Thanatos
« on: Jan 18, 2009, 11:01 pm »
I've never really hunted a Thanatos card because of it's ambiguous description: Deals more damage depending on the target's defense.
Drain 1 SP from its owner on each attack.
DEF - 30, Flee Rate - 30

Besides the slight drawback of defense and fleerate, it also depends on the target's defense. Is this including armor and vit. defense? If so, at times, Thanatos can hit below what you usually hit (in terms of dmg - damage).

In what cases does this occur? When the enemy has 0 def or low defense [and if they have low defense, how low exactly?]

If you need server information, I'm 255/120 with ASPD of 196.

Thanks a bunch.

Thanatos card works with the "Auger" effect which does more damage based on enemies VIT:

Thanatos Card:
{ bonus bDefRatioAtkRace,RC_Boss; bonus bDefRatioAtkRace,RC_NonBoss; bonus bSPDrainValue,-1; bonus bDef,-30; bonus bFlee,-30; },{},{}

Ice Pick:
{ bonus bDefRatioAtkRace,RC_Boss; bonus bDefRatioAtkRace,RC_NonBoss; },{},{}

So yes, if they have less VIT, you will be expecting to do less damage to the player.

If you use that card, then it will slaughter, since most people on a 255/100 server basically need high vit to survive.

Both answers don't help at all. Very vague and lacks concise precision.

Mostly because 1. Beserk = Thanatos is useless and I can guarantee Beserk is common.
Tao Gunka raises vit and removes def by 50.

Gunslinger? Almost no vit.
Star Glads and Ninja? Almost no vit.

as for Pow: I know if they have less vit, thanatos will do less damage. It's deduced by the description in the card since the variable is of the defense of the enemy. You use the term "less", however, in comparison to what? Less vit than...?
You leave me baffled.

My original question, clarified, is this: If I am doing say: 1.5k per hit on a user and I switch to a weapon with thanatos, what are the chances that I will do less than 1.5? If the user has 0 def, or even at say 40 def or something of the sort

Please provide elaborate replies.

Pow, I am pretty sure ice pick is affected by hard def(equipment) only...?

The general rule of thumb for using an Ice Pick over a 4 slot weapon is around 40 DEF. However, Thanatos Card can easily fit into one of those weapons, so you're only sacrificing about 21% for your defense piercing rather than 85%. I'm guessing you'll be fine for anyone above 25 DEF, but this depends on what you're using to hit that 1.5k damage.

You're probably pitching this question to the wrong audience. I don't think you're going to find answers with the concise precision you're looking for here on RMS forums, a hub of players from extremely different RO backgrounds. If you're looking for that kind of exact detailed information, you need to be testing it on your server with a friend (or a dual-client), a stat reset, and a variety of DEF equipment.

Hm, I suppose you're right. RMS' greatest quality is it's hindrance.

In any case, I'll use the dev. server to test things out. Do you have a parameter in which I can abide to to get some result of what I am looking for?

Oh right, does ice pick and Thanatos stack? If so, how would the addition work?

Does it just double?

They don't stack, according to a friend of mine. She's an assassin player mainly, she said it was a waste of time and money to do.

I always thought it uses Vit Def too, like Occult Impaction does.

Tao Gunka raises vit and removes def by 50.
Tao Gunka raises HP, not Vit. And it removes Armor Def, not Vit Def.

Afraid of TG? Unless there are multi slotted armors, you shouldn't be.

Nah, I have triple TG, but if Thanatos does substantial damage, then I'll add a Thanatos in there.

In any case, now I'm confused about the def. Does armor def = direct reduction or a percentage? Can someone give me a brief explanation?

Normally, Armor DEF is reduction by percentage, and then VIT DEF is subtracted. Combat Knife/Incantation Samurai ignore that step, while Ice Pick/Thanatos use a different formula altogether.

The problem here is High rate servers. Because everyone has sick stats the balance gets messy. So there isnt any good weapon anymore because people will just take another build against it.
