Is highrate fun?
« on: Apr 03, 2011, 05:40 pm »
So last 5 years since I quit euRO I've been on some LR and 2 MR, but now I'm semi-bored of RO. The oh-so-fun grinding..

How is a HR server? Are all of them pvp/woe oriented? Or are there even kawaii HRs?
To those of you that went from low/mid to highrates, any bad and/or big difference? (if you played LR/MR you know what I mean, the "hard&fun" part.)
From what I've heard most owners on highrates are somewhat stupid. Any truth behind this? Since I dont know, just wanna know.

This is not a server seeking thread, so dont suggest any server here. If you feel that you have to, then send a pm : )

AFAIK every HR out there is pvp/WoE oriented. After all, 95% of RO's endgame is PvP oriented, rest are tough MvPs. And tough MvPs won't be a problem to solo with level 255/120, so you're stuck to PvP and drama at HRs.

Most HRs nowadays are supposed to be PvP/WoE oriented, though I wouldn't be surprised if there is a couple of kawaii ones.
The main difference between low/mid/high is that the latter is short term fun, takes you minutes to get a fully maxed char and then, besides PvP, there's not much else to do. There's no point to partying on a high rate, especially if the max level is over 99, which makes it even less appealing for me personally.

It does seem in general that high rates are made by the lazier and dumber people that mostly lack RO/eAthena knowledge.
Your random 13y old RO playing kid is more likely to create a High rate server to avoid the (as you put it) oh-so-fun grinding.

I too have this question myself sometimes, though I keep hearing from Relics etc those HR guys said that HR is just PvP all day and kill people.  That make sense, you don't hurt equip or card like you do in LR or MR.  It doesn't interest me because I am not a competitive seeker, I prefer team work and strategy rather than brainless who-click-fast=win.  When I see a HR 99/70 server I see it as a PvP arena, no hard work necessary, is there more to it?

It doesn't hurt to try a HR, chances are if you started RO on a HR it is harder for you to go back onto a LR/MR while if you started on a LR/MR and went onto a HR is it easier to go back if you don't like it.

One think i don't get is, HR and donation items ... okay in HR ppl with ultra high stats caps, even 255 is pretty high for me.  Still it seems pretty common for HR players complain about donation items give too much power.  Well maybe they do, but it's one big imbalance fest in there (for some ultra high-rate server) anyway so why do people care so much... Is it because there are just PvP and everything that could slightly make someone harder to die need to be banned?

One more thing, in most of my "check server cheating" days where I actually download a server's client and go in to "investigate".  I notice there are plenty of events OR players keep asking for events.  Be it GM hosted or automated.  It does seems they are trying to keep you interested in the server and try to "create fun time" for you because the kill monster level up / hunting / grinding element is out of the game.

Servers:
>Low Rate: pRO Valkyrie (Official till 2010)
>Mid Rate: aeRO before (iamBeans management, iTwilicares Guild Mayaan Server)
>Super High Rate: SeireteiRO (until the gay admin gave up  :( Originators Guild, Barons Guild )

and currently ManiaRO reborn (SHR).

in my opinion, people who prefers HR/SHR are people who are busy with their life and just have an hour or two to play the game (people whose working hours are like s***) i quitted valkyrie because i don't have time anymore.

also unlike low rate and mid rate the zeny on HR/SHR means nothing...

Even when I don't have much time I play a lowish mid rate because it gives me a sense of achievement when I find smth or get money and you can still sell stuff (autotrade etc) because they're worth smth.

I tend to find HRs to be the quietest genre... they're not fast enough to be SHR populated, but they're too fast for the LR/MR crowd's tastes.

But no less, they tend to have the SHR's focal points; the end goal is WoE, if not PVP and as was mentioned earlier, drama. Drama, drama, drama. Many players just sort of fashion a second life out of the server (as harsh and generalizing as that sounds) and so you typically wind up with a server where PVP is full of smack-talk and ostensibly aggressive behavior (swearing, taunting via PM, mouthing off about you in town, etc. etc.) and the prominent classes are Monk and Assassin variants. I've been on a few good servers here and there, but if you're playing RO for anything other than to waltz through PVP with a Sin-X/Champ, S/HRs are probably not your cup of tea and will most likely be full not only of people who only speak Tagalog, but will have @afk/@logout'd populations whose small active portion sit in PVP and talk with their upper echelon of guildies, taking a tea-break to mass-gank anyone who stumbles in unknowingly, or they all sit in the main town bantering idly until WoE comes, whereupon they all basically sit and stalemate at their castles, sending out scouts to each opposing guild's area, and swatting what scouts come through their doors.

