Alex.

Does people prefer Non-Renewal over Renewal?

I heard renewal sucks, though i've not really tried it. Why do people hate it so much?

Gene

We got used to how RO works and loved its ways that the change on renewal is too much, ex: leveling, stats, equipment and such. I haven't tried the much yet but I played a bit and 3rd job skills are a troll that made me stop playing for now. I might re try maybe after some time though.

Alex.

Does the majority prefer non-renewal then?

Triper

Basically, the ones who like the game for fights and wars prefer Pre-Renewal because it involves team play compared to Renewal where tons of classes can One Shot alone everything with 1 Key pressed even if Gravity is trying to not make that happen that much, damage was already made.

The ones who just care about PVM are enjoying Renewal because they can now solo everything with almost no gear/strategy needed aka PVM Kings.

The game changed to a super easy mode and the things that should be changed like give better challenges to vets was ignored.

The problem, most of the time, is that their dev sucks with the implementation of good ideas. The good idea is there, final use is bad[points for the booking party system or the auction feature, for example].

Renewal is just making RO a milking money game imo.

WoE Competitive Guilds are always on pre-renewal, I have not seen them moving to renewal either.

lol Gene calling 3rd job skills a troll is a bit too much.

Like Trippy said, me as a long time ro player prefer the game take longer to level, learn the class and prefer more team work.  It's a way to make ro more enjoyable than other games.

MilkyWay

You know what they say, if it aint broke don't fix it.  /ok

Sol Invictus

But it was broken
They had a chance to fix it gradually from the beginning but didn't
So you have Renewal

This.

First off, since they increased the stat cap, so now nearly every class has the same builds, more or less.  Priests no longer have to choose between being FS or ME.  Now you've got Battle Support Arch Bishops, who don't need parties cuz they can level faster on their own.

And since the stat cap was increased, everyone's all immune to statuses without breaking a sweat.  In Pre-RE, it takes a combination of gear and stats to get immunity to the majority of statuses, which is why specialized classes like Dazzler Dancers or FS MS Wizards were effective.  But getting 100 Vit, Int, Luk in Renewal is like popping a poring.

Then they gave everyone AoE skills which severely gimped the partying meta.  Why use FAS Snipers and Wizards and fumble with finding tanks, strings, Profs, Priests, etc. when you can mob and AoE and support with an Arch Bishop all by your damn self?  Every class can play every role now; no one needs others to fulfill their needs.  Pre-RE, classes were specialized for certain roles, which imo offered more variety to the game because you had to get other classes and other players into your party in order to do well.

And one of the major features that hamstrings RE imo is how they locked down which places you can level by cutting off your Exp gain for killing monsters not within your level range.  This concept is absurd to me.  If I worked my donkey off to get gear to solo Necros or Kasas or whatever, why should I not get my just desserts?  Sure, I might be lvl 70 and they're lvl 85+, but if I successfully kill them, you think this means you have the right to steal my exp cuz you think it's too much?  Maybe you should lower they amount of exp they give instead and stop coming out with new mobs that give 60 mil exp per kill.  And by increasing the level limit to 150, the amount of places you can level after lvl 100 shrinks to like 5 maps.  Of course one could argue that in Pre-RE, everyone only leveled at Mosc, Abbey, and Thors, but you weren't confined to those areas.  You still gained FULL exp at lvl 98 killing Porings and Fabres, which helped put more cards into the economy, which boosted the eco, etc.

I've been trying not to also bring up the failure of balancing the Third Classes' skills into this, because I think (I hope) they can still be fixed.  I won't bring up the argument of how GoH is a ridiculous skill and how braindead Gravity must've been, thinking a skill like that would fit into PVP/GVG (and yet Esma is still PVM only?).  And I'll try not to talk about how in Pre-RE, Champs had hard counters to their most powerful skills vs. GoH where all you have to do is just move back and forth.  But yeah, these are still issues.

When Gravity started working on Renewal, they should have worked on fixing the many bugs of the game, not changing it.  How about bringing the game up to date and fixing the client so things like position lag are reduced?  Or adding in a native VOIP to the game to ease communication between members?  Or, perhaps more importantly, focus on the things that have been bugging ppl about the game itself such as how homunculus's speeds getting bugged with Vap/Recall, or changing the elemental bonus/resistance of Earth to be like the other elements, or changing/fixing the way that GR doesn't reduce monster attacks but Raydric and Deviling do or changing the MVP system to be more about partying than one-shot killing, or how the majority of quests in the game are "Talk to NPC 1, talk to NPC 2, get Exp/Item, End"...

Adding new classes, increasing the stat cap, and increasing the levels were not fixes, they were cop-outs.  RO was a good game before Renewal--not perfect, and I do believe that it needed a revival of some sort--but the way they did it seems, to me, like they just wanted to make the game flashier to lure in more ppl's money.  I'm still waiting for Gravity to fix things, even after Renewal has been completed.

XileRo is the only HR I know that has a reasonable PvP system. I did watch the RWC like you said, all I see is people spamming the room like every other gang fight there is in RO.

I just feel that renewal was trying way to hard to keep up with the generic MMORPG quest spam happy scene. That's fine for newer players, but the older players like the more party oriented style that renewal lacks

jblazer

Renewal is easy-mode for Ragnarok. Level up fast put on all your stats and skills then go around one shotting 1000 monsters and pvp isn't much different. It's just boring.
