Title: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Akasuna on Aug 11, 2011, 07:23 PM
Hello, anybody from EternityRO still around? If so are you guys playing on another server or waiting for EternityRO to make a come back?

I thought they are still alive ... no? not anymore?  *Checks website* ... oh I see, what happened there?  Last time I heard, which was a month or two ago, they are thinking of remaking or wiping (v4 now?).

Nope, it's gone for now. Yes, there's rumors of a v4 in the making. Apparently some corrupted GM deleted everything I think it was like GM Adria? Or something. I'm not 100% sure on the details, but that's what I've heard. Are you from EternityRO?

Honestly I think I tried there only for a few days a few wipes ago lol.  Can't say I am from it.

During v2? EternityRO was big during v2 and most of the people from LegacyRO migrated to there after LegacyRO died. I wonder where they went tbh. I don't see any sign of Nabz or any other guys from LegacyRO still around. Do you still play RO?

YES, YES, YES! I am from eternityRO!

All the way from v1 to v3. Have to say I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have, but such is the way of life.

Oh such an amazing server, I cannot wait for v4. If it does launch, I'm absolutely(hopefully I'll have time) gonna play it.

Cool, I never played v3. I just played v2 tbh. Yeah, I know what you mean. Erm, well as it seems the site is down and the forums are down. Any news on what's going on? Is EternityRO finally done for?

They have been and from the looks of it, it's officially done for. I know some of the people moved on to other servers like heRO, blazeRO, and neuRO. I know neuRO closed, so idk where those people went as well as those who were waiting for the server to reopen.

I thought giving two guilds super items would balance competition.

^Is that why the server closed? I heard something like that, but I'm not sure. I wasn't around at that point.

I used the name Luned back then, and The Smoking Nun (gunslinger). moved on to lumina which is on its deathbed, and neuro which died utterly.
now everyone is scattered to the winds.
some startup managed to monopolize on neuro death and snag some people. cavalero already shows signs of inevitable failure though.
the hardcore BG types have gone to "Battle of Midgard" suber high rate with its excellent ranking system and arbitrary gm punishments..
theres just no obvious choice right now.

karei killed it by giving himself god items and playing woe, then screwing server over when he got hatespammed.
no idea what happened after that, as I left as well.
if someone actually gave Adria that kindof power, they must've wanted server to die. if there was ever a GM that had PMS attacks, its her.

Post by: blaiblou on Nov 29, 2011, 11:16 AM
Seriously. Why do people hate Karei that much? I haven't seen a better admin in my whole RO lifetime. Never. I played in many good servers, about three more than great ones, and only one of them had great Staff, that's eternityRO.

Yeah they must have had problems, but they're human, that is bound to happen one time or another, and they were working for free. Would you hold yourself and keep it cool when you're doing volunteer work for a community who hardly if ever appreciates all the time(your time, which could have been spent in earning money) and effort you put into it?
I like to think myself as a person who stands out among the crowd in terms of following reason, but I don't know how I would react getting pressure from a very large number of people. And when I mention pressure, that's pure hate you'll get.

Hmm.. but so it seems the website is down. Have been trying to connect in some time to no avail. Just stumbled across one website which supposedly tells you if the website is down for sure or if it's a problem between you and the domain. The answer was it's down.
I guess only time will tell whether or not it's ever coming back on again.
If it does, and the news get to me, I'll most probably be there.

At any rate, eternityRO was a outstandingly great server in my opinion, and it shall stay in my memory as such, for as long as I can keep it. Safely guarded as one of the three most amazing RO servers ever to cross my way.

If you wish to know what really happened to Eternity v3, then read this. I'm not hiding who I am, I am Adria "the horrible admin", "nasty b****", whatever other nicknames come up. This was written a few months after the end of v3, and contains even what went on amongst the team. If you think Karei was a good owner / main Administrator, then you are delusional. Paying the bills on time is great, but ignoring the server and stealing its donations is not the mark of a good owner.

You sound like one of the butthurt people who got banned. Poor you.

I was not playing the game, I was an Administrator. I was working, not playing around. Karei may own the server and do as he wished, but specifically concerning the money, he "paid" himself in secret while having a public disclaimer that nobody working for Eternity ( including himself ) would get any money from the donations. Just in case your little brain can't comprehend that, it means that what he was doing was stealing which is illegal. Also, making a profit from RO is illegal, though paying any volunteer employees is not illegal ( in the United States ).

Millions of people around the world overwork themselves, some without realising it until they have an obvious and unavoidable symptom. It has nothing at all to do with their mental capacity. Keep your ignorance to yourself next time, or better yet go get an education about what you're talking about first. I don't know who shat in your milkshake, but keeping a grudge over something that happened almost a year ago is far worse than simply being stressed over a game. kthxbai.

I never liked adria, as I do not like it when people let their emotions cloud their judgement.
adria is not the reason eternity died. karei is. he merely saw her as a useful pawn and took advantage of it.

zoladrius, you're just showing off your own idiocy. the more you say the less meaning it has.

