Question about MDEF
« on: Sep 30, 2008, 08:21 pm »
What is the difference between

Silk Robe's MDEF+10 and Kapha's MDEF+8 (besides the obvious)

On the stat list it shows up as

10 + 8

Does that mean the Kapha mdef doesn't count as much as a silk robe?

My guess is that while Silk Robe takes away 10% of all magic damage, Kapha only takes away literally "8" dmg. Is this accurate? If so, I think i want to kill myself.

INT 21+32 = 53
MDEF = 30+53

53, is known as Soft MDEF (derived from Player's INT). What it does is insignificant. Just a reduction from 53 damage from magic attacks.

30, on the other hand is Hard MDEF (derived from gears and in this case cards as well). It reduces damage recieved from magic attacks by a percentage;30 = 30%. This is wat u want /ok

umm...for soft defense, so if the damage is 353, then it would be reduced to 300?

and, which one got calculated first? hard of soft first?

I think hard goes first, soft is I think the last step in damage calculations. Work same way as DEF I think.

Just a reduction from 53 damage from magic attacks.
A Mage's Bolts, however, do 10 hits. That's 53x10=530 less damage. Still not epic, but still something to remember when thinking that things are useless.

First number is a %, the second number is an actual damage reduction number.

Hence why 95 "Hard" MDEF is near perfect nullification, but 95 "Soft" isn't.
