One of many private servers im playing is going to shut down soon. Among many reasons given is because
the owner thinks RO Mobile will kill it anyway.

Comment?

Edit: it seems from the reply that many are not aware that there is one company from China is developing the Ragnarok Mobile. This game is said to preserve the original features as much as possible.

Some news and video trailer below:

it might kills some server but some players who still loves playing old RO will choose to play on some guaranteed private servers. even my country going to release new official server.

StriderHiryuu

Maybe, but in my opinion, Ragnarok is best played in Computer rather than in Mobile. I never enjoyed playing mobile games

to tell you the truth im not quiet sure in my opinion RO mobil is a good idea specialy for those who love ragnarok but because of life ( work/school family and other stuff) dont have much time to sit at a computer playing RO now if the mobile version would be crossplatform ( aka same server as the computer version as in i stop playing on the computer log off and head out and log back in on my fone while riding the bus or train or whatever would be awesome and if im not mistaken chaosRO has already started doing something like that

i think he is talking about RO mobile like RO path of heroes etc. not the RO1 with mobile platform version. that RO1 mobile platform version is a good idea but i dont think u can do much things with it. i tried their browser version and it really not recommended to go farming.

It also probably gonna attract new people about Ragnarok, and new people that really curious about Ragnarok will look more and perhaps they might actually interested to try some privater server on pc/client

RO Mobile looks great from the clips I watched but those of us that played RO on desktop for many years wouldn't be so interested in switching to it.  At least for me I can't look at a mobile device for hours so that 1x~5x farming life and leveling is out of the question.  I believe everything will go fast in mobile just like other time killer mobile games which I am afraid doesn't offer much to explorer compare to the original RO.

Im joining the closed beta test today. They will open it for open beta test this 19th January. So far, it looks promising other than language issue (it is in Chinese language). Luckily, there already good people who works on english translation. If this become successful, I think this will be the real reborn of RO after the failure of RO2 and ToS.

Regarding the playability on PC, im using Nox (android emulator for PC) and everything run smoothly. I even can custom the keys so no issue eventhough the game is originally designed to be played on touchscreen. So I dont think PC player would have anything to complaint. Here are some pics.

remind me of ToS, people hype for nothing and after realize ToS sux.. most people end up playing old school RO again..anyway IMO mobile game is 100 time more vulnerable to hack and bot than PC game with guard protection of coz..BOT/HACK will totaly destroy the gameplay and this what happen to Pokemon GO now..

i played it for a few days to see what its like and to tell you the truth i liked it i would love to see a crossplatform server where players on mobile and interact with players on the pc and vise versa prob not good for farming or pvp/mvp but for those who love playing ragnarok but dont have the time to level up could use this while riding the train to work or like me who cant JUST fall a sleep i play on the fone for about an hour or two before i can actualy fall asleep but if i was to play it on pc id never fall asleep and thats just crazy xD

i played it on a s*** samsung galaxy s4 mini and it worked well ( s*** i mean hardware has been damaged and its extremely slow and laggy) but players on a taplet could take it so much further

DontPingMe

Assuming it will only be available for Android, probably not.
As mentioned previously, it's going to be another poorly managed hype train that will restrict foreigners from accessing.

Xarale

As appealing and awesome as it looks, I personally can't see myself dedicating much time to an RO mobile game.

Besides, how easy will it be to access/play outside of China?

I can't see it killing any private servers imo.

Neffletics

I've tried it, I like it but I do not find it addicting (or maybe it's just me). It will attract new people if advertised properly, referring to players with zero Ragnarok knowledge. I haven't checked the cash shop but I am assuming that it's going to be a very cash extensive game.

tl;dr It's good but as an old guy who doesn't enjoy mobile games and who's used to the Ragnarok PC Game, I don't find it addictive. So people with the same perspective like mine will still end up playing RO1 after few months in the mobile game.

Menace2Society

Lol, no this ripoff junk will not kill off RO and anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. Just look at how big a failure RO2 and ToS are and those are newer engine PC games. Mobile games are severely limited and will never beat a mouse and keyboard PC game.

Ashes Leonhearin

I don't think any mobile game can kill PC games, simply 'cos they are 2 different worlds.
Anyway this RO Mobile seems to be cool! Any info about release date?