Honestly I don't really care that much anymore if people think I'm the bad guy. I apologised for my behaviour and my actions during my time working for Eternity, and I truly meant it. I had hoped that v4 would happen, for the players' sakes. I know people enjoyed playing, despite all the problems and behind-the-scenes s***. I'm fairly certain that the site was taken down due to my post being discovered ( commented on people's profiles and in PMs only ), but I have no proof of it. It sucks, I actually really loved just playing RO, and there's no good servers around.

Thoth, thank you for your comment. I am guilty as charged, but I did my best to make the right decisions for Eternity as I saw them. As I told Karei from the start, I am not fit for Administrative duties - I was chosen because he trusted me the most, not because I was a good choice to administrate. I was a GM, and I'll be damned if I wasn't good at that ( sup, MobRO's GM-Kahli ).

I heard about the NeuRO stuff. Didn't really get into it because it was a mid-rate and it wasn't all that impressive either imo. Okay, so apparently Karei messed up now too? Idk, I've heard all kinds of rumor about what happened and I'm not even sure what to believe anymore.

At any rate, eternityRO was a outstandingly great server in my opinion, and it shall stay in my memory as such, for as long as I can keep it. Safely guarded as one of the three most amazing RO servers ever to cross my way.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing too. Good luck finding a server like that.

EDIT: Wow, I didn't realize there was a second page here, let alone a second page with Adria replying. Interesting. Also, out of curiosity what exactly is it that you did Adria?

I was an Administrator ( the only one for several months after the others quit ), and due to several factors I effectively ended v3.

Please read the link for the true story of Eternity v3 and it's downfall. There's no rumours in it, it's purely facts from my experience on the team.

if you ask me eternityro died the day karei was caught cheating in woe with his "legit" char
so long as he held any position of power there was no way to recover from that.

I think it started dying earlier than that, when Amnesia and Sinergy left and the remaining two larger guilds were left to fight with eachother and guilds that were previously nonfactors, and Karei did what he did to give the other guilds more challenge to keep them in the server. Didn't work very well though  :P

omfg Graviteh?!?!? I must be seeing things.  I still have you on my msn, are you still around ro?

Edit:  To just make things simple and easy.  Would it be more acceptable if the server tell you in the beginning that donation will go toward bills and paid staff?  There is always an end to a lie and when the truth is discovered it hurts.  After all these years I have seen way to many "drama" came from "truth" and "corruption" undiscovered.  While corruption is unacceptable in any way because they make the server a scam in all cases.  Having donation, asking for donation and telling you straight that they are being pocketed will not stop all player from making a donation.  I just think running a server like that would create less drama in the long run.

Unfortunately Karei did not do that. Even when I asked him to pay me ( as I was the only Admin and only non-Developer on the staff for months ), he insisted that nobody would be paid. I saw how much the server was getting in donations every month, and also found that it's not illegal to pay people - but he put it in the server's rules and regulations that -nobody- would be getting money for their work. Except him, because clearly he's above everyone else ( /sarcasm ). I mostly just had a problem because he lied to even his "most trusted" staff members, and abandoned the server several times knowing that I did not feel capable of running it myself. I would have been happy if he had paid me even a small amount, and even the players asked him to pay me. If it was a minimum-wage job ( according to the state I live in ), I would have gotten 4-6h of 'overtime' every single day of the week, and made around $30k in the 7 months I was an Administrator ( ~$26k for US federal min. wage ). Obviously I didn't ask him to pay me that much, and I only asked for money after a few months of administrating solo and felt like I had earned a few hundred a month. And yes, I really did put in 90-100 hours a week, occasionally more if it was necessary.

Anyone from EternityRO looking for a decent server :P? Pm me :)
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: kar on Jan 16, 2012, 08:38 PM
Let's summarize:

What happened?
EternityRO closed after 3 versions.

What's Karei's Fault?
Lots of stuff. Poor implementation, not thinking things through, "cheating", and taking about $25 out of the donation fund (I bought slippers on ebay, what can I say).

Why Did Karei Cheat?
I made illigit characters to balance out WoE. I introduced new items into the market, that shouldn't have been there. I equalized and manipulated server mechanics to give everyone the appearance that things were more balanced than they were. Things were not balanced. V1 and V2 had market intervention too, but never got stupidly s*** enough to warrant WoE meddling. Was I wrong? Only to let people find out. Would've been better off for everyone, otherwise.

What's Adria's Fault?
Adria killed Eternity v3 - no question. She also killed Eternity v4, probably. You can make an argument that a server is "dying" from the start, but she caused the entire thing to go down for good. We tried to get excited about v4, but it's hard, when people betray you like that, after all that work. Call [personal information removed] to find out more.

Was Karei Using Adria?
Yeah, maybe. She was active, but I got 50 complaints a week about her. I decided to side with her, and tell the players to calm down. Obviously, I was mistaken. I sided with her, and eventually she shut down the server after yelling at me for doing something "without telling her" (something public... I made a decision on donation items, or something - I forget exactly).

Was Eternity v4 ACTUALLY Almost Released?
Yes. However, several key staff members disappeared, and a lot of real-life crap happened. I'm not going to share what that is, because it doesn't relate to me. Press at it, and you'll feel like a gaint a****** if you ever find out.

Then... Why No Eternity v4?
I'm sick of this. Really sick. Jitsu is sick of it. Griffin is sick of it. Steve is sick of me, and when everything happened, we just moved on with our lives. It wasn't planned. We didn't decide to lie to you. It just happened.

