sinx's sonic blow commonly used with EDP for that don't ever use GR armor, and i think holy armor (angeling) will reduce the damage...

Feather beret
+X Cranial Valk shield or Buckler.

orc lord can help reflect some back, useful for nuke type melee characters. dispel also works wonders. make friends with a sage :D
