skill point limitations for combo monks/champs is not so much an issue imho;
1. you only need to max the last combo skill you will use most -> as it is easy to see how big a diminishing return you get for getting more levels on your combo skills... jeez even TKs get SP discount for every level of their kicks...
2. stat points limitation (paired with consumables availability) make designing (and playing) a proper combo monk/champ somewhat more challenging
3. TSS is crap for a combo monk. A proper combo build out DPS-es TSS any day. What you need to complement your combo monk is INVESTIGATE. Why? because you get the best of both worlds. TSS and combos both deal with low def enemies, investigate works with high def enemies. TSS takes a long time to cast, combo deals damage somewhat faster and cheaper (SP-wise)...
IMHO combo monks are the hardest class to design properly (stat-wise) because they are mediocre (or even bad) in aspd/DPS, hp modifier, sp modifier, skill SP costs, and flee...
you don't get so much HP for every vit you put in, same goes for SP and int... yet you need a bit of both because your HP sucks, you can't rely so much on flee compared to thieves, you need SP because of the SP costs and your SP modifier sucks... oh and getting INT helps your heal...
then you need agi, but not so much because you have to invest on other stats. And getting very high agi is (at least imho) a poor idea because other melee classes can easily out-aspd and out-DPS you...
you need dex, not for TSS, but for HIT, aspd (somewhat), and to cast investigate and spirit spheres as well as all the buffs you need to keep up anddd SPIRIT ABSORPTION!!!!
in the end, be it TSS, or Asura, or combo, or whatever, monks are not really meant to party. Sure they fill a niche on mvp/high end runs, but they are easily replaceable for less consumable-intensive classes...
and really the thing about combo monks is: FUN!
the only class/specific build (and a very limited/exclusive/painful one to get) that can beat/compare with the fun of a combo monk is a kick-chaining TK ranker... but even then as a monk you can last longer in high def places than a TK ranker making you a jack of all trades, all-roaming solo character...