But, There Was Hope Again Right?
Yes. Eternity v4 had a second chance... in fact, it still might. But once again, I'm really sick of the game and the community. Even after all of this, there are still accusations of stealing money. Internal politics are frustrating, and stresses everyone out. Overall, it's a thankless job, so it probably won't happen.

Did Karei ACTUALLY steal money?
I'm going to say "No," but you're free to not believe me. Yet, even IF I did take donation money, I had every right to do so. At one point, actually, I asked my staff if they would like to be paid (not for myself) - they said no. Confirm with them if you don't believe me.

I spent an excess of 60 hours a week dealing with EternityRO. I was paid about $27/hour (salaried) at my most recent job. If you work it out, I'd have to have made over $84,000 in a year to make it worthwhile. Do you think we got that many donations? Use some logic here.

If I do it again, will I be paid? Yes, and I wouldn't spend as much time on the server. Will other staff be paid? They will either be paid, or they can select a charity of their choice. Paid staff work harder.

So why this post?
Why not. EternityRO.net is no longer up, since the hosting expired.

Why should we believe you?
I don't really care if you do, but at this moment I don't really have anything to hide. I don't really expect to put up Eternity 4, nor do I plan on playing on another server. My close RO friends already know who I am, and I'm not looking to make new friends. I admit to what I did, and I still say it was the right thing. It's a little better, I'd say, than posting numerous times off-topic, in a thread and making multiple accusations (*cough* adria).

Cheers.

I don't really care if you do, but at this moment I don't really have anything to hide.

Well for all I know, you are using a disposable email for your account activation.  So I do see there is something to hide as far as I am concerned.  Who are you?  IIRC Karei do have an account in this forum since a long time ago there is no need to create a new one if she/he ever need to post.

There is no way for us to contact you with your provided contact so your account will be deleted for that.  Not like you can complain with your disposable email address anyway.  That's what we do for users of disposable emails.

And who's phone # is up there? pm me if someone want it removed.

He created and sold items ( read: enchanted armour, that really good bone helm thing at +6 or something, etc ) with a blacksmith in Prontera. It did not have the Cat- like most of his other characters did.

Just as a note, and my only reply to the BS posted above, I was never once asked if I would like to be paid. Vermillion and Playtester weren't either, I'm sure, nor any of the GMs hired while I was on the staff. I know for an absolute fact, because I had to ask after spending so much time on there and thought I deserved to be paid - I wasn't the best admin, but I still showed up and did my job to the best of my abilities. How much did I want, you say? I would have been happy with $300 a month and the server could definitely afford that with a few hundred at the least ( in some cases, a few thousand ) to spare. Yet someone who was barely present and did not help the staff unless begged paid himself thousands over the course of v3 alone, covering it up with the "advertisement campaign" that so many people were conned into donating for. The server never saw any increase in population, nor did we find any actual proof of advertising being done, because it all went into Karei's pocket instead.

Really mature of you to post an old phone number on a public forum yet again. I thought you were an intelligent boy who knows something about the legality of giving someone's personal information out without their consent. ( Just a hint: it's illegal. )

Hi Jamey <3 I read all the RO anime things you had on your site, they're freakin hilarious. Still playing RO somewhere?

You may have asked the team previous to my hiring, which makes no difference to me at all. There was a huge thread publicly after you refused to pay me, the entire server knew that you had refused and a lot of them supported me in it. I asked about it over the phone and over msn, and no I can't bloody tell you when because unlike some people, I actually move on from my past. I deleted literally everything from my computer, the only reason I posted here was to let "anyone from Eternity" know why their server went down. I'm not holding a grudge over anything, I simply stated the facts for the people who wished to know. I correctly thought that the players of Eternity deserved to know the truth, without any hidden agenda.

Btw, posting text-only does not actually convince anyone. Like I learned on the team, the pure and unadulterated truth is what truly condemns or sets one free. That's why unaltered screenshots were used, whether from the game or from IRC / MSN, to ensure that there could be no doubt in the proof.

I'm done talking with you. You've only shown me that you're still self-absorbed and manipulative, not to mention that you're holding a grudge over something you set in motion. It's been nearly a year, and you're too young to start gathering up past problems to be cranky about once you get older. Get over it already, it's not going to do you any good in the long run to pout over it and act like a child. The only reason I bother with anything involving you at all is because I miss the people from Eternity and had hoped for a V4. I will only post here to address anyone except you or whoever else I don't wish to converse with. ( That's a lesson you should learn too; Have your say, move on, and remember that it is not childish to ignore those who have wronged you once you're not involved with them any longer. )

But you'll never get it anyway, you think something with an apology letter is going to

See how I just pulled off some logos there even though I only term-dropped to elicit emotion? Takes practice

Hi ThirdHeaven/Darcy/konakona/eRO#1usefulguy/ here, first time caller first time listener, doing my bit here for the server to clarify a few things.
Basically, who am I? Kind of a big deal.

Nah just f*** with you, I was just the one guy that fitted into the convenient timezone of being able to co-ordinate between the NA and EU admins/GMs, with this timezone I was able to befriend most of the staff,  and with this befriending I had access to privileged information, and with access to this information came quasi-blackmail responsibility (cf Andy Dufresne), either keep my mouth shut and keep playing court jester in the forums, or be passed off as a conspiracy theorist and get perma-banned across all mediums.

