I'd been wondering for ages, how do those guys earn so much zeny in such a low rate servers? Honestly, i have problems even on high rate servers. How to earn quick zeny for beginners, you know those who first stumble into RO, especially official servers?

Bot on your second account Rogue.

If that's out of the question, the key is selling stuff to other players, not to NPCs. For example Stems sell to NPCs for 29z; I've seen lazy Alchemists(They need them for pots) offering up to 1k for them. Alchemists in general are great market for low level players since many ingredients are low level. Any and all quest items are worth a lot to lazy people; that depends on the quest(i.e. every swordie will get HP recovery while moving, not every will bother with Berserk).
Honestly, sometimes I just go through my inventory and can't find anything to sell, just about every item in RO is used in one thing or another, be it a skill or a quest or a headgear(Even if it was just that stupid Mr. Smiley). That's why having a slave merch is very important.

If you're chronically scared of other players, look for mobs which drop equips as these are usually worth a lot to NPCs.

If you're playing on 2x drop rates or higher, just stick to Payon 1. Skull Rings go for 5k, Opals for 3.5k, Maces for 800, plus all the normal drops like Decayed Nails and whatnot. Two-three 50% weight runs and you're set for all "basic" equips for your first job.

speaking of lowrates, one of best things to do is to level at payon cave F1 early on...if you're lucky you will get plenty of opals and skull rings. When the rates are a bit higher, like 10+ drops, best place to farm zeny is the map with alot of desert wolves...

Pandora

If you're patient, head to sphinx and kill zeroms until you get their card, then you'll be rich and set for a long while. If the server is just started don't do this however, as no one will have lots of zeny to offer for it.

I usually just level and don't care about zeny that much in my early levels, having a merch on the side is always good of course, to oc the drops you don't need, and to vend the rares you get. I always create a merch as my second char, usually while my other one is still low.

Nice suggestions ppl.. Keep it up.

The best ways is as stated, NPC things with OC, and sell stuff to players. If you play on a server with @autotrade, then hav it active as much as possible. Has earned my lots of zeny.
ohh, and a way to get some zeny fast, is to vend things for just below their real worth, since many ppl would take up the offer when they see it.
Becarefull tho, so you dont get tricked into selling rare items for to little zeny, that will ruin your economy.
Anyway, i hope you gotten an idea about how ppl think on low rates. ^^

I usually hunt some easy card that makes fair amount of money. Pandora mentioned Zerom. They sell well, but sphinx isn't that easy place at start. I recommend hunting Peco Peco card. You can go kill those somewhat early. They also drop staffs and oranges that sell ok for NPC and slotted sandals that you can sell to players 5-20k each. (really depends of economy of server)

Good map for peco pecos is 1 up and 1 right from Morroc.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Thanks everyone for you generous suggestions. ^^

It could be me, i use battle priest, battle smith, and battle alchemist, still i don't earn much. Rare drops are rare and i'm not the lucky one, the rarest stuff i'd found so far are wolf and poporing cards, wolf's still ok, but who needs poporing? Also, i hate those bots, always in the way, messing up the place and hunt. I tried lots of monsters, but still poor. The economy is good i guess, plenty of player are so filthy rich, they reek, still hardly any players will visit payon, dunno why but it's like a HQ there, only to buy stuff.

To me, striking the good balance in RO is impossible. I mean i always need to buy supplies and equipments from NPCs. I'm always solo, unless my brothers, who are also front-liners, wants to tag along, so you can figure out how much i need to stay alive. There's no custom(vvs element) weapons for sale, and upgrading equipments is always risky, and i mean ALWAYS! I want to make some myself, but not brave enough to try, irons, steels, stones and jewels are very hard to find. It's funny cuz i share the same equipments among my characters if they can use it, especially those 2 merchants, still i can't balance the zeny. I'm really a bad player or what?

Economy really depends of server you play in. In some low population servers there are no shops to buy "custom items" you mentioned. And you really can't make them yourself with battle smith. You need 70+ dex and luk to make level 3 VVS ele weapons with decent success %.

If you need VVS elemental weapons you should ask around who is good a smith or type /blacksmith and see top 10 and contact one of them. They are somewhat expensive to make so you don't really need them at start.

If you are somewhat new to RO it takes time to learn how to make money. I used to be a newbie long time ago too. Don't compare yourself to pro players. Play the game way you enjoy it.

