Whats your opinion on social guilds?

A good bit of RO's Poppulation loves WoE, and loves pvp but i've seen guilds come up that don't do either, they just sit around chat all day....

Some do random mvp parties and find themselves dying to incant samurai because they didn't train /swt.

I don't see the uses of social guilds but I WoE so I guess im Biased.........

What do you all think?

There's some crazy idea floating around that the only way to enjoy RO is to PvP or WoE.  I think what's important to keep in mind is that everyone has their own style of playing, and not everyone wants to force a game to take up certain hours of their week.  Perhaps they don't have time to be properly geared for WoE, or perhaps it's just not an interesting concept to them.

Social guilds are just more relaxed and there's no real pressure to level or improve in any way.  Instead of looking for a team to fight with, they want friends to chat with.  Personally, I've had more fun in social guilds than WoE/PvP guilds, since the guild chat is always busy with some random conversation I can read while leveling, and the atmosphere is generally "nicer" than the serious-as-hell WoE guilds.

Some players just don't want to be "hardcore".  There's nothing wrong with that, and guilds for people to play comfortably and at their own pace certainly isn't "useless".

To say it short. Social guilds are for people that want to play WITH other people, not AGAINST them.

Some of us sit around and chat some of the day, Yuriohs.
Mind you, we also have less cases of item steaing, and the such.

As for some "doing random MvPs and find themself dying to Incantaion", Nya goes up to Thanatos and other such areas, and even KoL successfully does Hibram and such others. XD

(Yes, I am assuming you are the Yuriohs from heRO with the guild name references. Otherwise, just insert "social guild" in place of the names)

Owning a socialish guild before making my now more active WoE one, my experiences say this.
Social guilds are for meeting people and having a good chat with them, a good social guild will allow active alts into their ranks to bolster their capabilities pvm wise in RO and avoid a cliquish attitude.

WoE guilds you gotta be on people's donkey a lot to make them do things they might just not find important or care about, but you, the leader, know if your guild is to be better for it that it hasta be done.  You also haveta work more to prep for WoE every week by gathering supplies for not just you sometimes but for others too.

I suppose what bothers some is that these social guilds in some servers seem to have no actual goals set.  I mean even social guilds can strive to create awesome events for their members and community or to reach the end game mvps.  I guess each guild should have a vision of what they want from the game and actually push members to do it.  WoE is just playing RO on a more competitive level that some really just don't enjoy to me.  Mmmmmm that's about it :3

social guilds can also be WoE oriented or pvp oriented as well. it really depends on the guild and such. For instance, i've played on several servers with the same people, making new friends along the way. Everyone has a great time and we are all pretty sociable. We connect using Ventrillo, so it's more personal i suppose. It really depends on the people and the guild!

I think it goes back a lot more. It depends on what kind of gamer are you.

For me, I love playing FPS games, and therefore I'm the kind of player who plays MMOs solely for the adrenaline rush one experiences when killing and getting killed (and well, strategising + leading). That's why imo RO = PvP/WoE, and to me everything else up to the grinding aspect is a huge waste of time. However it is not always the case, as I've met and become friends with a few guildmates.

It is also always good for serious WOE guilds to ONLY recruit woe-active players, preferably with a probation period.
XileRo is the only HR I know that has a reasonable PvP system. I did watch the RWC like you said, all I see is people spamming the room like every other gang fight there is in RO.

I see why there are social guilds, but.........Pure Social Guilds on a game thats pretty old game thats population is only spiking because of WoE and PvP and new PvM features is a lost cause to me.

You can talk in Vent, or msn but I guess thats just my opinion I mean Imo it is a RPG you do whatever you want.
Just wanted other people's thoughts xD

Live and let live, it's as simple as that.

Different people, different tastes. Why should you care if other people like to socialize? Keep playing a fighting-oriented server, let people who like to chat or hang out in town do what they want, on the server they like, win for everyone.

Social guilds exist, they keep existing and growing, the social type of people that join those guilds like them, so clearly the fact that you don't see a use for them or find it a "lost cause" is irrelevant. How they spend their time online is their business.
heRO is a great friendly, sociable yet WoE active, unique and fun server of 5/5/3 rates with 400+ players, give it a try!

That kind of teamwork can't be built in a once/twice a week login guild.

This is very true.

No matter what, teamwork triumphs all, barring numbers. However, note that guilds that only login to kill people weekly aren't "pro", nor are they true woe guilds.

The best woe guilds I've seen are equally serious in their everyday MVPing and PvP sessions.

Not getting the point really.
Then again, I didn't clarify what I meant my Social Guilds.

I'm not talking about guilds that MvP but don't participate in WoE or PvP. I'm not talking about a guild that can kill ifirit, get its card on a 1x server, then slot it in a +8 Diablos Mante those arn't the guilds im talking about.

I'm talking about guilds that are purely there, just to talk about things.
Yes, I understand that guilds can do whatever they want I'm not dictating their actions, or saying they shouldn't exist. I'm just saying I don't see a point in them and really im saying I don't understand them.

And as far as guilds coming back just to WoE.....The guilds that placed in the RMS Super WoE's do that alot I think that says something. A guild that comes just for WoE means thats all they want to do its a WoE guild. A guild that just downs Satan Morroc and times it trying to kill in a certain amount of time and trying to reach their goal every week is just a MvP Guilds.

Again, before someone else deciphers my thread wrong. I understand guilds do their own thing, I just want to understand the meaning of social guilds.

Some people are like me.

I get max level; I get my stuff; I sit there and talk all day.

I might PvP randomly; I rarely MvP; WoE is blargh. I'd prefer to work my butt off for my stuff and then just sit and talk with others, knowing I have decent things and I accomplished something.

So maybe they're like me? Get their stuff and then just sit, content, happy, and talkative :)

Follow my game :3

Social guilds provide a network for people who don't WoE.

Why should WoEers be the only ones to be able to talk to a set guildies on a regular basis, meet new people, build up connections to trade/lend items with, and be able to talk to each other while on separate maps?