How do you think I outlasted all those trolls?
Alsololbishopmeginorcherov2lastwoe

Most of what Adria tells you and wants you to believe in her award-winning best seller sob story was just a blatant and utter lie, karei told you a conveniently-constructed lie, but now he decided it's time to move on and tell you to truth and admit he was just f*** with you (or at least that's what I'd admit, sweeping the rest of the failures under the rug, but he admits that part too)

Even though we're no longer associated, I saw SteveMcAwesome being mentioned three-paragraphs down in her pastebin story, and immediately felt the unyielding need to defend my fellow man because you can not simply reduce all the hard-work and effort he had commited to developing the server over a simple ad hominem: What, we're going to overlook the countless hours Steve worked on the server because he said you had AIDS and therefore he is a less likeable character than you? Nevermind what prompted him to say that to you to begin with?

Quit playing the victimisation card, you alone brought down v3 and with it any hopes of v4, Griffin, Jitsu, Kargha, Katsuragi, sonnet all put in many hours of work in preparation and v3 was doomed from the beginning with karei promising things that he did not discuss with the dev team. Most of them were sick of him, they did it out of their interest for personal development and love of RO, and then the poor decision on karei's end installing reichsruher Adria only cemented the schadenfreude within those staff.

The utter and ugly truth was, the promise of v3 only coat-tailed the success of v2, which only came to be with only coincidental timing with the fall of ProjectRO. Which ultimately, v1 EternityRO only served as flies to wanton boys as players were to the gods: A no-control perception-bias-laden social experiment for karei.
It was some kind of demented body of work that relies heavily on the effort of others which he is appointed as nominal administrative figurehead; checks in on occasion to make note of landmarks, and then pats himself on the back of this great success and repute which he had utterly no net involvement in whatsoever.

You really think some guy claiming he quadrupled his portfolio in the scary downturn of 2009's fourth quarter as an intern isn't going to be abducted by Wall St at the ransom of a six figure salary? Much less now working on a meager 27 canadian dollars hourly rate?

And I close with another mention to all the previous dev staff,  who were the unsung heroes throughout all of the versions of eternityRO, karei was just some insecure delusional narcissist without any actual accomplishments.

They say in the face of indisputable truth, only do they squirm and pass off a short answer as nonchalance, we observe the same reaction in religious people everytime they sit down to watch a particle science documentary.

I still have that screenshot of you banning me on arbitration and telling me "Hahaha Darcy you nigger" if you want me to help your victim image.

Obviously you've never been in a corporate environment, trust is exactly what gets you preyed upon and taken advantage of, should karei really have trusted you with the server? Oooh got you there didn't I

I'm doing an undergraduate commerce degree in a world-class university, are you really trying to come to terms and rationalize with your pleibeian existance with no tertiary education record, nonexistent work history and no prospectives for job security, and topping it off with non-elective medical necessities -- that you've accomplished in 27 years of your miserable life?

And you do this by making leaps and bounds logic and telling yourself things like that I'm a "child", that I "won't get far in life" because I lack the ability to "trust"? What is this, projection?

I heard you were begging your ex-BF to take you back because you had nowhere to live

I surely hope ad hominems are still kosher seeing how much you try to use it on me (baseless and unsubstantiated too!)

They say (...)

I'm not 27.

Go ahead, post it. I'd like to see it.

I haven't begged anyone for anything in a long time. The only begging I did before was to get Karei to give me some direction on how to run the server and to get him to actually spend some time on it, to show the players that he existed and cared. I'm curious how you would become privy to details about my life, although what you stated is completely false. Let me guess... "it doesn't matter", "someone", "a friend", some other vague answer? Typical useless replies from people either lying or trying to hide the source.

What does your education have to do with your distrust of me and clearly anyone else? You sit there and insult people, but you are nearly incapable of believing what anyone says, from what I've seen. I applaud you for standing up for a friend, but you were clearly mislead if you think I did anything to merit the abuse of someone I was supposed to look for guidance from. I did not speak with or say anything at all about Steve or Vilya before he decided to follow the blatant lies and abuse of people who didn't like me because I didn't act like a whore for them ( people from Nabz ). Did you ever once ask -why- Steve acted like that, or did you blindly believe him? I suppose that's one example of "trust", as obviously mislead and ignorant of any facts it was. Also, I don't believe in blind trust in a corporate environment, but there is a level of it, otherwise nobody would get anything done - they wouldn't have faith that anyone would finish any task, or be reliable in any situation. You trust your professors to instruct and educate you, correct? You trust that the people in charge of major food corporations are going to ensure that your food is safe to eat, right? Not blindly, I hope, but there is still faith in these things.

I have not given you nor anyone else any reason to not trust me, although I did hold back certain things as instructed by my "superior". And the anger shown at Karei that he mentioned above? That was from him going behind my back and adding things that were detrimental to the server, just to make money. I had every right to be upset, since I was the one overseeing the daily activities of the server and making the decisions on what changes to implement. He even admitted to me that he wasn't in touch with the population, and didn't know what they thought and wanted. There was no "60 hours of work a week" even on average, counting all the time from the beginning of V3. Like I said, I literally had to beg him to show up in-game and give me any advice on anything - as the owner, I tried to respect what he wanted for the server without compromising the needs of the population. The players wondered if he was even around anymore, since he never showed any sign of caring about the people left after his massive screw-up.