Mrew2

Mobile game looks ugly and simplistic in a bad way. Sounds like another RO2. Not really sure why people are hyped for it.

Lai

hi :)

No the mobile game will not kill private servers.
Just like mobile games didnt kill PC games, its different platform, different feel, etc.
When something is different, its hard to compare.

It would be a good question to ask, did the NEW mobile RO kill other RO related mobile games.

I played this new RO mobile, and tbh....its good, but still i stopped playing because, it didnt give me the feel.
Also its a battery killer, which really sucks....
oh, and Alot of automatic stuff, and "just like World of warcraft, very guided and link". Not as much freedome as PC Ragnarok.

Eixip

I can't imagine it will kill private servers, like someone said earlier its kind of two different worlds.  It does look nice though. Im also a big fan of gimmicks though lol.

Aleiah

Mobile RO and PC RO are two different things. I don't think it will affect private servers.

Kyo-Kusanagi-aka-GuessWho

ro mobile will nor kill all private servers or official ro servers but sure many RO people/player will switch to ro mobile. thats for sure.

if ro Mobile would be for PC, it good become a serious RO1 killer.
But I am sure that there will be always some good amount of RO servers
Ragnarok Online Player since the very Beta. I'm still in love with the game.

Tea_Pls

I played it, and the only thing I liked about it were the new graphics. I don't think it will take players away from private servers, as they're two entirely different games.

rubie123

The graphics are super cute, however nothing can touch the original Ro~ /ho

As the OP, I think the question is TRUE, well at least for me. I did abandoned my private server RO since I played the mobile a month ago. Its not a 100% copy of original RO, more like an innovated version of it. I think its owner bigger aim is to create a perfect MMO. It has many features of modern MMO, but in the same time they tried to be loyal to the original RO.

Just want to share few features of it that I think wouldnt make it just another train hype:

1) It allows bot but still freaking hard to level - many automation. you can autoattack, item is autoloot (need to be near to loots, tho), can set up what skills to use, can target what monster to attack (one type only, or kill all), if play in party, can opt to protect party members, can set buff (no autopots tho), autofollow, basically if you got yourself a powerful PC that can open multiple Android emulators (the game eat a lot of resources, mind you), then you can create a full party and play by yourself.

BUT, there is a catch. They implemented this stamina system, which will limit your daily grinding. When your char used the stamina to its limit, the EXP and drop rates will be dropping very low. Even with the auto features, it is still freaking hard (relatively) for you to level and farm items. Took me about a week to change to an assasin from a thief, and now stuck at 50-ish plateau. Barely able to up a level a day once youve reached 55.

Ive played ToS before, and this RO Mobile has few similarities, among other things is it has story quest that u have to follow. Every char u create has to follow the story. This what makes my ToS experience sucks, because when I create new char, I have to start all over again but in RO Mobile, the auto features make it bearable. I have 4 active chars now lol.

2) So far, no loophole for RMT
To avoid RMT, they dont implement any direct one-to-one trade. You can only sell and buy via auction NPC. Even that, you wont be able to choose from whom you want to buy. The price of loots is fluctuating by this supply and demand concept (Im not really sure how they decide the price, but it is automatic). Every time you are buying, it will automatically choose from the cheapest available. You can only see the buyers'/sellers' ID after the transaction finished. So far, the only way I think one can make money from real trade is by selling their ID. But as to level a char is relatively hard and time consuming, I dont think it is worth it.

The only downside thing IMO is the language barrier. But I take that with a grain of salt. I used to play RO (or many other games) as a kid who dont know how to speak English and it is not an issue back then. Why should it be now. I can use Google Translate apps anyway. Many English guides are already created by players all over the world.

I do think this RO mobile will not just be another hype train. At least for me. For time being.

Kyo-Kusanagi-aka-GuessWho

Which private server you played is going to shut down because of RO Mobile?
Btw. is it open beta? Is it region locked?
Ragnarok Online Player since the very Beta. I'm still in love with the game.

robin_alifai

1) the server in question is AndzRO. Im not sure whether it really closed or not since i abandoned it when the GM announce he will close it.
2) it's in open beta phase now
3) no region lock, just the language is in Chinese. For iOS however need to change Apple ID location to China before can download it on Applestore.
