Just search for old clients at the *athena forums and diff them until you find the right one. I don't know the version of this neither if it's nowadays a option for the client but I played servers with it some years ago, just that.

It's permanent but you can't just get or not get, the server needs to allow different clients from what they let you use which rarely happen so if they catch you, you end banned.