Although I owned up to my many mistakes, something I am not responsible for was the downfall of V4. I had absolutely nothing to do with it, it wasn't even announced for quite some time afterwards. I deleted one thing, sure - something he obviously had experience replacing, since he ran V1 and V2. Starting over with all new accounts, that's all it took, and was guaranteed with announcing V4. It's a ridiculous claim that has absolutely no basis. I did not ask for my "employer" to give out my personal information on several occasions, and that is not done in the real world either. The quote about not having the right to privacy has a very important part - not "explicitly" guaranteed. That does indeed imply that I do have rights to my privacy. Not convinced? Ask Rupert Murdoch if he was in the right to invade other people's privacy. ( Hint: he wasn't. ) I also did not ask nor deserve to be blamed for any of the bans that happened after the rollback that Karei chose to do after I left - in fact, I helped someone else ban the person responsible, as I had no access ( my Eternity got screwed up after installing a new server's stuff in that folder several days before ). The proof was posted on the forum. I believe it was Katsuragi who accused me of that and other things, which was out of jealousy at not being chosen to be the Administrator after all the others left. I asked Karei specifically about Kats being "nominated" by the rest of the GMs, and he stated that Kats was incompetent and he did not trust him to be Admin.
I didn't ever state my medical issues as a way to get pity, and I despise anyone who does that. I only ever gave it as a reason for possibly not being able to do my job, and never for any incompetence. It was a factor in some of my mislead and wrong decisions, but the rest were simply because I was never qualified to be an Admin. I told Karei this right away, and I let him know on several occasions that I couldn't handle the stress. Not everyone is capable of being in an administrative position, and that is not a weakness. Everyone has their own talents, and that one was obviously not mine. Should I have quit? Yes, and I did more than once so I could gather myself and try again, for the players. I did not have any chance to refuse, as I was not officially an Administrator until a few months after being given access to the database and increased in-game powers. How this sounds to you like I'm trying to be a victim is beyond me. A victim does not take responsibility for their actions nor admits to any mistakes that may have led to whatever violation occurred. They place blame on others exclusively.

Funny enough, I would have liked you if you hadn't acted like a trolling d-bag due to your misguided hatred ( dislike, or whatever you thought of me ). I noticed that you never tried to give me the benefit of the doubt nor got to know me even a little. That's why so many people blindly hated me, and the people who did get to know me actually liked me. I'm not a mean or cruel person by nature, I'm simply hotheaded at times and I already admitted publicly to it. I intensely respect intelligence in others, whether it's from education learned in an institution or not, but not when the person has a repulsive personality. Am I less intelligent because I express my thoughts in plain English, or because I haven't had a post-secondary education? No, and I'm sure that you're aware of that not just in me but in other people as well. I don't think that you're an imbecile just because you've acted like an utter asshat to me ( and others ). I don't know what you're like in person, but somehow I suspect that you're nothing like the persona you hide behind online. Don't worry about disputing that, it's okay if you want to keep up your "reputation".

Well, he owned the server. He offered his staff compensation, and they denied it. That does not mean that he cannot compensate himself when he is undoubtedly his own boss. Who regulates whether he should be compensated or not except him personally?

v4 would be a nice server to spend some time.

BR < French players < Morroc and all others mvps in the game, maybe not against GTB cause it's not aggressive (but has Reflect, so that's what I'm afraid of)!

Interesting to see what happened to the server...  Never knew about the supposed corruption and stuff, but I guess it is a moot point now.

I will say that I do vaguely recall never seeing Karei, but that isn't saying much as my memory could be faulty.  I am pretty sure I stopped playing not too long after v3 started.  The restart kinda burnt me out from playing back then...  Also, I was probably feeling the effects of as then undaignosed medical issues...  When did v3 start again?  Been so long I can't really remember exactly when I left in terms of month and year...  Huh, still had an eRO directory on the puter...  Screenshots all date from late 09, may be pre-v3 but still a fairly long time ago, wow.

Still interesting to read familiar names...  Ahh, nostalgia.  Well I'm on SaiphRO now (again, for now) until I disappear again: Wisp

It upsets me to read all that but it does not change that was very enterteining this epoch in my life. Man i hoped the v.4 wouldv happened. I could care less what happened in the past the only thing that matters is what's happening now. There is no good servers atm not even decent one's i find all the new games too easy, tried to start several diff game's but can't really get passionate about them. I never really cared for few created item's since i have the time to put effort in the game and hunt tier gears for myself ultimately it's skill which matters. Todays games are already to easy so i can't see the point of ruining the game experience for yourself by buying/spawning gears but if you like it that way i still couldn't care less if i didnt know about it. Only thing id care for is decent server mechanics, population active GM's. Playing games is about having fun and enjoying it but i guess ppl can't even remember the basics anymore. *sadface* Karei hear my wish and open the V.4 and forget what happened in the past and just show boot to the incompetent staff members. btw Yc cheers from old LunarisRO BE members <3 Samui and Roze!

