Preferred garment.

Hello.

Is Wool Scarf [1] the best option for this spot (3 def, 4mdef)? Combined with Tidal Shoes it gives 10% HP, and the boots also have 5% less damage from water. The combo does not have the highest def, nor the highes mdef but with innate hp bonus, free slots and a small resistance to water (SG, Waterball, not sure if this reduces damage from water property) it is very flexibe and overall very strong. 4mdef from Wool Scarf certainly helps in WoE and some MvP situations.

Manteu gives 1 more defense and Ragamuffin gives 10mdef (but no slot). Another option might be Undershirt[1] if you're flee-reliant, but seeing as Panties can't be slotted and Undershirt only has 2 def (1mdef though) it loses some of the appeal.

Price will certainly be a concern for Wool Scarf, but it's not overly hard to get nor overly expensive in most servers.

Any thoughts? Open for suggestions.

I would imagine a +9 Manteau is a more expensive then a +6 Wool Scarf, depending on server rates. And I would still argue that Wool Scarf combined with Tidal shoes is still on par or even better (10% hp is worth more then 2-5 defense to any class imho).
The defense difference before upgrades is 1. A +9 Manteau is 10 defense (9.94?)? A +6 Wool Scarf is 7 (6.94?) so the difference (not counting set-bonus, 4mdef) is quite a bit.
Again, depending on server rates and such will change prices and availability.

Maybe I'm just being stupid seeing as Wool Scarf is a lot harder to get and thus harder to overupgrade, but I'm looking for opinions and options.
And I realize to really be effective you have to swap gear all the time, but how often will 3 more defense help you survive against a linked EDP Sinx SB (yes, using extremes as examples is a great idea)? And if 3 defense will help you survive, I'm sure 10% hp will as well.

Am I on the wrong track?

well it depends... for me getting 20 manteaus was just as easy, if not easier, then getting one wool scarf....

updated servers have increased wool scarf rates i believe so it's even easier to hunt them. get a sniper and mob banshee with sharpshooting.

+7 wool scarf isn't hard at all...

I recently found a Silf Manteau that has been quite helpful to switch around on my active characters in my account, being 9 def, 0 weight, all-job garment, with built-in damage reduction, flee etc. so the missing card slot isn't that bad. I do have one Aesprika as well, but I'm saving it for my future Assassin... When playing more tank-y (if that's even a word) characters I prefer Pauldrons and Valk. Manteaus.

Yeah, some of those items, like the Silf Manteau, the PvP gears, Diablos' gear, Aesprika etc. are from the future updates, like Satan Morroc and the Battleground updates that haven't been implemented widely yet. They just exist on the eAthena's (KRo/Sakray) databases which means that Random Item gamblers can give them out already.

On my GC paladin, I swapped my + 4 Immune Manteau and +9 Firelock Sandals out for +4 Wool Scarf(Which has Raydric in it now) and +4 Tidal Shoes as well.  The +10% HP bonus was what caught my attention.  And that added M.def is a nice little bonus for GC kickback reduction as well.

I have a Verit in my Tidal Shoes, but I was thinking maybe I'll jus stick a Sohee in there instead.

For the record, I ended up getting an Expert Ring before my Tidal Shoes.  lol....  My friend tried farming an Expert Ring and got a Ragged Zombie Card instead.  So we traded.   ;D (Ragged for my LK.)
