doubts regarding setting up a server.

well hello guys...

i am planning to make a new server and ofc this is the 1st time i am making 1

actually i have some doubts regarding work of hosting companies.

when i buy a service from hosting company do the set up the server for me or i have to do it n giv them?? what is  the procedure for it... and till wht extent can the hosting company help me?

i also want to knw is it compulsory that if i host my server frm a particular hosting company then i hav to host my website also with them?? 

i searched the forums for a similar topic but cudnt get it.... if such a topic already exists then i apologize for it n would like u to giv the link

Depends on the host but the ones who "setup for you" most of the time are junk. Good hosts, usually, are the ones where you can setup everything by your own ways and you won't probably even find them in here.

And no, you don't need to have it on the same host and sometimes is even better to separate things if you've some limitations due to the budget invested.

This is just my opinion but, if you're asking this, it would be better you don't even try to make a server or get a good co-admin that understands this part and let him do that part of the work with you supervising his work. Even if RO pservers nowadays are so easy to get/make as 1-2-3-click-I'veaservernow, managing one online is another completely different story then just buy some space on a host and slap files inside it and make it work to 10-100 players.

It is not a good idea to count on work done other than from your self or your hired trusted and reliable staff. 

For example, if you do not have the knowledge to setup your own server chances are you will have difficulties managing it even you have a server up and running.  In case of hosting problem or dispute occurs, would you be able to move your server or website to another host?  make offsite backup to secure your server files and databases?  Would your host take your server captive or charge you for every piece of work done as a result of your lack of knowledge on setting up and fixing your server? 

You are in no rush to open a server, the time you take to learn the basis step by step will proven to be useful if you have the heart to run a server.

To your questions:

Many RO server hosting solution came with free server setup and free control panel setup.  We prohibit those hosting that advertise in this forum from offering any other RO server specific services other than server and control panel setup.  This is because there were history of hosts who did a very poor job and overcharge their customers for any RO server related work done (such as website, scripting, fixing, hexing client, patcher setup, optimizing etc).  There were disputes, money loss and server / player hurt.  Do not assume RO hosts will be the solution to your server problem. 

It is up to you to host your website on the same host or on a different host.  It is more economical when a server host comes with free web-hosting.  You can imagine having them in the same host might not able to let you communicate with your players when there is any service interruption because both the website and server can be down at the same time.

you should also consider what software you want the server to run on and such, and how you will deal with security and cheating related issues. sql injection, ddos attacks, speedhacks...
you pretty much arent a successful server until you've been attacked
