools.
If you are making websites and what not, make sure to use some method of this, and larger images with some kinda hidden watermarking

If you are looking for crypto tools for secure messaging and what not, send me a PM.

I'm hoping it gets stickied, because people post here about stolen content, they should read this first.
They should follow these first before reporting here.

Very nice guide, thanks for sharing it with us.

Since more & more RO servers seem to be stealing content from each other, this guide should prove quite handy for future cases.

Ermmmm, SSI (server side includes) is nothing more than a script for making dynamic content (in the same vein as PHP, cgi, etc.). Not really useful in hiding anything D:

Why not? They worked hard on it, why the hell should some punk donkey 12 year old sell it and claim he made it?

I'd also like to remind all you people who buy website layouts, that unless you pay a HUGE ton of money for exclusive copyrights to the layout, you're USING it. You don't own it, the designer of the layout does, and if you're using stock or commissioned art, the same thing goes. If someone happens to have commissioned the same layout designer, for the same layout your server is using, they stole nothing, and you are SOL. In fact it's a good way to piss off artists and web designers when you go making a stink and looking stupid over it.

Just some extra guidelines for whining in the whining box!

I'll move this to the Rant section, no point to have this in the HoS section when topics aren't created in there directly.
