Do players no longer care about quality?

This wasn't meant to every low-rate server, there actually are some good ones (e.g. heRO imo),
though even they lost players because of the failures of other people/HR admins

Sadly, it's true. Players themselves are the best thing that can happen to a server. If you have a working community, people always have something to do.

And since the good low rates finally went to the HoS (RebirthRO) or are just about drama anyways (AnthemRO) because the GMs became retarded or needed MOAR $$$, there is no good server with a good population anymore.

That unrealiability eventually got me to start my own thing, too. But what's most likely to happen? Low population forever! whee :D

Quality hasn't been a part of the RO experience in years.

Though I'm tickled to see "Current Servers: RebirthRO" in your info field there OP. Rofl.

Bigger servers become more about bottom line and profits than they do quality of gameplay and overall experience. Probably one of the biggest reasons RO is dying.

I believe people do care about quality, but there is tons of low rate servers. And almost everyone has a low rate server that is their "home" and they hop around from high rate to high rate hoping to find one that is somewhat interesting and to get away from the pain of low rates for a little while. But thats just my opinion.

I believe the vast majority have simply accepted the circumstances. They still value quality, but the reality of server hopping from wipes, corruption or just all around terrible administration.. has browbeaten expectations into the ground. Apathy is a much better word for describing the present mood of the playerbase.

To be honest, RO lost its sheen years ago. Only its nostalgic value still holds the vestiges of a once middling playerbase. Thankfully (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), RO has seen a resurgence in Eurasia (Singapore, China, Phillipines, Russia, Japan), but I digress.

AdventRO is opening on April 1st. Opening event with prizes. Join our forums.

everyone cares about quality, it's just that their idea of quality is different than yours. You see everything from one side of the spectrum so anyone who plays a server that is not ideal to you seems like a waste of time or they have no idea what quality is.

Pretty sure no side of the spectrum should see broken NPCs as quality.

In my 5+ years of RO (all of which was Private servers), I've had an entire 2 server homes, which an off time of 6 months.
Of course, there was a few other servers I tried out, but most of them only lasted 2 hours before I pressed the delete button.
It's findable. It just takes a while.

Sometimes they also clearly identify that their current server is "low quality" but they will stay as to keep in contact with friends to socialize. You need some brave person in the circle of friends to leave to a "higher quality" server before that whole band of players finally change server (or even change to another game totally.) Also most players of RO are now in university/college age group and can't afford to start over on low rates as easily, so they either slowly move to servers with higher and higher rates, or they stick with the original while whining about it.

l†achi

Green are you serious? Because an NPC is broken the server has no quality, that's an error in the server but the benefits must outweigh the bad if they're still playing it [unless they just own everyone on the server, then every server is good.]
But not every server has everything running 100%, people still play it, if you want just ask them why they play it and why they like it. Instead of saying they don't care about quality.

Haha yeah I totally agree with this topic and I too have noticed all these custom servers which obviosly had alot of work done to them have very small communities
and then I goto a server like atomixRo which pretty basic besides 3rd classes, the rest of the npcs etc you can find on eathena forums and before it was packed.

Indeed it's easy to make a server these days you could easily setup a good looking server in a day or two by just taking scripts you see on eathena and find a cheap host, setup flux simply enough.. put some nice headgears in donation and try make some money out of it.

Trust me a huge percentage of servers out there right now are from the above category.

TL;DR:
All servers that exist should be hacked, killed, eAthena should remove all SVNs uploaded somewhere and only 3-4 servers with good admins in the rate-range of 1/1/1 to 100/100/100 should be made then.

That's why I'm waiting for Renewal to fail completely and Gravity(or whoever is running RO ATM) finally going under - we'll finally get a good 1/1/1(or 2/2/2 but no more) pserver, right now making them is pointless because no one plays them.

Well, I played kRO Renewal for some weeks and it actually made fun, I really liked it.
Many people out there like and prefer renewal.

However, let me quote something I hear about 5 times a day from different RO players:
Quote
If there would be a 1/1/1 server, mostly a blank eAthena, that is stable and has an admin where you can be sure that the server will be online like forever, me, my friends and my guild would play it
Sadly, most good admins have eAthena as kinda their "playground", they have so much experience that they always want to try something new, something other servers don't have (I am the same, really), even if many players out there are searching for a RO server, not for something modified that isn't really RO anymore.
If a good admin would set up a blank eAthena, just modifying the source (Fixing dupe/crash bugs) and adjusting stuff (Like...did you know the walkingspeed calculation of eAthena is wrong compared to that of Aegis? or the packets for walking have a missing byte that is considered as "unknown" for eAthena while it's actually a position of a big cell?) and possibly adding some useful renewal stuff, like the interface and the quest-icons above NPCs and hell, this would be a server many people out there would play.

Just my opinion and experience in words.

well still, you guys are just saying people don't look for quality in a server because they play a certain server that you don't like but they obviously like it.
Here's your solution for all of you complaining: Make a server

Gotham

@topic...yes
Quality is most important for me..i have lots of ro out of which i think Lumina ,Inro and official ro are best in this regards..

profluj

It is sometimes difficult to find a new server that satisfies your needs because half of the time the people have their niches already, and they are already a high level and don't want a "noob" in their guild even though you are fully competent and you are just underleveled and or no good gear. So I advise people going to a server that is going to open, so you have an even playing field *cough* points to signature *cough* ;)