I've stumbled on a lot of ero players on Talonro

You should check it out, it's highly active and the woe is too.  It feels like a high rate with all the stuff they have on that server, but its still low rate.

If you are not a fan of the mvp cards that are purchasable via donations bc you're a woe player, they have a woe called "restricted woe" where they don't allow for those mvp cards and super quest items to be used.  But if you are looking to go all out, they have unrestricted woe too. (woe x3/week)

You can change into any class when you trans, so it makes creating a creo/ws even easier for those of you not wanting to slow grind again or leech.  Plus, the repeatable quest are to lvl 99, and they have options/mini quests to help you power level.

Best of luck to you all.  I'm using the same names with all of my characters, so you know how to find me!

It doesn't have to be reported.  Google must have detected it is serving unsafe content or the IP/webhost is doing that.  Don't know which is the case but I got same warning and don't want to step closer.

Well, actually Karei replaced the website with the text "We are sorting out this mess", so he still must be around to have noticed this.

Karei is kinda difficult and hard to understand because he is mainly a businessman and not someone that cares much about Ragnarok Online (or is very good at programming). On the other hand his strong will to make money out of his projects is exactly what makes him good. He always cares about his servers unlike many other server owners who just launch it and then stop caring. He still needs good and reliable developers (paid) and this is actually the main reason why he closed the servers and didn't open v4 yet. He won't start anything until he is 99% sure his project will be a success.

On-topic: eROv2 was best. :-)

I'm a little bit puzzled about the situation with EternityRO.
I understand some of the developers/gm decided to back off from the project and I understand that Karei can't pull it off by himself.
He must have lots of stuff to do with school, real life etc.

I don't believe that Karei had some kind of school project about showing how easy it is to mislead people.
Let's say that i'm trying to sell you a car. You are gonna buy it.. Suddenly I stop making contact to you and you'll never hear about the car again.
That doesn't proove anything. That's just stupid.

I don't have any expectations of EternityRO anymore. Slowly my interest in RO has been fading anyway.
If Somehow EternityRO opens , I'll go there and try, but I'm not waiting for it anymore.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Jan 09, 2013, 06:28 AM
Well Karei isn't a developer at all, he is a marketing person. He studied marketing tactics and all that. That's also his "school project" that people talked about. He made an analysis on how to get lots of players on a private server with the use of various psychological tricks as his thesis. It was a pretty good read, nothing like "Hahaha I fooled you all", Karei is pretty smart actually when it comes to marketing, but as long as he doesn't have competent developer that execute his masterplans, he can't do much.

You can call Karei is good at "marketing", I just call that "manipulating".  Yes he's good with playing with people's mind, make them do things to his advantage.  Maybe he don't like me because I am not one of his audience.  If my memory is still serving me right, I still have this impression of him writing paragraphs after paragraphs in our email exchange.  Many of the writings are meaningless and "feelingless" to me (or at my position) but in the end he just try to tell me to do things that benefits him.  I could easily write paragraphs and paragraphs to counter his paragraphs.  I think Riotblade (he worked with Karei at one point) once said we are the same kind of person and that's why we don't get along at all.

It's like if you are his players, they he's your team leader and you'll listen to him invite friend / donate / vote etc all he has to do is to talk like it is "necessary".  In my case, I am not his player.  It is not "necessary" for me to do anything for him under any situation.  Then he became the insurance salesman and I have to stay defensive.

That's as simple as I can explain it.  Nothing personal, he's good at talking I'll give him that.

HuiJun?  Haven't hear from you in years?  Anyway, I think it was paradise ro (with JJJ being the pink novice sitting in Prontera) that I leeched you? I don't recall playing on Eternity at all.

Playtester, you do sound like driving people to leviathanro ... is that server related to the old eternity staff team?
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Jan 21, 2013, 05:05 PM
Well, I'm not really related to that server, but the server owner is an old eRO player and he kinda wanted to make a server just like eRO and he sure has a lot of potential since he's good at programming and stuff. And there are currently no real close-to-official servers except 1x rate servers, pre 2-1 servers or 5+ year old servers with good staff, so I'm kinda curious on how that'll evolve and think it was worth mentioning.

Being good at marketing means being good at manipulating, doesn't it? How do you want to get 5000 players on your server without using unfair tricks?

It looks like he dumped his old server to make that one, and is now making big changes after a month because the turnout wasn't what he had hoped for... I don't really see any potential there :/
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Jan 22, 2013, 03:58 AM
Actually it's pretty much what he expected already. His goal is to have a close-to-official RO server with is slightly higher rates than official servers and a few convenience changes without any gamebreaking customs and he accepted to sacrifice all the mid-rate / custom players for it. He is also in contact with the guild leaders from EternityRO, though they kinda want him to wipe he fears of losing reputation from doing so (since he actually wants to create a never-wipe server).

I kinda hope it works out, because right now there are really no low rate server with good staff and a no-customs policy (for which I really liked EternityROv2 to stay on-topic) except iROnic which is 1x rates. With the changeover he pretty much offers what nobody else offers and that's be pretty neat. Would just need players then.

