i used to bot.
my first RO server (started playing only about a year ago) was somewhat the predecessor of iROs valkyrie. it was Indonesia's legit server called the PVP server where after lvl 50 and all second jobs can PVP in most maps. BUT what was strange was that some maps are not PVP... /hmm
and what was worse: no Fwing or Bwing and no tele skill for acos... /omg

it had 2x/2x exp and j-exp rates, but the drop rates was awful (i suspect 0.5%) and items and cards sold in the item mall was either unattainable from monsters or had a really really really low rate. How do i know this? coz i botted there.

I initially didn't bot. I played till level 30-ish. Then i found out everyone there was botting, so i thought WTF playing games were meant to be fun, so i learned how to bot. And i guess i'm a fast learner, so i learned how to bot properly and effectively. Then i started learning bot macros... quite nifty. Started out copying ppl, but then i saw some niche uses for macros that people don't appreciate... it seems most botters out there just know how to copy-paste and most of the time don't really know how to operate things properly and what their functions are...

anyway, even with botting the drama there was annoying and lack of slotted gears and proper cards do get to you as premium (item mall) players are at an unbridgeable advantage so i decided to move to heRO and i find it unnecessary to bot there at all coz the rates are quite acceptable without it being too high...

and yeah, using a bot to break the emp, cloak when needed, use venom splasher, etc are nice and challenging... as well as using macro to use firewall (still unperfected) and move back and repeat the process when necessary is also good, but it is still prone to death by ganging due to limitations of the script (and inability to fwing when suddenly a penomena spawns behind you) /heh

anyway, botting was a fun learning experience for me, but now the server i play in condems botting and really doesn't require botting. I have yet to trans (nowhere near it even), but i enjoy playing there. Granted, the community really helps and in the end main is almost always entertaining to talk in, so yeah there's no need to bot...

don't worry panda, i enjoy the leisurely pace of HeRO... in fact, i enjoyed it so much my monk is still just 95... xP

if anything, i'm quite sad to see how many people try to bot in heRO... and it seems it is those who haven't even tried to play the server themselves and just try to bot from scratch...
however, it also seems to me that those who try to bot in heRO seem to be the less-experienced ones... they seem to make the most basic mistakes which leads to them being caught...
so this makes me wonder whether you panda, as the head admin, has devised more advanced counter-measures against smarter bots... i've never tried to even bot heRO for fear of my IP getting banned, however i believe bots are easily preventable even from the first steps. So IMHO it would be wise to have someone from the GM team to try and access the server with a bot program and devise appropriate countermeasures...

although i have encountered several forms of bot checks in HeRO (they are ingenious and rewarding btw! +1), and though i have heard of people reporting bots etc., i fear for those properly timed bots that could elude the watchful eyes of the server...

anyhoo, kinda makes me wonder if there could/should ever be a server without a client -> meant to be played solely by botting to test and improve one's configuration and macro-ing skills...
just thinking out loud here, i do not condone botting in servers which regulate against it...

kore has its own server for botters to test their bot on >_> I know some bots also use rms to test /swt

We do try to be creative when it comes to bot checking, although I can't guarantee our system to be full proof, we do have various methods, some that don't include going to see the player directly. Anyhow, wish kore didn't exist it would make everything simpler and save us a lot of time that could be better spent!

I never botted. Also don't have the need for it, I wouldn't get satisfaction out of it.

Exactly, botting is lame, and that's why I wanna get all the bots I can.

Hanyuu

I've never botted, then again we could attribute that fact due to the fact that long things confuse me. xD However, I do like to look around on openkore's forums. Some people actually allow botting on their servers just to get an inital population. xD Others use bots to maintain a population....

But hey, it's better than a town full of venders. :D

tell me what you got zone...

well from the way kore works, i know there are a few ways to befuddle the program. However, i have yet to experiment with RO server scripts, so i don't really know where i can place scripts to befuddle kore...

shall we take this to PMs zone? A bit of a shame really, coz i think server admins who don't like bots would want to know these tricks...

just remember that as with virus-antivirus, there will always be the next-generation... /sob;
hopefully we can keep them out of places they're not supposed to be...

I use to Bot to. I first started botting in a Philippine Ragnarok online (pRO) since I had school on most days. I botted 24/7 and I never got Cuaght! plus i had 3 account all being botted at the same time to hunt for money and stuff. Then after I got good in programming a bot and botting I started doing a business with it by Selling configurations to my friends and selling in game items to addicted RO people. It was good for awhile I earned atleast 3000-5000 pesos a week. and it only cost me 1050 pesos to keep my bot running for a month. so it was pretty good in all I soled around 4-6 accounts with 99 chars and a whole lot of M and Items. Then i got fed up so one day I just pulled the plug and said its time ot take a break for around 6months to 1 year i stopped playing. then I got to this private server called NiktoutRO. at 1st I didnt want to bot but then the GM was rude and kinda stupid so I botted. And I never got Caught! I botted around 5 accounts in NiktoutRO at the same time lol. well that was my bot experiance. after around 6 moths of playing that I quit and for another year stopped playing. Now I currently play in a Mid rate server and I am not botting. Since I like the server and I enjoy playing it the old fashioned way. XD

I'm botting right now on iRO Chaos. :x  I've been botting every day, all day for a couple years now.  (With a couple exceptions)  I sell zenny and items for IRL money (Just to my friends, not to just random people). :x  I don't bot on pservers though :/ So no worries. . . xD

Gotta catch 'em all?

I am thankful some server that I used to play had bots, it was so good, one day gloves were like 80k, next they were swinging around 20k on a botter shop, I bought two of them, just to find out later that I would drop a glove and have to sell it for around 20k and couldn't even sell it because the botters have sold it for about 10k to everyone of the server, even Crit Assassins were with gloves.

pservers with a legit economy are so much more fun.  You actually get some satisfaction for your grinding and item hunting. (In terms of a low rate)

Anyone been caught on an official server?  I was wondering if you get caught, do they send you emails or notify you or anything? Or is your account right out banned?

I don't think anyone can deny that after leveling up your hundredth *insert favorite class here*, on your hundredth low rate server, in your thousandth dull leveling party in Anubises that you don't sort of look at yourself, mourn the time you have wasted over the years, and ask yourself why the hell you don't just use a bot.