(Note, of course, this is all generalization. There may be a diamond in the rough somewhere if you search.)

I started on a HR and have been playing for like 4 days now, farmed enough gear to be ready to pvp and do some BG. I thought a dungeon warper was op, but damn.. @warp frikking rocks!

And I gotta say, they cant pvp for s***. Everyone tried to KOS and failed misserably, having 200+ in a stat for a sinx apparantly mean "str, agi and luk is better then vit tyvm noob". Perma GR means you're pro.
BG was awkward, just.. awkward.
In WOE it felt like all HWs thought that multiple SG's was awesome and didnt know about ganban on LP.
And the tagalog spammer, like.. Congrats, you killed me while I was tanking a SinX, getting debuffed by a HP and tried to kill a champ. You did good sir.
The trashtalk, like seriously? SERIOUSLY? Noobs calling other noobs noobs just because they are a better noob, gj. It wasnt the normal trashtalk just to piss the other guy off, this was literally trashtalk.

This was a server where people said the woe competition and pvp was insane.. Thumbs up for you.
So, all roads leads to woe, but they cant play. Srsly, playing on a HR for a few days made me quit RO forever. Good bye.

Yeah if you like the GAME as in killing monsters, selling stuff that are worth something (ok economy), partying up etc don't go to SHR. High MR 99/70 is still ok, but honestly if you don't have time play SL or something, you don't rebirth and you can solo kiel, abysmal knights and OHKOS raydrics and a lot of mobs. Not the best class ever but powerful very fast.

or u could just go for highrates like vision, chronos, icaria, tfe, etc, whr all u do is woe.

but be prepared to be left out if you don't know your class fully, and i mean FULLY. if u rly want good woe comp you practically have to follow the top dogs around, since they're pretty much the only decent players left, not counting those scattered all arnd. guilds like JU, beastmode, CHoT, awk, etcetc.

if u want REAL teamwork and strategy, no farming (never), and bigger challenges than lolpartying for bio3, sm, et, blahblah, then trying to get into/fighting these guilds is prob the only option left.

if u dun like woe then ro as of now is rather s*** imho. juz quit.
XileRo is the only HR I know that has a reasonable PvP system. I did watch the RWC like you said, all I see is people spamming the room like every other gang fight there is in RO.

Yeah, if you don't like WoE the game will get old really fast. I don't like to WOE or PVP and I usually play semi-hardcore for 3 months then leave. I'm about to leave RO again I think because the game has become too boring for me. But you see you'll get tired of any game after playing it for a long time so maybe you just need to go outside and take a walk and think about all of this. I'm serious by the way. I post a lot on this forum when I'm outside and not playing because usually when you're not actually logged on it helps you put things into perspective. I'd say just try SHR out if you want to, after all you'll only waste a couple of hours if you don't like it, and what's a couple of hours? Keep one thing in mind though - if you're a veteran player (+5 years) like a lot of us here and if you haven't played for a while, you're in for a big surprise as the game has changed a lot, even if you stick to non-renewal. If you're really bored you could always try out all of the classes properly if you haven't done that yet.
Take it as a learning experience and try to have a basic grasp of all the classes, even the "lamer" ones like gunslingers, as any class can rock if played well.
This could also help you become better in PVP.

Kay I didn't read most of the replies on here.

I prefer Low or Mid rates, why?   I've played about 3 high rates my whole RO life.  They just sucked so bad, got max level, nothing else to do but pvp.  I mean nothing.

Low Rates and Mid rates I've played usually had quests or something interesting to do, besides level.  So I always look for servers with unique features or something else to do when I don't feel like griding or gear hunting.  Some high rates may have things to do also besides pvp?  I'm not sure, I haven't really looked at the HRs, cause most of them are just copy-paste servers.  Same stuff every other server has on them.

So even though HRs are more convenient where levels and items are concerned, Low-Mid rates are a lot more fun to me, more to do usually and a better sense of accomplishment.

High rates are only if you want to play for a few months.
Mostly just pvp and WoE