Edit: He decided to wipe after all to get bigger guilds to join.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Thoth on Feb 21, 2013, 08:53 PM
He always cares about his servers unlike many other server owners who just launch it and then stop caring. He still needs good and reliable developers (paid) and this is actually the main reason why he closed the servers and didn't open v4 yet. He won't start anything until he is 99% sure his project will be a success.

if only he were that calculating. the drama that killed v3 was just another example of GM egomania, fueled by @items on his "legit" woe characters. a stupid move, but people do stupid things when high on power. especially when they think they can get away with it.
the server didn't close for a few months after that, but it was more undead than alive during that time.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Feb 22, 2013, 03:41 AM
Actually it wasn't quite like that.

He created items with @item on a merchant and then put them on vending. He did that because one guild was dominating due to having stronger equips while the other guilds had problems even getting those items. He did that to balance WoE.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Thoth on Feb 22, 2013, 01:51 PM
it was like that. when karei's prof didnt die in woe because he was wearing aesprika and junk, other gms investigated, all hell broke loose, everyone threw the hate on karei, and the major woe guilds all left the server.
far less calculating than the @item availability scheme (item rarity is truly poisonous to a server)
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: wireless on Feb 22, 2013, 02:32 PM
Amnesia and Sinergy had already left the server before that stuff with the prof. I think that was Karei's attempt to make that guild stronger to give the others more competition so they wouldn't leave too, but the players weren't as dumb as he thought.

yeah.
what you gotta do if possible is try to make it so that manual corrections aren't needed in the first place...
have forced transparency on the "legit" accounts of gms, or maybe just everyone (everyone can view the items you are wearing)
and avoid having anything on server with mvp card level RARITY or power

I'm pretty sure the people from EternityRO that are still playing are all pretty much on PureRO, but they are using mostly different names, especially the famous ones. Sachi, Fluorite, Griever and Lazzy are all pretty well known, though.

On EvolveRO are the people from the Eternity guild, which doesn't really have much to do with the server except for the same name. =p

Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?

I would disagree, there is hardly any low rate server that tries to stay close to official. Name me one other pre-renewal trans server that has no custom spawn modifications, no job changer, no dungeon warper and no custom equips (not even any renewal equips) that has more than 200 players.

All the other currently successful low rate servers are all highly customized like TalonRO and HeRO.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?

We're not talking about successful servers.  I'm just saying I've seen these servers pop up plenty of times, they just don't tend to last very long to notice them.

purero has default mvp cards at 1x rates. if it survives long enough, it will die the instant someone gets gtb card
people should not copy eternityro but learn from it...
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Apr 06, 2013, 04:33 AM
I don't think a single person having an MVP card will be a huge problem. GTB card also means that you can't be buffed or healed and you are probably pretty weak to physical attacks and status changes.

Also EternityRO didn't die because someone got a GTB card. The last time it died it was because of a staff member going a bit psycho.

Thoth, you are indicating that any server that actually has MVP cards will die once they drop. Are you indicating that to host a successful server, the cards should be removed from drops altogether? I wouldn't actually mind that honestly.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Elin on Apr 09, 2013, 08:47 AM
There are some former players from EternityRO that are gonna join EvolveRO (myself included).

By the way, saying that the server pretty much died when Sachi decided to go full mad is s***. I remember how things started to deteriorate when Amnesia + Sinergy left the server, and then a big part from the WoE community was enraged when Karei's "tweaks" went public. It wasn't so much about how he tried to regulate the economy, but by the crap he did with his WoE professor. That's not some minor manual change, it was very heavy. I don't remember who I was playing with (I think after Amnesia left I went with 3 other people to One Night Stand), but I remember very well that 2 or 3 guilds altogether were targetting Karei's professor (ofc no one knew it was him) who was potting Cold Medicine (which was not obtainable in the game, as you probably remember) and equipping gears with +4 (!) stat enchantement. When he realized the players weren't as dumb as he thought he closed the forums, posted some charts trying to make people believe his character was legit, etc.
Then Sachi came. While the server was only living from some events, Failboat and mostly pvm players, it "lasted" some months until s*** hit the fan.

Playtester, I don't think you ever participated in competitive WoE. If you didn't, please don't give an opinion about "manual corrections" in WoE.

One reason which quickly brings private low rate servers to die is that the admins and developers think they have an idea of the metagame, when in reality they are lacking it due to never having participated in competitive WoE. I don't judge anyone that plays for the casual, the social or even the hat collector (lol) aspects of the game, but every staff should have at least one person that is not only developer but also actually knows how the metagame works.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Apr 09, 2013, 09:31 AM
EternityROv3 survived for over a good year after those events, though.

I have no idea about WoE or PVP myself, but I've read Karei's explanations on it and they seemed reasonable to me. Also I think Karei knows a lot about WoE since he did a lot adjustments to it that were very welcome by players.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Elin on Apr 09, 2013, 10:26 AM
Yeah sure, you can say "lasted", but most of the players had already left. Of course there was still some thing going on with the pvm community, but from what I remember it wasn't that relevant anymore after a few months. It's a blurry term in my opinion, but I guess for the people that were still there the server wasn't "dead".

