"Is technology ruining our children"?

http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article3805196.ece

Somewhat interesting article I found =x, I won't put my opinion on here so as to not ruin yours.

Oh, note to the mods on RMS, I put this topic here instead of 'General Chit Chat' as I think it has relevence to some of the RO players around on official servers and private servers alike. Move it if I made in error in my judgment.

God I f*** hate modern journalism. That was three paragraphs of info, nine about that woman I couldn't give two s*** about, and just then they get to the goddamn point.

And it's just another "games are bad, mmmkay" rant badly disguised as science. So I won't even bother.

Agreed, this is bull.

Teenagers still go to school and interact with others, they know full well what's real and isnt.

If anything, computers make people less active in terms of sport, it's gonna affect their health, but the brain's fine. Other studies show that certain videogame sactually increase brain activity and awareness, because they make you react fast, as opposed to just watching tv like a freaking zombie!

I was hoping this wouldn't lead to the video game zeal, I was more discussing the aspect of how certain RO players socialize. So, is it to say the younger RO players act perfectly normal playing an MMO at such a young age, compared to others that have never been exposed? And yes TV never did any better.
The way how blatantly black & white they are, and when they disagree on something, lord forbid; they will throw a tantrum on about it. Go to any server with a unfriendly population and try to socialize there, and tell me it's not a problem at all. Oh well, the average age group are in their adolescent/teens after all, guess I'd be expecting too much.
I do agree though that in the article I didn't agree how she was saying "all technology is bad", because we obviously know here, that's not true.
Feel free to make this a full blown controversy about "They're saying video games are bad! f*** them!", RMS forums seem to be good at starting full blown controversies anyway. Oh well.

It's true the internet has huge amounts of information, just so many don't seem to care...

It's not like she's gonna read it, who cares if we give our opinion XD

I didn't send her any hatemail over it, but yeah I think what she said is mostly bull and that she is passing an uninformed jugement.

Sad, thought I could have a decent discussion and points about it, instead I have these children throwing a tantrum over this just because it's saying "technology is bad", a case of tl;dr I suppose.
Like I said I didn't agree how she was completly negative about technology, JJJ already pointed out in short the positive side of it. There's always a positive and negative side to everything I was more hoping to discuss mannerisms and creativity among RO players, but I think my point of this topic made was already lost.

It's not like she's gonna read it, who cares if we give our opinion XD

I'd say something on that mindset, but I know you still need time to develop your mind to not be so closeminded and "Black & White" thinking.

How sad...from what I've seen from other posts you've made, this was a suprise. You sound no better than Jack Thompson, just to the other extreme.

I did not intend this to be about video games being BAD, otherwise I'd post that BS that is plagued around news today.
Guess I'm expecting to much, obviously the connection to RO and it's players with this article was lost. I think I'll spend more time among talking to real people than children throwing immature and pointless opinions that just sound like the same damn thing over and over.

And maybe you need to learn that being condescending is not a solution and that just because it is more "subtle" doesn't make it any different from flaming.

i gave up, that article is way to long ...

Well i don't have a computer on my desk until I am in university.  I notice going on the net could use a lot of time and it's addictive.  So I wonder, teens these days with internet access 24/7 .. how can they manage their time and not waste it on browsing and gaming online.  Shouldn't they do badly at school if they have so much distraction?

I will admit I was being, or sounding off, as condescending. But I do not regret what I said.

Yes, otherwise if there wasn't it'd be perfection silly. You better damn well not put that delicious cake to waste.

Perfection? Or hell.
How hard is it? Let's see, you have no arms, no legs, you're blind, deaf and mute. Find me a good side to that.

Your "Everything has good and bad side" just as childish as "Black & White" you're hatin'.

lets see you won't have to do anything on your own, lots of people will take care of you, all you basically have to do is lay around and do nothing. and thats all i could think of XD

but seriously dude hes right theres a good and bad side to EVERYTHING
