au contraire, IMHO you should view the problem as a simple algorithm.
1. The most limiting factor is: resource!
how much money have you got?
how much time have you got?
can you get the proper upgraded gear? (IMHO minimal +7 for lvl 3 and 4 weaps, +8 for lvl 2 and +10 for lvl 1)
2. Which monsters/ppl/whatever are you going to fight?
race? element? size?
3. what kind of skills/attacks are you using?
does it do more than xx damage to justify making a specified gear?
4. is it worth your time and money to make specified gears?
will that extra damage % really make it worth it to make specified gears?
how many kinds of mobs can you hit with it?
use RMS search function to see this...
let me elaborate: (example, basic functions, no reductions yet)
infiltrator does 150% damage to demi-humans
hydra gives +20% damage to demi-humans
skel worker gives +5 ATK and +15% damage to medium-sized enemies
while having boned infil does seem to give 178% while bloody infil gives 170% (see calculations on first page), having skel worker limits you to medium-sized monsters meaning you will not gain that bonus when going against babies(small) or peco riders (large)...
and while it does seem to give more, but IMHO 8% is not worth it due to the size restrictions...
Say with infil you do 4K damage SB (easy to achieve without soul-link),
with boned infil you do about 4640
while with hydra you do 4520
that is only about 140 damage difference.
If your opponent has thara and other pvp-def gears, the difference will diminish even more...
you might call me as being too frugal, but IMHO pure sets are the way to go because then you won't be limiting your options and you won't take up too much storage space for specified equips...