I have no idea about WoE or PVP myself, but I've read Karei's explanations on it and they seemed reasonable to me.
Well, that's the problem, they weren't reasonable. I'm not making this up. He tried to justify the survival of his professor with VIT/AD charts and some rough builds. When players still didn't believe him and Steve checked his logs, there was the stuff I already listed and probably more. He lied to the players and treated them like a bunch of stupid people.

Also I think Karei knows a lot about WoE since he did a lot adjustments to it that were very welcome by players.
Please refresh my memory because I can't remember any specific WoE adjustements that were welcome, except for offering BG consumables for WoE/PvP and increasing the drop rate of relevant cards and we know what that led to.

PS: I'm not saying Karei didn't know s*** of the metagame, otherwise he wouldn't have tried to do what he did. I'm saying that the vast majority of p-servers (I can only speak for low rates, since it's what I mostly played) out there are led by people that lack that background/knowledge.
Title: Re: Anyone from EternityRO?
Post by: Playtester on Apr 09, 2013, 12:02 PM
Honestly, I didn't even play before that event occured, I joined in later. But for me that server had a stable 300-500 people population, many people loving to party up and two rivaling guilds fighting each other in every WoE. It was quite nice for me.

With Karei's decision on PVP I meant: Updated treasure box drops, BG consumables, HP modifications of all BG/WoE units (cades, emp, storages) to make them more balanced, etc.
I think all those were really welcome by everyone.

And yeah, Karei thinks everyone is stupid and he even writes books about it, and still, he both had the skill to accumulate a high playerbase that ended up with a stable 300~500 population even after the "magical first three months" and the skill to do some quite high-level adjustments (improved Harmony protection). Also he really knew well how to handle SVN, he designed the whole system so that he could get all the latest SVN updates without much additional work.

Certainly he isn't really all that great, but I still hardly see admins of which I really feel they actually can handle a server further than just checking out SVN from rA and then compiling and double-clicking the executable.

Such changes are cookie cutter. Bar Emperium/Cade HP, about every server out there modifies treasure boxes, as they're quite worthless otherwise.

Thoth, you are indicating that any server that actually has MVP cards will die once they drop. Are you indicating that to host a successful server, the cards should be removed from drops altogether? I wouldn't actually mind that honestly.
yeah.
its not just the power of mvp cards that makes them poisonous- indeed half of them aren't that powerful at all. its also the rarity. if you have just power, then someone can compete with you by getting the same stupidly powerful item and going at your face to face. but with extreme rarity, they have to camp an mvp for months to do that... who the hell wants to do that? better just to find a server that doesn't have the mvp card! then the ones who have the cards are kings of a wasteland.
and then theres junk like gtb, which is so outrageous plenty of servers only have only disabled this one card.

I'm saying that you either have to completely remove the mvp cards, or greatly increase card drop while nerfing them to be only barely more desireable than regular cards (or an alternative to them). people will do alot for a 1% increase in power. the second option requires you understand game balance though and is alot more work.

EternityRO was the last private server with 5000 actual players after all. :p

And I kinda disagree that Karei ruined the server. He was more the "Secretly give out rare MVP items to weaker guilds so WoE stays balanced and guilds don't quit" type of guy. Sure he only cared about money, but that also made him really good at marketing. Even though he was lazy as hell, he managed to get 5000 people together on the same server. He could delegate tasks pretty well and knew exactly when a decision was so important that he had to intervene. He's not a person you should trust, but in regards of hosting a RO server, I'd rather say he made it a success rather than that he ruined it.

EternityRO was the last private server with 5000 actual players after all. :p

Truuu. I actually read through this a while ago, but didn't reply until now. Playtester do you actually play on iRO right now and if so is it classic? Also, does anybody know what Nabz is up to these days? Did they like disban or what?

I don't really follow guilds, so no idea. Though you encounter the same guilds all the time if you follow the low rate servers with high population.

I played on iRO classic after EternityRO but don't play anymore at all now.

That is true. I actually ran into a guild from EternityRO on ggRO years later.

Just curious, but why don't you play iRO classic anymore? I know pserver players are usually anti-iRO, but I have to ask.

Well for example the lack of a "main" chat is a big problem. And that 90% of the population is just bots. In fact you only find a real player on the server every few weeks...
Also as it uses the old pre-renewal client it misses a lot of convenient features.

Damn, too bad pre-renewal servers don't get big anymore and even the few that do get big either lose its population after the hype or just shut down.

What kind of features?

Well all the chat features for example. Quest log. World map.

Indeed. A lot of people moved to Retail RO or Tree of Savior. I remember all the good times I had playing v2 and v3.

I'm about to move to retail RO myself... Tired of starting over again and again and again on these low rate private servers.

It's too bad about EternityRO I ended up just waiting for a new server to come out that just opened. Tree of Savior was pretty bad. And lag on iro classic is terrible /omg. ;~;

Eternity RO will never happen at this point. It's better to play on the official server instead. <3

There is only one decent server - free-ro. It exists for 10 years. Active zealous administrator, stable content, confidence that the server will live 100 years, and 0 donates. Donat is not at all lol.

Of course, the server also has negative sides. Having played a lot on one-day servers, I have a family, children, I can not play as actively as I used to, so free-ro are my choice.

I just made my own server. Tired of ps hopping, so a few people from EternityRO helped me out!
