Post by: PhillepinO on Apr 25, 2007, 04:10 AM
is Ragnarok online 2 possible for private servers?

or has gravity figured out a way to stop this?

They are already working on emulators for RO2

Right now there isnt enough information out, as only the korean version is out, and you need a korean social security number to register. So it will still be a while until a private server will be made, but it will be done.

So the source code was already stolen? I doubt it would be as easy with RO 2 cause Gravity forsure learned their mistake with the Chinese RO server case.

Theres already a few emulator projects going

www.project-tyr.net/

Theres also saga and janus or something.

They aren't completely done translating and making it stable, but I'm sure once iRO2 comes out, it wont be too long thereafter.

a release of the source code wasnt needed.

A working-ish server has already been built up by the janus team.

They were able to have a running server and have people connect to it within 3 months of the client being released, and that was mainly by packet sniffing.

They are able to load mobs and items and different races/classes.

but as yet as far as i know there wasnt anything about them having the mechanics of it sorted.

Janus was just rushing to be the first, I have more faith in Tyr who's actually trying to get everything correct and be completly stable.

Only thing that worries me about private RO2 servers in the future is the chance that they will look like the private WoW servers. Unstable, low population, laggy, pretty buggy and well a pain in the donkey to get set up so they actually work (client side, server side isin't my headache.). I mean RO2 is bound to be alot more secure than RO.

But we just have to wait and see, I'm worried but ofcourse I'm hoping for the best.