Also hunt enemies that drop cards and loot that are actually worth something. Like Sphinx 1-2, Zeroms and Matyrs. Coal Mines 3 for Skeleton Worker card, Coal Mine 2 for Elven Ears, Coal Mine 1 for Jurs [3]. There are plenty of easy places to hunt valuable stuff. You just have to hunt patiently until you get the drop.

If you spend all your money to potions or game feels hard etc, then you should read some guides how to make your character. You propably messed up your build.

EDIT: And you don't need to upgrade your armors past the safe level until you are higher level and you are going to PvP or WoE. +4 armors will do just fine. Level 3 weapons do fine as +5. You just lose money breaking equips.

/hmm
actually, i'd started playing right when 2-2 jobs first implemented. I admit that i'm kinda stupid also, i tried some builds that i thought might work, though the chances of failing is higher. In the end, all ended up very badly and i had to delete them all and start all over again.

Thanks for the tip on equipments, but even upgrading to +1 might break your stuff, so it's always scary, unless you're willing to pay real money for slightly better unreal materials to strengten your unreal stuff. Anyway, i'll try to break the odds with ordinary materials. XP

Pure forger had vanished from my server, i think cuz i'd seen none. The only things smiths do nowadays are hunt, refine, or vend. So i'm planning to create one and will try to be the best, even though i suck, but i'll still try nevertheless.

We have lots of player, but most of them are lazy bums, bots. It'd be impossible to sell things to those lame brains.

Poki

I didn't bother reading any other posts and I'm just going to state how I make my zeny: Pick a class you're good at. Preferably one that can carry a lot and kill quickly.

Money items sold to NPC:

- Witherless Rose (Obeaune, Wild Rose, Mavka)
- 1carat Diamond (Obsidian)
- 2carat Diamond (Got lazy listing monsters)
- 3carat Diamond (Yeah)
- Stone of Sage

Basically, hunt witherless rose from Wild Rose for just pure gold.  Obeaune for a fin helm that can be sold for decent to players while getting gold off from Witherless Rose.  Saint's Robe [1] is also dropped by Obeaune.  Mavka because they give you blue herbs too, but they're a bit hard.

The carat diamonds are just some random things that I don't really care about but they're still good to sell. Don't care where to get them.

Stone of Sage is good if you have a champion that can Asura strike pretty quick.  Use Asura strike and make sure you can kill in one shot and go to Thanatos Tower and kill some Observations. Bring some fly wings and SP items.

Payon cave in the early levels is good for starters to make some quick low zeny.

Level off from places that give decent EXP while dropping things that are considered great, such as levelling off from Thara frogs or Zeroms at a low level.

But aside from all of that, it all fits in the category of "grinding" and "luck" for those who believe in it.  Yeah, I pretty much got lazy and wanted to end my post after my 3rd item on the list.

Holy Knight

When im on one of my lower chars, i find that Toy Factory floor 2 is a descent place to autoloot and sell it to npcs. Its not the greatest zeny spot, but just enough to keep you from going broke on pots an awakes.

of course, this location wont last you to your servers level cap (duh xP), its jus a nice, easy spot to gain some steady zeny, while leveling there.

Other than that, GH's Chivalry 4 (i think its 4 >.<) is a good spot to loot.

But, as others have stated, the best is to sell to other players.

superhappyfun

i find making money with a paladin/crusader is pretty easy. just get to the point where you can one hit raydrics with gc and mob them in ghchiv. they drop elu and slot chainmails which you can overupgrade and sell for big bucks. plus they drop swords and stuff you can sell to npcs with overcharge for decent zeny. not to mention they drop raydric cards which always sell for a pretty penny.

If there's one thing I learned from Valkyrie this is it: Cards never drop. Ever. Absolutely. They're not even in the game; a myth made by older players to make fun of new players. Never count on them.

ngjoko

Well, cards do sound great, but the chances are 0.01%, so there's no guarantee that anyone can get at least 1 card by killing 10,000 of the monster. Equipments sounds better, even if the chances are low, at least it's much higher than cards, except for lv.4 weapons and rare armors, and the worth is definite.

But what about common drops that sell high and easy to find, is there a thing like this?

There is... Mainly quest and creation items.
Usually you will need to go through some hassel to get the items, even if its high drop rate, or you need many of them.
And since many ppl are lazy, they'll buy them instead.
Take creators as an example, i see many of them buying stems for 1-3k each (and im playing a LR).. One can make a fortune if you feel like hunting for stems..
Its not very fun, but can be a good income..

And i've also plenty of times seen ppl asking to buy glacial hearts, for the rachel dun quest.
Stock some up and sell when time comes.

Just some examples on how easy drops can make zeny. ^^
