How big a mob can you handle?

MOB TRAINING - there are many definitions for it. But in essence, it's the gathering up of a large amount of monsters and killing them with one or several AOE attack. It could be done by oneself or in a party. It could involve dragging the monsters for a long duration across the entire map before killing them (i.e. trying to mob the entire map). Anyone who tries to steal your mob is considered KS (Kill Steal), and you immediately PrtScn and report them.

1. Is it true that you get faster experience when you mob train?
There's a higher risk involved when you mob train. Things can very easily and very quickly get out of hand if not done correctly. It takes time to mob up a decent size of monsters and then kills them. Given that most monsters spawn instantly, does it really make a difference, if you kill in smaller mobs (say whatever that comes charging at you in your current screen) as oppose to dragging a big mob across five screens and then killing it 2-3 minutes later. Or is it merely an ego thing - look who can get the largest mob?

2. Do you think mob training is fair to others on the map?
We had an event recently on my server, which got me thinking about this a bit deeper. Mob Training was a common occurrence and permitted. Players kill Event Monsters and get some Gift boxes. On the last day of the event, I noticed a single player mob train; dragging about 10+ Event Monsters (50%) with him from one end of the map to the other. And then you see, a whole bunch of other players running around aimlessly looking for the remainder Event Monsters while the other guy prevents the natural spawning of Event Monsters.

I put this post under this section, coz its more about the Playing Style of players rather than about any specific servers.

MOBBING GONE WRONG

AN ALMOST PERFECT MOB TRAINING

P/S: I just wanted to illustrated that killing a few extra monsters is not really a big deal. When I say Mob Training, I meant rounding up excessive monsters; say for example: 50% of entire spawn of map or 30+ monsters. I don't know why I mob train - a bit of peer pressure I guess, (priests on this server are expected to be excellent mobbers) however it does make me question what I am doing. Do I really get faster experience? How does my actions affect others?

I do think that it is unfair, but then again people argue that the world of RO is big and you don't HAVE to train in the same spot as others. Problem comes when that monster/map is "the best" for leveling.

I hate those events where characters with AoE skills get all the kills; me being a full support high priest.

hmmm as a habit, i use to check on the map to see if anyone else was there before mobbing

but i still remeber the days when i had a sin leveling at anolians, i use to mob about 60 or 70 at a time, it was pretty awesome ^^;

but i did have to fly wing a lot when i mobbed that many...

Sarin

speaking of mobbing capabilites...well, it depends on class alot. If you are a sin, there is no limit on how many mobs can you take, as long as there are no demon/insect type mobs. When I play sin, I used to lead hodremlins out of my way and then gather like half of rachel sanctuary spawns.

I understand why some people see that as unfair. Some classes can level up very quickly thanks to it, but there is a higher risk. One lag, one misclick and you're dead. Right, using it at such events to prevent others to enjoy it is totally a foul play, but that should be taken care of by GMs.

Orange

Depends where your mobbing, and server pop.

If its a high pop i wont bother mobbing usually.
And if i can kill the monster FAST i will usually just take what evers on the screen and move on, if its something like niff i will mob a fair few.

Nope, that's just mobbing. Mob training is gathering a mob of aggro monsters and then "dropping" them on other players. One is legit leveling strategy, other is griefing.

Quote2. Do you think mob training is fair to others on the map?

Mobbing is fair because almost all mobs in RO respawn immediately(And if they don't then it doesn't make the map a good mobbing place to begin with). So it doesn't really matter how you kill them.

i should mention, if your alone on the map i use to find it easier to make like a mob of about 30, then ditch it somewhere, then mob the rest of the map, then when im ready to kill the mob i'd collect em all together....

its helpful but only if your alone

Should we be concern of MOBBING or MOB TRAINING?

1. As for dropping aggro monsters on other unsuspecting players. That's plain rude. And a punishable action among many servers.

2. When there is a presence of other players on the map, and you decide to mob: dragging an excessive number of monsters (aggro or otherwise), across the entire map for an extended period of time. Even though, the monsters may have been set to instant spawn, but the fact remains that the monsters are yet to be killed and has been lured into running a marathon. As long as the monsters are not killed, no new monsters will be spawned. And this, will deprive other players on the map an equal opportunity to level, hunt or enjoy the game.

3. Mobbing also creates a extremely dangerous environment, where there's an excessive number of monsters on a single spot or screen. With a single mistake, death is unavoidable. The high concentration of mobs (especially aggros) will be a deathtrap to any unsuspecting player who happen to come across it by accident.

4. Imagine killing 70+ aggro monsters on a popular leveling map in a matter of seconds. 70+ aggro monsters will be instantly spawned. Players across the map may not be able to anticipate and deal with a large spawning of aggro monsters out of nowhere. Example: You can normally handle 2 aggro monsters. Suddenly an additional 10 aggro monsters spawns near you, and you are faced with 12 aggro monsters. /swt

5. What happens when you are alone on a map? Free reign. Just remember to be courteous enough to kill off mobs which  you may have gathered before logging out. (Especially those lurking at portals)

Those are the main reasons why mobbing is kind of unfair. Additionally, sometimes monsters fall behind and attack the nearest player, which could kill other players. This happened to me many times in seals, when I was gathering them for a friend, but I walked too fast and it attacked my friend.

You seem to be on the side of mobbing = unfair.

It's much more effective to mob small groups than one large group so I fail to see why anyone would do that in the first place(Except being a ****).
Unless it has a special purpose, like pulling all Roweens on Atroce map to a corner so you can kill the MvP without any distractions, but MvP maps don't make good leveling spots anyway, for obvious reasons.

You don't "walk into" a mob. If you're mobbing and you encounter a mob you would be thankful your job is easier, and if you're not, you're not running blindly everywhere unless you know you can handle it. It's just a matter of being careful. Not to mention you're probably AGI'd anyway so you can outrun everything.

True, except mobs spawning near you is more often than not a good thing. Standing still and just killing mobs coming at you one after another is a luxury.
Sometimes it's irritating to have something spawn on top of me, yes, but it rarely happens I die to it; it's just that you need to run and pull something out again, which takes time.

And if it's trouble...
a) Run away(Preferably towards a map exit)
b) Pot
c) Log out

no fly wings?

usually i find that when someone kills a huge mob, they don't all spawn at once even though their suppose to have instant respawn times, theres usually a delay large enough for me not to get swarmed by new spawning mobs
