Which trio wins RO?

Me and two friends are looking to get back into Ragnarok again on a 99/70 server. I've been somewhat stressing over what jobs we should all be. I want a well balanced group that can take just about anything on, including MVPs if possible.

I'm fairly sure that one of my friends will be filling the role of a support Priest. What, in your opinion, is the best combination of jobs to fit my criteria? Thanks muchly!

The jobs I'm most interested in as of this moment are as follows (just me, not my friends' job choices):

1. Thrasher / Combo Champion (Not really sure how this might do end-game against MVPs, especially if no tank is available--but they're super fun to play)
2. Lord Knight
3. Paladin

Any extra info 'tords those class that may encourage me down that road would be appreciated. I'm especially interested in jobs that have a solo capability, for when I need to farm cards and equipment.

I'm fond of...

1. LK / Sniper / HP - Basic tank and spank for lower tier MVPs.  LK with racial Stone Buckler/Odin's Blessing/Magni's Cap set and Assump is a decent tank.  Sniper needs some consumables to keep SP up.  Some SP reduction gear helps also.  *Effectiveness of this group is moderately increased with a clown.

2. Prof / Sniper / HP - Reduces the Sniper's dependence on consumables by keeping a Professor nearby.  Prof can play a tank role if necessary.  *Effectiveness of this group is greatly increased with a clown.

...or if your server has a healer NPC...

3. Champ / Clown / HP - Bragi Clown, HP Lex, Champ Asura, Heal NPC, Rinse, and Repeat.

Well for one combo champions are not reliable for MvPing, you might aswell asura..
Keep in mind that after every 'combo' your spirits are wasted and you need to recast them, that mixed with tanking the MvPing is really not efficient.

3 people can do a lot more than the 3 classes you suggested.. paladin is good for devo and tanking, but LK and Combo champs can be replaced with other more suitable ones.

IMO, the classes you should be focusing on:

Priest obv
Whitesmith
Sniper
Biochemist
Star glad
Paladin
Asura champ
Lord Knight (but outclassed by most of the other classes)
Prof (web mobs, swall.. etc)

Your main DPS is either WS or Biochem, sniper can take on quite a few MvP's too, Star glad with a swalltank can down a few too.
Paladin, priest, LK, prof are all tanks.. the reason LK is a tank is because of his high HP mod, and whatnot.. can also parry and BB while he's at it.

I guess I should ask if it's possible to MVP without a tank...otherwise, I'd be obligated to fill in that role.

Given that, which jobs would be the best choices for tanking while at the same time, right for soloing?

You have to tank an MvP or else it teleports away (rude attack), you don't always have to get damaged when tanking.. because there's safety-wall tanking.

Potting and taking hits generally does the trick for most MvPs.. here's a vid:

and solo'ing in what sense? MvP, PvM?
 IMO it's Sniper/LK/WS/Biochem if you don't want to respawn.

Soloing as in general PvM...out collecting and farming equipment and cards n' whatnot. The Creator does intrigue me all the sudden, though. My friend considering going High Priest (again) was once really good at a Whitesmith.

So questions: for MvPing, a Whitesmith / Creator / High Priest (or Lord Knight). Would that be viable?
And Lord Knights...they tank well compared to Paladin, right? I just kinda prefer Lord Knights over Pallies. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

WS/Sniper, they're the fastest hands down.., WS's capacity and strong solid attacks (Mammo/CT) allows you to farm the more harder monsters. If you manage to earn more than you spend.. you'll probably earn a lot more.

Sniper for speed, ds/charge or regular attacks coupled with @autoloot is win. No autoloot and they're still fast though.

For the mvp stuff..
It's viable, but it also depends on which MvP you're trying to take down. Don't expect to be hammering down on major stuff like bio3/Thanatos/whatnot since they require quite some strategy and practice.
Paladin is favored because of devote, guard.. good at tanking ranged, etc. But LK should be able to pull it off, watch some doddler MvP vids, I believe there's some good examples there where he tanks MvP's using his LK.

About LK, they're not top at anything, but their advantage is they are quite good at almost anything. In a small party, he's excellent, can tank a lot and deal some damage too. Give him water and wind armors so he can tank high level waterball and JT that some MvPs use, and he'll be able to tank pretty much anything except EQ and high-end MvPs like beelze.

The second char should be some good damagedealer. I'd go for sniper probably.

Viable, but expensive(HSCR, bombs) and leaves you with no crowd control. On the other hand, you might be able to Bio3 with this party.

And Lord Knights...they tank well compared to Paladin, right?

100VIT LK is THE tank of RO.

All in all, I'll second Sarin. Some MvPs have AGI UP skill, after which they become pretty much impossible to hit. That leaves you with either magic or Snipers, and MvPs tend to have higher Mdef.

Additionally LK will be able to solo all the low-level MvPs easily on his own.

You can just wait the agi up skill out, since it's only tops a minute or something...

btw, whitesmith isn't THAT expensive, especially if it's PvM. You can probably one-shot loads of med-high def/vit monsters with good drops and pretty much end up with more profit.

Crowd control.., I don't know, there's a lot less emphasis on that aspect if it's about MvPing, tanking is really key.

Well, one thing why I say LK is actually PvM. If you want to farm easier monsters, LK is the master with his mobbing abilities.

The party is small, you need multirole char there, specialists like WS aren't good for that.

I [We?] use LKs as tanks because of the gear choices ( like the Stone Buckler Combo Bonus ), obvious Vit mod, and because a Pally can't Devotion another Pally.

A Mental Strength Champ has to worry about his skill duration all the time. :[
